  1. Ok another check in from southeast CT, got into bass and kayak fishing last year and I was quickly addicted to both. I'm a catch and release kinda guy because nobody but me likes to eat fish in my family. I average at least one outing a week and have been trying different lakes/ponds. So far this year I've been to Glasgo Pond, Mansfield Hollow Pond and Green Fall Pond(yesterday). The biggest I've gotten so far were a couple of 2 pound bass, a medium sized chain pickerel and a nice sized calico in Glasgo.....but as long as I'm getting fish in the yak I'm a happy camper.
  2. Got a tip that Green Fall Pond was a "well kept secret" and had some good sized bass in it so I decided to try it out yesterday. It's car top only so no motor craft which was nice (I'm a fishyaker) and had a good launch. Lot's of mosquito's so have some bug spray handy. The wind really picked up and made fishing extremely difficult, I'm fairly sore today from fighting it and I even lost my anchor, if you don't have a float on the end of your anchor line I highly recommend getting it. Only caught 3 fish, a small bass, a little sunfish and then the nice one pictured....another 2 pounder(ish). There's a lot of bank access and came across several folks fishing with hook and bobber and they said they were catching trout. I'll give it another try when it warms up a little more.....and isn't windy!! Next stop: Williams Pond.
  3. He was 2 pounds, not a record breaker but was happy to get him.....and then release him so he can get bigger.
  4. Think so Bill, water is still pretty cold, I paddled and fished up the Fenton River and didn't get a single hit. I did get a little sunburned so hopefully we'll get enough sunny days to warm the lakes up soon. But even though they weren't very big I was putting fish in the yak and it beat being at work. There were several little coves on the east side of the lake where I could see the small bass and sunfish.....I shoulda rigged up my light rig and played with them.
  5. Thanks Brian....had a fairly good day on the water today, caught 23 all together. 9 sunfish, a tiny perch and 13 bass, all but one were little, between 6 and 10 inches but I did get a nice 2 pounder toward the end of the day. Was a nice day, wind came up toward the end and made paddling back to the landing a bit of a chore but I managed. Water is still cold and the big 'uns ain't too active think, I saw one guy fishing off a bridge catch a really nice one, possibly a 5 pounder or better and two guys in a bass boat only got 3 keepers around 1 1/4 pounds or so. Definitely going back there again!! How'd you do?
  6. Recommend taking a look at the Predator MX (that's what I have) or maybe even the FeelFree Lure 11.5, it's $100 cheaper than the P-MX and a little wider too. You could also take a look at the Jackson Big Rig, it's made for big guys. But like Darren said, the best thing you can do is demo the yak/s you're interested in, also try a few different paddle lengths to make sure you get the right one for you. There's lots of good kayaks out there, the best one is the one that's best for YOU. I did a lot of research before choosing the P-MX, I took it out on it's maiden voyage two weeks ago and I know I made the right choice. So good luck and let us know what you decide on.
  7. He fella's, just joined the site and fairly new to bass fishing. It has been one helluva long winter hasn't it? I went out on Glasgow Pond weekend before last, caught a sunfish, two small bass and a crappie, got 3 ot them on a jointed minnow crank and one on a spinner jig.. Really wasn't expecting to catch much, just wanted to get my new fishyak out on the water and test it out so getting 4 in the yak was a nice bonus. Going out to Mansfield Hollow tomorrow, I'll report back in on how I do.
