  1. It was pretty intense. I spotted him coming up to the top of the water about 30ft from the boat he'd come up and then nose dive sticking his tail fin up out of the water then go straight down. Done that two or the times so I threw in a giant trouble hook and next time he come up I casted over his back ran it to him and gave as big yank set the hook and it was on!!! Was tough to get in the boat he wouldn't fit in net very well and my uncle couldn't get him in by himself. Took a couple pics and set him free. Swam off in good health. Seen him as week later in same area doing the exact same thing? Only carp I've ever seen do that.
  2. I know that feeling! Drug in this big boy out of our local reservoir last year.
  3. No I meant spinnerbaits. I haven't had much luck on a mepps this year. I do fish them a little.
  4. I'm in North mo. Been slaying them in the flats on buzz baits and spinners everywhere else. Thats about all I'm getting bit on.
  5. No those all come from local watersheds. Hazel Creek is a nice lake with some nice bass though. I prefer Forest Lake at Kirksville over Hazel Creek
  6. I would go with 5.5lbs. Very long fish. I've caught a few 8lbers I don't think we're any longer than that fish. To bad she didn't have some girth.
  7. Mozingo is a great Lake. I'm suprised your not having luck there yet. I'm in Milan over by Kirksville Mo
  8. Caught them all on buzzbait and spinnerbait
  9. Fishing is really starting to get get good as the water temps rise the bass are getting easier to locate and the bite is on. I take a lot of pics. Caught a lot of bass the last week or so and caught a lot of big bass. Here's a few pics of some of the weeks catches.
  10. 6.25lbs your holding it in front of you which will make it apart longer than it is.
  11. I don't keep track but Is guess in the 300 range. Better than my own catch was my ten year old catching his personal best this weekend. The one in the pic
  12. White followed closely by chartreuse
  13. Do you all use photobucket as your source for uploading pics here?
  14. I've been fishing since I was old enough to walk. If your just getting started you need 3 lures imo and I tell everyone starting out the same thing. Master these 3 and then start moving on to more tackle. The 3 lures to start with are... 1.Your good old basic plastic worm. I prefer a berkley 7inch power bait in grape-purple. To me the purple worm is consistently the best color but get several colors just giving you my personal preference. 2.Spinnerbait...Get several colors. To me a white 1/4 oz tandem blade booyah is my personal favorite with one willow and one colorado. 3. Buzzbait....just like the spinner get several colors. Lol I sound like a booyah rep but I do prefer their buzz baits as noise and water disruption is at a premium with buzzbait fishing and the clacker on a booyah is a difference make. Contrary to what you will read about buzzbait fishing. It works best at a very stay pace sitting nicely atop the water and running smoothly. I Ive caught tons of big bass on buzzbaits it is the most under utilized lure among fishermen today. A topwater strike is also the most exciting and will keep you coming back for more The last thing I will tell you is the most important thing in fishing and I think many will agree. And that is placement. You've got to put the lure no matter what it is in the right place. I see so many people just cast and cast randomly for hours and rarely catch a thing. Understand whee and what fish like where your at. Find vegetation, brush, underwater structure and put your lure there. Starting off as a newbie to fishing really work on your accuracy is a super important part of being a good fisherman. Pick spots and try and hit them. Take those 3 lures find the right cover and put your lure in the right spot and you WILL catch fish. We over complicate fishing sometimes and we rig up 25 different lures during the course of the day whdn a lot of the time these 3 lures thrown in the right places would hsve produce the bedt over the course of a day. Hope some of this helps you and happy fishing!
  15. 1/2 oz booyah buzzbait.....Simple answer as to why is because it attracts big bass and that is what I'm after! And there's nothing more exciting than a big top water blowup.
  16. Name is Nathan I'm 35yrs old. I've been fishing hard for 25yrs. Funny fact about me is that I hate fish. I've tried to eat it cooked several ways and just can't stand it. I am a member of a local bass club and started tournament fishing a little last season. Not big tourneys just part of the club usually 25 or so boats. Really enjoy that. Hope I can share a few stories and ideas that are worth while.
