  1. The key to moving from one level to the next is the ability to catch more fish! Hope this helps! Haha....Of course that statement is true but what seperates each level is simply knowledge and the ability to adapt to whats in front of you on the fly. It's that simple. I had to edit this to add a couple thoughts. Time on the water does nothing for you if you're not a willing learner. I have a local guy in his mid 60s that lives north of me a few miles. The guy has fished relatively hard as long as I've known him which is a good 30 years. He's got a couple boats all the gear talks fishing around town all day every day. He had heard about all the big fish I was catching and asked if I'd like to join him so I did. Fish here have been pretty lethargic and slow finesse fishing was really the only way to get bit at that time. We got out on the water at 3 I had a texas rig 10in ribbon tail worm, a swim bait, and a creature bait all rigged up. We began fishing. He's throwing a buzz bait and burning it across the water like he's racing. I was dragging my worm on the bottom really slow. 20 minutes in to our day I'd caught 4 good bass and he hadn't got bit yet. We got out over a deep point and I threw my swimbait and was just slow rolling it deep and caught a couple more. After a solid hour of throwing buzz bait over and over again he decided to throw his chatter bait. I'm back to slow rolling my worm BEHIND him and I'm catching several fish. I offered him a worm of the same color from my box, watermelon red flake. He passed said he wasn't a fan of fishing plastics? What? Really? He fished his buzz bait and chatter bait the entire evening. He managed one hook up and lost it 10ft from the boat. I drug in 15 or so really nice healthy 2-4lb bass. Just out of curiousity I asked him what else he liked to fish. His reply was spinnerbaits. I asked so you only fish 3 lures? Yep! My point is if your aren't willing to learn new things and adjust and go outside your comfort zone you'll never take that step from one level to the next. This guy has been fishing several times a week for 40 years! I've been with him a couple more times since then and he's managed to catch a couple fish but I've always been at least 5 to his 1 and I'm just an average fisherman. I'm seriously lacking in deep water skills. You have to be a willing learner.
  2. Dragging worms is effective all year. It's one of those things that's always there to use imo
  3. Huh???? It's the easiest lake to fish I've ever been on. There's loads of brush piles to fish. All easy to locate. You don't have to spend a bunch of time learning the lake. You can see them sticking up. Go to the brush piles fish and have fun. I fish it 6-8 times a year. Catch several fish every time I'm there and have caught a lot of fish over 5lbs out of there. You don't have to be a fishing expert to find fish on paho..... For some reason it didn't show the quote. This was a response to the gentleman who said paho wasn't easy to fish and wasn't a numbers lake.
  4. I couldn't agree more. Regulations are in place but if everyone who was out there took home the limit most lakes couldn't sustain that type of take for more than a couple years. It's the responsible fisherman out there who understand these finer points of fisheries that keep many of these places in good condition. I can't imagine what our local conservation lakes would be like if the guys in our bass club that fish there took a limit every time they were there. It would be brutal on those bodies of water. I understand all the "If you have a license and are following the law". I think the law is hoping there's plenty of ethical guys out there who understand there needs to be catch and release as well. They're counting on that without actually saying it.
  5. Looking for an action videocam to mount on my kayak. Anyone using anything other than gopro? Just wanted to see if there were other good attachable options?
  6. Tactical reasons. I fish solely for the one big bite. Im after big fish. Catching 20 doesn't satisfy me. Very much like trophy whitetail hunting. Getting those big ones is hard to do. Finding them and out smarting them is challenging. That's the part I love. Just the challenge itself. I enjoy catching fish but I'm obsessed with catching big fish.....
  7. Big worms is what I throw 70%of the time. They ate big fish bait for sure. Great fish
  8. If you're looking for numbers the 90 is the way to go. If you're like me and searching for that one big bite the the 130 is a must have. It's not some goofy phrase when people say big baits catch big fish. It's just a fact. I love the whopper plopper.
  9. I don't believe those statistics are flawed. May seem that way to a Florida fisherman. Come north and you'll see the pursuit of a DD bass here is much different than in Florida.
  10. 1993 was the year fishing took on a whole new meaning for me. I had been fishing regularly for a few years already but that year it went from a pretty fun hobby to an obsession. The year itself is an easy one to remember it was the year of the floods here in Missouri I was 14. My dad and I had been fishing 3-4 times a week and had been killing them. The water was up and the fish were moved in to standing grass and weeds where water had never been before. It was about 7 in the evening and I had been throwing one of my two favorite lures the ol buzz bait. I walked my way to the north end of a 7acre private lake to the flats the water was backed up these flats 20ft further than I'd ever seen and there was standing grass. I made a long cast out in the flats with my zebco 33 and just as soon as my buzz bait started chattering BOOM.....Missed him. No doubt in my mind this was a bigger fish than I'd ever previously caught. My heart was racing I was all kinds of excited. I reached back and cast to the same spot just a little longer cast and as I was retrieving through the same hit zone as the previous cast I seen the water swirl and BOOM FISH ON!!!! I hollered to my dad big fish on. My drag was peeling I did everything wrong you can imagine. I was backing up reeling a 100 miles an hour with 10lb test on. My rod looked like it was going to snap in two. A combination of me tugging and the fish changing directions I finally got her peeled out of a patch of grass and had her working my way. I got her to within 4ft of dry ground and she was hung in weeds again and dad walked out picked her up and WOW. I thought I had just caught the new state record bass! According to the scale I missed it by a few lbs lol she weighed in at 6lbs 02oz. That fish still hangs today on my dads wall. That day started an obsession for me. The pursuit of BIG BASS. Now the year is 2016 and I landed a 10.33lb bass this year on.....you guessed it a buzz bait!!!! I've caught the majority of my big bass on buzz baits. I think they're a greatly under utilized lure. They attract big fish and for me that's the end game. Giant fish. Numbers don't mean anything to me. I'm after that one big bite.
  11. Been hitting it pretty hard the last few days. The ol booyah buzz bait had been hooking up the best fish lately. Really caught some nice fish the last few days. Texas rig 10 inch ribbon tail had also been doing the trick.
  12. Been catching some good fish on top water lately
  13. Targeting big bass doesn't mean waiting for hours to get bit. A good ol 10 inch ribbon tail will catch bass all day long 15in and up mostly. I fish for big bass every time out that's it. I'd rather catch one good fish than 20 2lbers
  14. I can't handle behavior like that. I was raised to treat people with respect and be considerate of others. When I'm not treated with respect I can't keep quiet about it. My wife gives me a hard time about it but I told her years ago maybe they'll think about it next time. I've had a few people actually apologize and say they never even considered it bothering me to my reply there's 5 boats on a 500 acre lake there's room for everyone you don't need to cast 30yds from me and some agree and go on. Having said nothing they may have done it 20 more times that summer and probably will be more conscious of it from then on. Jmo
  15. I'd want my guide to fish. Put us on some fish and let's get some in the boat. Who cares as long as your on the water having fun.
  16. That's a great fish. A fish that length he here could weigh 9lbs. She's definitely skinny. Great catch
  17. I absolutely love power pro. Casts like a dream a mishap is easily removed and I've never had s knot come out.
  18. Booyah or terminator
  19. 10 inch ribbon tail worm. Every lure has certain conditions they're effective in. The ribbon tail worm CaN be fished in all conditions. To me it's the most versatile of all lures. On those tough days where fish just aren't active I'll throw out a t-rig worm and feel confident I'll put some fish in the boat. Very simple to learn as well. If your wanting to start catching bigger bass consistently forget the 5 inch stuff. Go big and put bigger bass in your kayak. Go with atleast 10s
  20. 10-15 minutes? That's a long fight.
  21. Cousin landed his personal best.
  22. My wife is a garage sale freak and a totally awesome woman. While at the 100 mile garage sale she bought me 3 new pflueger bait casters. Just wondering if they're junk our decent. I haven't even seen them in person yet just a couple pics she sent me.
