  1. Looking for a new worm rod, wanting one that will be mainly used for weighted wacky worms and weighted texas rigs. In between several options, wanted to get some input beforehand on the best rod for the money. I have heard some good about some, but not all as not everyone I know has fished with them, and not many places around here have a good selection. Going with something around 7ft medium heavy with a fast action. Thanks in advance for any input! Choices: Dobyns Fury @ $110 Falcon Lowrider @ $170 Fitzgerald Stunner @ $170 G Loomis E6X @ $190 Phenix ML @ $175 ALX Ikos @ $150 Halo Daylight II @ $100 Any reel suggestions for this type of setup are welcome too.
  2. I've searched around and really can't find a decent answer. I'm going to be fishing pond banks until mid February. I'm new to jig fishing and want to try it out, I hear it can be pretty productive. Probably no more than 6-8ft of water, mostly shallow when working the banks. The ponds have a bunch of variables, some have patches of brush, wooded cover, some rocky, etc. With so many jigs/trailers out there, can someone just give me a good starting point? I don't have a lot of time to conduct a trial and error, as I'm only off for a few days out of the month due to my job. I will most likely be just pitching into cover and bouncing it off the bottom while retrieving. What is a good all around jig to start with? Any opinions on trailers? Colors? Any other go-to winter lure advice would be appreciate also. Thanks!
  3. Any insight on a Tatula 100, Pinnacle Optimus LTE, or the quantum energy? I'm at work (oilfield) so I'm not able to go to the store to look at them. I want to have a new combo this week for when I go home I'll be ready to go.
  4. Right, but some abu reels are terrible and some are good.
  5. Don't fish much with Duckett's, I saw the reel at a local shop. Anyone have any experience/opinions on them? I have mostly Lew's and Garcia's at the moment. Just want to expand a little.
  6. Yeah I like the concept of the LT better. What colors did you have success on?
  7. Wanted to see if anyone has any experience with Reflexion swimbaits. I follow them on instagram and they seem to be getting pretty popular. I would like to give them a try and I may order some. They are sold by kanan lures, and come in a line through or solid body model, and have some pretty good looking colors/patterns. If I decide to get some, I will follow up on my experience.
  8. Welcome to the forum. I myself would love to get a nice boat soon, currently fishing out of a 16ft war eagle on local lakes. Lot's of great info on here!
  9. Never used any wrap on them, but I'm an avid user of the o-wacky o-rings, they seem to work wonders.
  10. Jerkbait & Stick
  11. what kind of braid? size?
  12. So since I started buying different rods for different techniques, I need some advice on which lines to use. I've always used Trilene Big Game, and it has been a good line, but I believe there is better out there. I recently experimented with Seaguar InvizX and love it, but I spooled the whole reel with it because I didn't know what to fill it with, and spooling the whole real with flouro is too expensive for my taste. So what do you guys suggest? What should I use for topwater/jerkbaits, senkos/t-rigs/jigs, pitching/flipping? What should my fillers and leaders be? I have no experience with leaders, so whats the best knot or way to connect your leaders, best line for a leader? I would like to try braid for a filler or leader, I have never used it, and don't know what to buy. Im not fishing real heavy cover, some grass but not much, more trees than anything, but who knows I may find some good cover to fish, just haven't yet. So any info would be greatly appreciated. Just bought two new Lews Mg's in 7:1 and I have 2 Revo S's in 6:4, and 2 Silver Max's in 6:4 if anyone has suggestions which one to spool or use for which technique.
  13. Yeah, you can get them from basspro, or TW that I've seen. I have not seen them at academy. Just a little black oring that you slip over a senko and slide to the middle then put your hook through it. Just keeps that senko compressed on the hook a little better so you dont loose them so much when you cast, in a perfect world the senko is supposed to slide up the line when you hook a fish. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't haha. But for the price of them, they sure are a cheap insurance and saves you money in the long run.
  14. I've seen a lot of guys catching some pretty nice bass around my area on swimbaits. I don't know what size or type they are using, but I haven't ever had any success on them, and not much experience fishing them. Any suggestions on where to start? I've heard a little about reflexion swimbaits. I don't know whether to use hard body or soft body, size, and what colors/patterns to go with. Any advice is welcomed.
  15. Wacky is one of the styles I fish often. I've caught all of my big fish on them, from ponds to lakes wacky style around my area is one of the more efficient go to techniques. I love it, I actually prefer it over texas rigging senkos. Watermelon Red, Junebug, and Mardi Gras yum dingers, and watermelon or a blue yamamoto are the colors I've had the most success with. Don't know if you've tried the o-rings on them, but they sure lessen the chances of loosing a bait.
