  1. Well if you can deal with the weather changes that range from the -20's (Down to -40's in some spots) in the winter to over 100 in the summer come up to Minnesota. You can find several great lakes to fish on, and a lot of them can be found within the Twin Cities alone. If you want to take a 2-4 hr trip up north you will find great deep cold water lakes for bass, Walleye, northern, and musky. If you want to fish in the winter knock yourself out. Ice fishing can be "Fun" Personally not my idea of fun when you sit on the ice jigging, but hey some others love it, Plus you can include the northern (or southern) part of the state for hunting. Great Deer, and bear hunting. Duck hunting is starting to migrate to the east towards the Dakotas. We also have wolf hunting here as well.
  2. We cant count ponds in Minnesota. I think lakes alone there are over 11k and if you include ponds (I cant remember the acreage required for each) you could add a couple more thousand. We also have lake international lakes, and the Mississippi river. (Some of the best small mouth actions) I just had to list my best. There are so many lakes (2 of which have made it into Bassmaster top 100 lakes (Minnatonka, and Leach I think it was)) I personally can not wait until my trip next year to Florida so I can do some deep water, or hit Okeechobee.
  3. I know we don't want to give up all the information such as your lucky spot, but how about we share this. What is your best lake in your state to pull out those monsters? Maybe a lucky lure combo. My lake Clear lake in Washington County MN Great lake, my brother in-law and myself each pulled in a 6lb in the same pocket (And have consistently pulled in bass over 4lbs) We used a White shad Northland Reed-Runner spinner (With a lone narrow willow blade, not the colorado blade) (Also a great lake for tiger musky) Now what about your best lake in your state?
  4. 6lb 2oz & 21in Large mouth bass. Right after I caught this guy my brother in law pulled in a 6lb 20in in the same pocket.
  5. Yes it was. I got the reel for $30 and thought is was a good deal. The guy said it was his sons reel and he didn't like baitcasters. I checked the reel for any signs of ?... I did check the rotation of the spool and thought it looked good, but forgot to check the drag. Great suggestion and one that I should have thought of before. I am not what you call mechanically inclined and took it apart thinking the schematic on the website should be good enough… Long story and 2 hours later I got it put back together (with the help of taking apart my pro max and taking pictures just in case and comparing the two) I am not too sure what the problem was, but once I loosened the star drag and removed out the washers and click spring something seemed to loosen on it. I did end up taking it all apart and cleaning it out. Nothing else looked out of place or wrong (Such as a broken piece of plastic or a striped gear). Thanks for all the great advice, and I will surely continue to watch the forums.
  6. Thank you all for the reply. I will be looking at it this monring and taking it apart. Yeah I paid $30 on it and considering it is only a $60 reel to send it in alone is another $30. The schematics online look easy enough. I am sure it is an issue (Or hope) that it is dirty, and the other person doesn't take care of his gear. worse case looking online most of the parts in the drage area will only run a couple or dolars at most. So off I go to tare it apart.
  7. So I bought an Abu Garcia Silver Max online the other day. It looked like a great buy, and I am sure it still is, but I think it might have a problem. The drag doesn't seem to want to loosen up to much. What I guess I mean by this is, I have a pro max, and I can loosen the drag to the point where the reel won't spin. This is not the case on the silver max, I loosen it as much as it will go and it still is tight and has a lot of tension in the reel. Suggestions? Maybe a good cleaning? Bearing? I am new to bait caters so any advice will be helpful.
