  1. Leaving early Sunday Morning heading to Rodman for a week! Hoping to catch a Giant! Anybody ever been? Suggestions? Honey Holes? Tight Lines!
  2. I love bed fishing. That is all.
  3. I fish all times of the year, but this by far is my favorite. I don't believe it has much to do with water temp. I have caught some really big bass prespawn and spawn in cool water temps. In my opinion It has to deal with consistent, good weather lots of Sunshine and wind direction. Lots of sunshine over a 3-4 day period can cause fish to move up. The Pre spawn starts in deep water and as soon as weather as consistent I've seen Big Berthas move up. When weather gets bad they go back to deeper water. Sometimes I think if weather is bad for a while they will dump eggs in deeper water. For example, several years ago the weather got really nice right before New Years. My dad and I both caught fish off beds days before New Years (9 and 10lbers). I think the fish can kind of go from prespawn to spawn mode over the coarse of a couple of months depending on weather. And I also believe the fish come in groups. Cause I have that the spawn was over and seen a fish in mid April on bed. In my opinion there is nothing more fun that catching a big pig off the bed. The since this past Saturday has been good here in central MS. My son and I caught 3 nice bass in deeper pre spawn water. 3 fish totaling 13.12. I'm going back Thursday evening the temp will be 71 and wind out of the west. I believe I will see and catch a good bass off the bed then.
  4. I have always had a two man pond hoppin boat that a use occasionally. Once my dad and I went fishing in it. It was a really cool morning during the spring. I would say the water temp was not in the mid 50's yet, and there was a pretty strong wind blowing. My dad gets in the boat just fine. I'm next! I put one foot in and a strong wind swings that back of the boat around. I grab onto the dock, and finally get my other foot in the boat. Now I stretched out about 7 feet from dock too boat. You could have walked across my back (look like a bridge over water) haha. My dad is laughing his butt off. Finally, in a last ditch ever I pull myself all the way back to the dock! He is still laughin, and by this time I am mad but laughin. I am little worn out at this time, so I say what the heck I jumped in! I was pretty cold that day, but hey we put some nice ones in the boat that day. It was worth it! besides freezing my nads off.
  5. Is anyone catching anything in Central, Ms? In my opinion lakes such as: Okhissa, Calling Panther, Jeff Davis, and others are just not producing. We have fish Okhissa and Calling Panther hard this spring and its been awful. And I saw a fish caught at Ohkissa that should have weighed 8-9lbs weight bout 5.5.
  6. 7.3 lbs caught in the back 40 pond
  7. Hart Justice Jig! Its a 1/4 oz Jig. You can swim it, but its more for pitching and flipping. Black/blue with Hart craw chunk! Black/Chart! or Pumpkin! Just find out what color em finned freaks like! And to echo the other post! Do not forget your rattler!!!!
  8. Gotta have Hart!!! I used too fish nothing but Stanley jigs, but this year I have been blown away by a Hart Justice Jig. You can not beat buying a Jig, Chunk, and Rattler for 1.96 from Wal-Mart or Bass Pro. I have caught at least 10 fish between 4-7lbs this spring (terrible spring weather here this year in Mississippi) on this Jig. Black/Blue, Pumpkin, or Black and Chartruse- I've had success on all color combos. Spray this baby with Spike It Garlic! Boom!
  9. Fry New Member 5 posts LocationSoutheast Texas My PB:Between 6-7 lbs Favorite Bass:Largemouth Favorite Lake or River:Lake Fork Posted Yesterday, 12:09 AM My main pond that I fish is actually on a local golf course. The pond is pretty over-fished, so sometimes it takes a good bit of work to get a fish to bite. Today I went out and fished for 3 hours. I caught my first largemouth of the day (~2.5 lbs) about 30 minutes in using a spinnerbait. After that, it seemed that nothing worked. I tried crankbaits, Texas rigs, drop-shots, everything in my tackle bag... nothing. Then I spotted a decent size fish hanging around her bed. Again, I tried to get her to bite using most everything that I had: texas rigged brush hogs, crawfish, jig with a crawfish trailer....nothing. I could see her eyeing the lure, sometimes she would bump it, but she just never wanted it. I even tried different presentations with each one. Sometimes I slowly pulled them across her bed, sometimes I landed them right on it in hopes of getting a reaction strike. Finally, I just gave up on her and went back to fishing the rest of the pond. After more unsuccessful casts, I realized that there was one thing I hadn't tried on that fish... A weightless Senko. Sure enough, first cast she nailed it. Moral of the story? It can take some time to figure out what the fish are actually looking for; especially in an over-fished area. Give everything a try, and make sure you know how to change up presentations of your baits. She actually looks much smaller in the picture due to her being angled slightly away from my phone's camera, but she weighed in at 3 lb 11 oz. Nice buck bass you got there man! I love to catch em off the beds. You do have to pester them a lot. Two baits I have always used for Bedding Bass of all sizes: 1) Black and Blue Jig w/ black blue craw trailer. It does not matter the brand, just make sure it is not a swim jig. I usually get a 1/4 jig. Right now I have been buying a Hart Justice Jig from my local Wal-mart. I love them! Can't beat em. They are $1.96 come with a trailer and a rattler. The black, pumpkin, and chartruse jig is also good from Hart. 2) Havoc Bait Skeet Reese Design Purple Passion I believe is the color scheme. Also spray the bait with Spike it Garlic Oil ( I really believe in this stuff on bedding bass)/ BANG garlic and craw sent is also okay. I have caught more bedding fish off these two baits than any other bait. I normally can catch one in 30min or less wit these two baits. Unless she is a big stubborn pig, I'll sit on her for hours. I've fished some bigger fish for 3-4 hours before they strike. Couple of techniques I use: 1) I always throw past the fish, and try to reel over her back. I will always at least (2) twice just jerk the bait hard over her (almost like a hook set). You will hit the fish with the jig. 2) once I know she is ready; I tighten the line with the lure in bed, and hit the rod right above the reel with bottom of my fist. Some times quick and lightly. Other times hard once waiting about 2 seconds. I have been reading a lot on Senkos on this board. Teach me what you know about them; I have never had any success on them....
  10. Hey yall, I am Matt from Mississippi. I enjoy catching the finned freaks! Love to site fish for the big mammas on the beds. Fishing here in the state lakes of Mississippi (aside from Neshoba Co. Lake) has been rough the last couple of years. However that does not stop me from going. I recently got married to my beautiful wife with 2 kids. Turns out there are three nice ponds on her land. I'm trying to find out information on how to manage these fine waterways . I want to produce trophy bass. I caught this skinny 7lbs bass out of one 2 weeks ago.
