My Walmart owns! All cotton Cordell baits in sale for $1.25 and a variety of YUM plastics on sale for 99 cents a bag! Don't have a ton of different stuff at walmart but the things they have are crazy cheap!
I second the x-rap idea. They are a little pricey but they absolutely slay fish in my area. If they are not in sale I will also buy the rapala husky jerks and they seem to work just as well at a lower price.
I like to keep my kayak in deeper water and that seems to help me not spook fish. The deeper you are the farther away the fish is from you obviously and the less spooked they will get from your movements. I fish very very clear lakes in NC and I have been able to spot bass 8-10 feet deep while I was almost directly overhead of them. Just be sure to keep quiet and cast to shallow water instead of paddling through it. Hope this helped and best of luck yak fishing!
Hey guys,
I was wondering if it is a good idea to have a large (7 foot 6 inch or so) heavy rod rigged with 65 pound braid that is used as a jig rod and a top water frog rod. I am a fisherman on a budget and don't really feel like I can purchase two seperate rods for both tequniques. Please tell me if this is practical or not!
I've never had much success frog fishing but today I tied on a Booyah Pad Crasher on one of my rods and hit a local lake. Within the first few casts I it a huge hit and when I set the hook I thought he was in the bag. After bringing him in 10 more feet I see the bright yellow frog pop right out of it's mouth and float up to the surface. This happened to me two more times and then I decided to switch to the KVD sexy frog and the same thing happened! Any tips or advice to land these fish?
I also am a fan of xcalibur baits. They are expensive online but at my local Dicks Sporting Goods they are $2.99 apiece! They make a very good square bill and lipless crank. Another brand lure that is high quality and low price is Norman's. Some of their stuff is a little pricey but most of it is very fair and I have had a lot of success with their deep diving cranks.
Good luck and happy crankin!
I was thinking the exact same thing when I went to DSPG the other day! I bought 2 xcalibur XCS 200s and 2 xcalibur xr75 lipless cranks for 2.99 apiece! I looked online and these baits ranged from 5-7 dollars so I thought if was an amazing deal
I carry baitcasters and one spinning reel in my kayak. The spinning reel holds my finese plastics and the baitcasters handle just about everything else. Good luck and happy kayak fishing!
Today I went to Dick's Sporting Goods and I decided to get some baits that are completely new to me and experiment a little this fishing season. The first bait that I've never thrown was a black Booyah 1/2 ounce buzzbait. My question with this is should I fish it with ir without a trailer and what effect will this have on the action. Also, should I put a small grub or a worm or what on it? Another first for me is the prerigged swimbait a made by Storm. The thing is so realistic looking I am dying to try them out. And lastly I picked up several bags of Zoom flukes. I usually just fish jerkbait and square bills so I am trying to expand my horizons. And tips or advice would be much appreciated!
I fished all sorts of structure from sunken trees near the bank to rip rap and a variety of offshore structure. Depth I fished at was between 2 and 40 feet!
Made a trip to lake tillery North Carolina today. It was warm and poured down the entire time. The water temperature was about 49-52 degrees and I threw everything in my tackle box at these fish. Jigs of every size and color, jerkbaits, lipless cranks, square bills, and all sorts of soft plastics. And came up empty handed. It's been a long time since I was completlyskunked so I was wondering if anyone has any tips so I can avoid this in the future?
I'm looking at the Powell Diesel and the lower end Ducketts but I am open to all suggestions! The rod would be a multi-purpose rod use mainly for cranking and spinnerbaits. Any ideas?
Personally I am a hardbaits fisherman and when I carry my confidence box I have a variety of baits. I always carry at least 2-3 different jerkbait a with me. Ralala husky jerks and x-raps are my go to lures. As far as square bills I love the xcalibur XCS series baits. Also, I will have 4-5 jigs in my box. Different sizes, colors, and style jigs are essential. When all else fails I pull out the Strike King spinnerbaits in bluegill or shad patterns and can usually figure out the fish.
Good luck and happy fishing
Hey folks,
I am very curious about everyone's favorite square bill crank, lipless crank, jerkbait, and top water hardbaits. I know different situation call for different lures but what are your all time favorites? Brand, color, size?
Hey folks,
I was kayaking at a local small lake recently and saw a snake slithering on the surface of the water. It looked so perfect swimming on the surface of the water and I was wondering if anyone has ever seen a bass attack a live snake? I was hoping a monster would come and eat that sucker but it never happened.
