  1. I've ordered a couple different combos that I haven't seen anywhere else, but I've pretty much just stuck with combos shown in the pictures. I'm sure I'll branch out soon; but some of their 'stock' jigs look too good for me to change.
  2. For several reasons: 1. His jigs are awesome. Just the quality and the feel of them give me confidence. I'm disappointed that I waited this long to give them a try. 2. His shipping? Crazy fast. I got my order in 2 days flat after I ordered. Why did I wait this long to order from them, again?... 3. For the price that I paid for the jigs, I don't know how anyone could look anywhere else. When it felt the quality, I KNOW that I won't look anywhere else. Again, disappointed that I put off getting these things until now. 4. I'm disappointed because I almost feel like I stole these things from Mike at the price he is selling them. Last but not least: Now I'm constantly on the website looking at what jigs to try next... So many choices.... Oh well, just placed my 2nd order... Beginning of a new problem right here Thanks for great products, Mike! I'm pretty sure I'll be a regular from here on out.
  3. The best thing that you can do for yourself is to not just fill a tackle box and expect to catch something. Start with a few things and learn how to fish them well and then gradually accumulate more.
  4. If I'm out on a boat all day then I wear a baseball cap, buff, long sleeve SPF 40 shirt, long pants and closed toe shoes. And, of course, sunglasses with plenty of UV protection. Sunburns suck, skin cancer sucks worse. I'm fine being a little warm on those hot days, it pays off in the long run.
  5. I have no problems putting plastics from different manufacturers in the same box.
  6. I actually prefer my Bass Pro Shops Pro Qualifier. They both feel nice, and the Lew's is lighter; I just prefer the PQ.
  7. A bass pro Pro Qualifier is a good reel. You can then add an H2O Xpress MH/F rod from academy and be right at your budget.
  8. Add a 10 or 12 lb fluoro leader to your braid and you'll be set. For the spinning combo if you still want to use braid then go with 20 lb and then a 6 lb fluoro leader.
  9. I prefer a reel to have centrifugal brakes. If it also has magnetics then I'll live, but I most likely won't buy another reel that only has magnetic brakes.
  10. Rage Tail Cut-R is my go-to work right now. It doesn't matter what color I am using, the fish like it.
  11. My local pond is pretty heavily pressured, but I generally am always able to catch a couple fish when I'm out there (though I have gone hours without a bite). The best thing that you can do is to keep your presentation different from what the fish are used to seeing. Around me everyone and their mother fishes with wacky-rigged Senkos, jigs, crankbaits, spinnerbaits and hollow body frogs. I generally throw a ribbon tail worm (RT Cut-R), swimming fluke, jerk bait, and a topwater pencil bait. I also do throw hollow body frogs and am successful with them; but that is more because I am willing to cast into the weeds and brush and most others are not.
  12. Plano guide series elite 3600 or 3700 tackle bag. I've got a 3600 model and love it.
  13. I'm waiting on my shipping notice like a kid waits to be allowed to see his Christmas presents! The anticipation is killing me... And I love it
  14. Mike at DVT is where I would send the reels if I were you.
  15. So I managed to break the tip off of my *** Black today and am in need of a new rod for the weekend since the warranty won't be completed quite that quickly. I'm looking for a 7'-7'6" H/F or H/XF for frogging. It would be very nice if I didn't have to order online, but I'll make do with that if I have to. Looking to spend no more than $150, prefer around $125. My local Gander mountain has St. Croix Mojo Bass rods that fit the bill, but they also have some Duckett rods. I have never used a rod with micro guides, and haven't really found them aesthetically pleasing, but if y'all say that they're good then I could give them a go. Any suggestions?
  16. I just bought a Pro Qualifier to see what the fuss was all about and I really like it so far... Enough to recommend it to anyone, and definitely beginners looking to get into the baitcasting game.
  17. You may just be fishing them too fast. If you leave a worm or stickbait of some kind on the bottom and just slowly twitch it back then you will catch a fish at some point. Plastics are generally a bait that is fished much more slowly.
  18. Bama craw and California craw on the way! And since I was making that order I threw a few jigs in there as well to give them a try. I'm excited to say the least!
  19. When I was about 8, I was fishing up in Minnesota for smallmouth with my dad when my rod was almost pulled out of my hand. After about 10 minutes I had a 5 lb Northern in the boat. Somehow those teeth didn't cut through the line.
  20. It had been done... Perhaps even with the same threat title... Ended when the same people kept on asking for the free stuff and trying to get more and more without offering anything in return.
  21. From a current student at a school with a fishing "team", scholarships aren't really a thing for fishing. You pick a school for its academics, and then you pay your semester or yearly dues and fish with the club. Those that go to tournaments will typically have qualifiers. Not everyone gets to fish the qualifier from the boat, so it helps to own a boat or be the lucky one to get drawn as co-angler.
  22. First off, many people use braid on baitcasters without a problem, so your problem was either operator error or using too thin line. What lb test were you using? And secondly, you can use braid on spinning gear. Just as with any other line, tangles are less likely.
  23. I got one that happened just about 3 hours ago... I was at my local pond where my average catch is just a little over a pound. As the sub was going down I was fishing a Rage Tail Toad across the top of the water, along the edge of some vegetation and a bass hit it harder than I have ever seen a topwater strike. I gave it half a second, reeled down and set the hook into what felt like a log. I got the fish in to about 15 yards before she broke the surface again and I could see that she most likely would have been my new PB, she certainly felt like a high 6, and looked much bigger than my current PB (6 lb 2oz). At this point I was stoked, the hook was set in the top of her mouth and I thought it was a sure catch... Until she jumped again and spit the hook right at me. I just sat down after that, trying to figure out how she got off.
  24. Hey guys, starting yesterday my local Academy had Senkos on sale for like $1.50 off per pack. Spro Bronzeye frogs were also on sale. Just a heads up if anyone is interested.
