  1. Come on down to the Texas coast if you want some rough summer fishing. Even at night temperatures can be over 90 degrees with 70% humidity..... Don't get my wrong, fishing is still fun, but it can be a challenge of fortitude.
  2. Rage Tail Craw or Rage Tail Bug. Either will work very well for brush and bottom contact jigs. For swim jigs, RW has it right.... As usual.
  3. Just wait.... You're next order will be placed within 2 weeks and there will be many more jigs in it...
  4. You aren't doing it "wrong". There isn't a wrong way to fish a lure if it gets bites. But yes, sometimes swim it straight back. Or give it a straight retrieve with some rod twitches to give it a more erratic movement - just switch things up. Simply hopping a jig (or a spinnerbait) without using other retrieves is like only getting one mix-in at Marble Slab. Sure, it tastes good with just gummy bears.... But look at what you're missing
  5. While you had a swim jig tied on, you weren't actually using it like a swim jig. A swim jig is designed to be retrieved similar to a spinnerbait-just without the spinners. You were fishing it like a brush jig or something similar hopping it back to the boat. Now, that isn't necessarily a bad thing, it caught you some fish and showed that each type of jig is pretty versatile. But if you want to work a swim jig the way they are designed then you should change up your presentation a little.
  6. I like Bama Craw for brown/orange jigs and Okechobee Craw for black and blue jigs. If I am just T-rigging them then I use Summer Craw. Similar to Dean, after using lots of plastics (but not quite 35 years worth), I am pretty much sold on all the Rage Tail products and they are about the only plastics that you will find in my tackle bag.... Along with some Senkos But, if y'all like the craw then you need to try the new Rage Tail Bug! I went out with some yesterday and pulled in 7 fish (and 1 softshell turtle) in 30 minutes.
  7. Are you sure that it is the mag brake and not the spool tension knob that is keeping the spool from rotating?
  8. If it is any help; I'm pretty sure that Tackle Warehouse has the T3 and T3 Ballistic on pretty good sales right now. http://www.***.com/searchresults.html#T3 Sorry, I can't hyperlink that address from my phone.
  9. A spinnerbait doesn't require quite as hard of a hook set as a T-rig. When fishing a spinnerbait your line will most always be tight when you get a strike so a fairly moderate hookset is all that is needed. Anything harder can cause a larger hole in the lip than you want and the fish will be able to throw it easier. For T-Rigs, you need to reel up the slack in the line and drive the hook through both the plastic lure as well as the bass's lip. Give it a strong hookset. As far as keeping them on the line - just keep it tight as best as you can. The easiest time for the line to go slack and have a fish throw the hook is when it jumps.
  10. If you are using quality plastics, then a car will rarely ever heat to the point that it will melt them. Will it cause colors to bleed, sometimes.
  11. I certainly am missing out.... However, once I'm out of college, have a steady job and the other necessities are taken care of I will have my boat. But this time waiting until then is killing me...
  12. Two words: Drop. Shot.
  13. If I had a boat then I would absolutely love to.
  14. The price certainly keeps me from owning more of them as well as the SKs. At $8-$10 each they are 1.5-2 times more expensive than the Booyahs. And since I don't have to skip much and have a better hookup percentage with the Booyahs, they are what I typically find on the end of my line.
  15. Make sure that the line hasn't dug into itself on the spool for whatever reason.
  16. I went straight to baitcasters from spin casters, and it made a world of difference. Now I also have a spinning setup for lighter stuff( but it mainly gets used as a drop shot rig. I will never again fish without a BC nearby.
  17. I don't think this was a problem with the jig hook. Most likely a problem with the hook set. Is the weed guard too long? Did you trim it any to make it easier to set the hook?
  18. Spinnerbait for me; I fish a lot of very weedy areas so I don't get to use crankbaits as much as I would like to. However, when the water is conducive to exposed treble hooks, I usually grab a crankbait first.
  19. I can skip the Spro Bronzeyes and SK KVD Sexy Frogs pretty well. Booyah Pad Crashers have a much less firm skin that doesn't lend itself to skipping as well.

    Jigs

Siebert jigs are all that I use. I primarily use the Dredge brush jigs and the tournament swim jigs.
  21. I have seen far too many Strike King jigs with blunt tipped hooks right out of the package to ever consider using one. Stick with Siebert Outdoors jigs and you'll be much happier and catch more fish.
  22. They will have it back soon. Which one are you looking for? And do you have any BPS near you?
  23. First off, read those articles that RW posted. I primarily fish soft plastics because my local ponds have too much vegetation for exposed hooks. Pretty much all that I use are SK/Rage Tail. For me, Rage Tail products just catch fish. I have a lot of confidence in them and have pretty much every type of plastic that they sell. My favorite worm to fish is the RT Cut-R. I either T-rig it with a 1/8 oz bullet weight or Rage Rig it. My retrieves vary, depending on what the fish are hitting. What you need to understand is that while the retrieve you are using may sound good to us as people, if the fish don't want it then they just don't want it. Mix up your retrieve, you really can't do anything wrong. Find out what the fish like at any given time by experimenting. For creature baits, I love the new RT Bug. I have only been out to fish with it twice but it has earned it's place. I T-rig it with a 1/8-1/4 oz bullet weight or Rage Rig it and again, I try different retrieves until I find one that the fish are liking.
  24. Hey guys, I'll be heading down to lake Bastrop in a couple of days and was wondering if any of y'all have fished it lately? If so, what was and wasn't working for you? Thanks! P.S. - I did already check the TPWD page, and it made it seem like the bass were eating everything. But if someone here could be a little more specific as to what is working right now that would be awesome.
  25. The Pro Qualifier is definitely worth the additional $20.... One of my favorite reels; even like it more than my Revo STX
