  1. Highly entertaining!
  2. So other than asthetics, there isn't really a point to it? The superglue I used is waterproof.
  3. A few weeks back I bought a "bargin bin" rod that is a 6' 6" Quantum MH Torsion BC rod. As I was taking the plastic off of the handle I tried twisting it and inadvertantly tore the cork handle closer to the bottom of the grip. Being the cheapo that I am, I took the rod to a tourney and fished the day with it. The lower cork grip kept falling off and became a real pain in the butt. Last evening I took the cork off and cleaned the edges up and super glued it back onto the handle. Well that got me to thinking what is the point of the split handle rod grips? Is it done for balance, or sensativity? Please fill me in on the split grip rods.
  4. If I order, how do you know that I am a BR member?
  5. My Dad and brother both have always told me that once I learned to drive a stick, I could drive any vehicle. Meaning trucks, tanks, ATV's,Rv's etc....
  6. Chances are those holes are old spawning beds from fish.
  7. Not sure what that is either but I caught a bass with some of that stuff growing in a hole on it's lip. Maybe Lane can help with this one.
  8. I asked the Toyota Rookie of the Year leader, Derek Remitz this question yesterday during an online chat: Andy in Pennsylvania: I have a tournament coming up this weekend on Lake Erie. What lure and pattern suggestions do you have? Derek Remitz: (2:53 PM ET ) Drop shotting is the way to go at Erie. You need to be good with your electronics to put yourself on bass. Then drop a drop shot worm or goby down to them. Derek Remitz: (2:55 PM ET ) Look for subtle depth changes to hold the bass. Any type of depth change can hold fish. At this time of year, I'd try 27-45 feet deep. If you find the depth changes they're on, you'll do well if you get above them and work them vertically. If the water's rough, you'll have to drift or cast to them. Derek Remitz: (2:56 PM ET ) For my drop shotting on Erie, black and white was a good color combination, but I'm not sure that color matters if you can put the bait in front of the fish.
  9. Caught this during a tournament last month at Edinboro lake in NW Pa. To date (I have a tourney in Erie this weekend) this is the largest smallmouth I have caught. She was 17.25 inches and weighed 2 pounds 8 ounces. She put up a great fight and jumped twice before a jammed my rodtip 4 feet into the water. I was amazed at the fight this little fish put up too. I can't believe she didn't snap my line.
  10. Although I live in Pa and the lakes do freeze over, the rivers don't freeze over until the water temps hit the mid 20's. I like to hit the rivers around here and see what I can get. Usually I don't get a single bite, but I equate it to a non-smoker needing to chew gum due to an oral fixation. Just getting out there and going through the motions helps to make it a little easier. Plus fishing during a snow storm is as great as fishing on a hot beautiful day. Just becareful, falling in extremely cold water can kill. Wearing a lifejacket while winter fishing in a boat is a must, and using the buddy system while walking the shore is a safer way to go.
  11. From what I hear, those tubes will catch em up good in Erie. C-ya at the meeting.
  12. What about a brown? Gets em good on the 3 rivers.
  13. FP, I dropped by Allegheny bait and tackle Sunday and they have some tubes in a small clearence bin that are a good Erie color. They are the same color and size as the BPS #13 tender tubes, but are a little transparent. They had atleast 3 packs and they were selling for $1.99 each. I did not buy them but really wanted to. Let me know if you need some tubes, I have way more than I need.

  15. Don't worry FishingPunk, I really don't get out to Outdoor world ever. But if you are talking about Ultimate outdoors on Rt. 286, unfortunatley I did buy all their #13 tender tubes, and #13 BPS flipping tubes. I told them they were out and that was a week or so ago, so they most likely will have more by the Erie tourney. I also bought the rest of the best colors at Lock 3 B&T too. Sorry. If you can't find what you need though let me know and I'll hook you up. It isn't that you don't have enough, the problem is that I have WAY to much!!!
  16. And the funny part is that all I went in the store for was a pack of jig heads. Walked out with a bunch of other stuff too.
  17. 150 tubes to be exact. 3 different colors too. And I still need a few more colors just to have the bases covered.
  18. Not sure how much of a beginner you are, but "Bass Wisdom" by Homer Circle is a great book for beginners.
  19. Happy Birthday you old fart! ;D
  20. Hey HPBB, look for a call in the next two weeks. I have a good bit of money saved and when I have some time I am heading up to Boaters world to get some essentials. Probably this evening. I still need a charger, a battery for the accs. and the motor, a throwable device, and a hitch for the van. Me and Dad re-covered the boat seats, and I'd like to replace the carpet in the boat too. I also need/want a new winch, a new jack for the trailer and also a spare tire for the trailer. This winter I want to shine the boat up so it looks like Jim F's, almost new again. As well this winter I'd like to get the motor tuned up. I went out this morning and spent $60 bucks on tubes for Erie. Ouch!! Gotta buy in bulk!
  21. A couple other great reads about bass, what they do and why would be "Advanced Bass Fishing" by John Weiss, and "Largemouth Bass" in the In-fisherman line of books. I recommend them both very highly.
  22. I can't catch any decent fish this year for some reason. Tons of dinks and only a few over 2 lbs. Nothing really picture worthy. I need to get my boat on the water finally.
  23. Yes way! I told that fact to a friend years ago and he proved me wrong. It was disturbing as well.
  24. I really didn't want to say anything, but I can't pass this up. I missed the post from which you posted this one. First let me start by saying that you have every right to take the legal fish you catch, poor ethics or not. But........ if everyone at that lake does the same thing as you, you won't have any legal fish to bring home. I have seen it happen at a couple lakes that I fish frequently too. IMO, a true angler KNOWS that LM and SM bass are way to valuable resource to harvest, especially the larger fish that have the genetics necassary to help the fishery thrive in the future. Weither you mount them or eat them. Now a days you can get a replica made with measurements of the fish and have it painted exactly the same with pictures. And if your that desperate for food, I'm sure you have a local grocery store. Give trout fishing a try. They taste much better, and in the long run trout fishing is much cheaper than bass fishing. And you won't ruin the fishery for the rest of us.
  25. A few months back I ordered 500 from vista print. I got the "free" ones, but had to pay for s&h which was only around $5-6 bucks. They came a week later and were good. No errors or mistakes. Even if you don't get the free ones, they have pretty low prices none the less. I don't know if I'd call them reputable, but they did good by me.
