  1. Too much slack is bad, but a slight bow in the line is best. When a fish picks up your bait, you don't want it to feel tension from your line because they are more apt to spit the lure. So a bit of slack is actually benifitial. When you absolutly DO NOT want any slack at all is when your fighting the fish. If you put any slack into your line with a fish on the end, you drastically increase your chances of that fish throwing the bait.
  2. Yesterday at one of my club tournaments, a guy snagged a jig and pig. He brought it to weigh in to show everyone. The trailer was a Zoom chunk that had expanded to abnormal proportions. It was atleast 5 inches long and about 2.5 inches wide. It looked like a joke when I first seen it. Here is my crappy pic of what it looked like. If the original poster is right(which I highly doubt) this may be why.
  3. I fish..... Loyalhanna Crooked creek Edinboro Conneaut Mosquito Berlin All 3 rivers Erie Tionesta Ponds: Northmoreland-upper and lower Twin lakes-upper and lower Deer lakes-all three Keystone state park Lower Burrel park pond New Alexandria resovior And I think that's about it......... My favorite is Edinboro
  4. CC should be a good tournament. Glad to hear you'll be there Jim. The thing that really bit my butt was that due to FN's boat not having much room for all my rods, I ended up leaving 3 in my car for the day. I really could have used those rods too. Oh well, all I can do is live and learn.
  5. I was fishing with a guy who for my cold water style, was going way to fast. I had it explained to me once that just because your older and have a boat doesn't mean you know how to fish. That was the case as far as I could tell. I didn't catch anything but sticks all day long. I didn't even get one single bite. As far as Lisa, all I know is she didn't have a very good day. She didn't catch any keepers either. Oh well, Crooked Creek this weekend. Then the week after that we are fishing Berlin in Ohio.
  6. Only 4 people caught fish, and only one had a limit. Water temp was 30 degrees at launch and rose to 43 by after noon near dam. Lunker for the day was 5 lb 15 oz.
  7. I am absolutly no expert, and have very limited experience with swimbaits but I'll take a stab anyway. The charlies are pretty bad. Save your maney and get a few higher priced better quality SB's. I have around 15 charlies and most of them ran crooked out of the package. Pick your color according to the water color. If the water is clear, throw a SB that is as natural as possible. If it is muddy, throw something dark. If the water is moderatly stained I like a chartruese, or other bright color. The bigger the lure, the bigger the fish......usually. Sometimes you'll get a greedy little dink whos eyes are bigger than he is. Make sure your using the proper gear. You'll need a rod that can throw a lure that weighs 1=4 ounces. You'll need line ranging from 17#-25# and maybe more. Check out this article by fourbiz from the forum. He is a cali-trained swimbaiter. http://www.bassresource.com/fishing/swimbait_gear.html
  8. So pitifully sad....... :'(
  9. You only know that because of Pittsburgh Reeler. And no, it wasn't Loyalhanna where I caught the 3# LM. You still looking for a rider for MR. Bass?
  10. I was out the weekend before last and caught a nice LM around 3# on a bucktail jig. Don't ask me where though, cause I ain't tellin'! Our club has a tournament this Sunday, so I'll post here how we did.
  11. In the tournaments I fish the only things not allowed is live bait and preserved baits like those minnows that come in a bag.
  12. Last year I was night fishing with my Dad at a small pond about 12 miles from my home. It was 9:30 at night and way off in the distance I noticed a small light moving in the sky. I didn't think much about it being we were under the flight path to Pittsburgh internation airport, so a plane wouldn't be out of place. As I was fishing I noticed the light getting closer and closer untill it was directly overhead. The odd thing is that it did make noise, but it sounded like an airplace at a good distance, but the thing was diectly overhead. It was the shape of a triangle and had one light on each tip and one in the middle. Not sure what it was, but it certainly was way to close to be so quiet to be any normal plane.
  13. Rapala fishing on any system is crap. That game is terrible!!!
  14. You guys can bicker all you want. I don't believe that all witnesses would make up stories just to be thought of as crazy. Granted you will have some people that do it just to be on TV. I have seen things in the sky that certainly weren't jet airplanes or swamp gas. What they were I don't have a clue. I can't say they were alien spaceships, but I can say that they were not any normal aircraft that you normally see overhead.
  15. I have to go slightly to the left on this one. I choose topwaters, not because they catch smallies the best, but because when a smallie hits a topwater you'll never forget it. Absolutley amazing!!

  17. The answer to your question would fill a whole book. Basically it depends on the season, water temperatures, water clarity, moon phase, how pressured the waterway is etc........ Check out the articles on the site here. You will find hundreds of great articles with really helpful information. http://www.bassresource.com/fish/bass_fishing_articles.html
  18. Supposedly it all started down in Pittsburgh late at night. Truckers bringing in product to the Strip district wouldn't have time to sit down and eat, nor could they drive and eat with both hands. Primantis came up with the solution to throw it all on the sandwich. The coleslaw isn't messy like your typical coleslaw. It is really tasty too!! It just isn't a Primanti's sandwich without the slaw!! Anyone ever in the area, let me know and I'll treat you to some great food at Primanti's!!!
  19. Reubens smell like feet! Not my idea of fine cuisine. If any of you'ins are ever around Pittsburgh you gotta go to Primanti Brothers. They make many different sandwiches but they put sweet and sour cole slaw and french fries on each sandwich. My favorite is called "The Pitts-burger cheese steak" They use 2 giant slabs of fresh italian bread, a slab of sirloin beef patty, fresh cut fries, sweet and sour cole slaw, fresh tomatoes, and provolone cheese. Man I am starving!!! ;D http://primantibrothers.com/menu/suburban/sandwiches/
  20. Lat year at our club's last tournament I seen a bald eagle fly over the lake and disappear. An hour before that we went into a cove and seen about 8 deer back in there wondering around. It was a very memorable day. Great pics!!
  21. I have that very bag and I like it alot. If you fill it though, beware they get heavy when you are lugging it around a lake. I haven't had anything break on it and I abused it pretty bad last year. For $40, you can't beat it.
  22. I was watching a show the other evening about how your brain gets used to certain things and misses slight details. The show discussed how when you are focused on one thing, many changes can take place around the object your focusing on and your brain just doesn't pick it up. They had a "magician" do a card trick with a deck of red cards. He had a woman pick one card and push it out of the pile and then place it back in. As they are doing the trick, both the magician and the assistant changed into different shirts, the table cloth was changed. and the backdrop was also changed. It has do with the way our brains are wired. When your focused on one thing you simply don't notice other things happening around you.
  23. Is that hail 2-3 inches in diameter, or is that illusion do to the camera angle?
  24. Man I have heard of giving a fish a little peck, but are you slippin that bass the tongue? EWWWWWW!!!!!! ;D
  25. Eagle Claw makes the SG HP hook. I prefer a 2/0-3/0 HP hook when fishing tubes.
