  2. Man if this isn't ever true! I was walking down the isle of a big store and an older 70-90 something man just let one fly. He didn't even bother to look around first or anything. And then there's this guy......
  3. I talked with him a bit last evening and from the sounds of it, he has lots to do. Keep an eye out, you're sure to see him in the future.
  4. I came across this on You tube and thought it was as funny as it is good. Enjoy!!!
  5. 2 hours is a good chunk of area around Pittsburgh. You could make it up to Erie in about that time. Edinboro is just south of Erie, and would be my pick. Crooked creek is also a great lake. Keystone power dam from what I hear has alot of nice bass in it too. In fact, they're all good, you just gotta know where to find the fish at.
  6. That's the smart thing. Bass break the rules too often to stay home because conditions aren't the best per the book. I agree. I was catching them the other day with a low of 40 degrees with a mix of rain and snow.
  7. The Dick's in Monroeville as well as the one on Rt 30, and the one in the Pittsburgh Mills mall all have a decent amount of fishing gear. The only thing I hate about Dick's is that they buy a surplus of fishing lures at the beginning of the year and once it is gone, it's gone. So if you see something good or find something that's works well, buy em up.
  8. Not to mention that for every $300.00 you spend, you get a gift certificate for $10.00. I'm not going to mention how many I have recieved.
  9. I like to T-rig tubes as it has become my go-to presentation when times are tough. I like to use a 2/0 Shaw Grigsby HP hook, and I usually go with the lightest weight I can. More often than not I use a 1/8 oz bullet weight.
  10. Ok, So if bass do not have the ability to be conditioned to certain lures, why is it that no matter what I throw at these 2 BIG bass I see cruising the shallows at a local pond, they don't so much as even look at what I'm throwing? I have tried hoping, dragging, swimming, and deadsticking with tubes, jigs and worms. Both BIG lures and little lures I have thrown swimbaits and nearly hit them in the face. I have tried finesse baits. I have tried crankbaits, and spinnerbaits, and jerkbaits. I have tried both the conventional and unconventional. I have tried getting a reaction strike as well as deadsticking a finesse jig right on past them. All the while experimenting with color and retrieve to no avail. With all options exausted I can only believe these fish to be either totally conditioned to every lure known to man, or they have some menial amount of intelligence. They get pounded every day with all sorts of lures. To the point that they know what to avoid, and only eat real forage. Has anyone on here ever seen those "Hawg tanks" that tour the country and are used to demonstate lures and techniques? The ones I have seen, hold bass that don't eat lures. They just don't. They have been caught so many times that they know what to avoid. If bass can not be conditioned to lures, why do the ones in those tanks have lockjaw non-stop?
  11. Two words "Strike King"
  12. Supposedly its a matter of conditioning, not intelligence. My own experience....... At one of the small lakes I fish occasionally, some yahoos caught a good few bass and stuck them in the outflow of a dam. Right where the water flows down there is a hole about 20 ft x 20 ft x 4 feet deep. I decided to try and catch those bass so they wouldn't die when the water froze during the winter. I caught around 14 LM bass out of the hole and returned them to the lake, but there was a small group, I'm guessing around 5 LM that simply wouldn't take a lure. They would peck at it, but never commit. And I hate to say it, but I got the feeling that they were just a little wee bit "smarter" then the others I had caught. They say animals don't have the ability to think and reason like humans do. But I have seen the rare occasion where an animal seems to think something through before they act. Such as a dog opening the latch on a door to get outside. Or moving a chair over to a counter to get on top to reach some food. Granted genetics do play a role in the matter.....ie "Sharelunker" I do feel that some animals have a small amout of intelligence to work with. Not much though.
  13. Looks cool, not my bag of chips though. Can one of you snake guys post a link to the snake who got stuck on a fence and showed all his nasty gnarly teeth?
  14. During the tournaments I fish it is mandatory to throw atleast 15 bucks to the owner for gas. This year I have been giving more due to the high prices for gas. When I go out as someone's guest I also always throw them money for gas. How much depends on how much I can afford and not be broke untill payday. I have never had a boat owner actually ask for money from me. I always offer it up first. IMO it's appropriate not to ask for money just as much as it is appropriate for the rider to volunteer it. Just like if someone helps you out on the side of the road. It is polite to offer the assistee some $$ for the help, but equally important is to say thankyou and decline the offer.
  15. They sound similar to the Powerbait blade dancer. If so, I haven't given them a fair try. The people who I know who have, didn't like them. ************************************************ I looked for them online and the site comes up with the 404 message. Hopefully someone else knows of the lure you are speaking. Sorry I couldn't help.
  16. Sorry man I just don't know.
  17. I left work early today too, but I sure didn't catch fish those nice. Nice job!!!
  18. Maybe a pic would help. I have never heard of angle jigs. Do you mean Arkie jigs? When you say "angle jig", is that your description or the name?
  19. Since the original question has been answered......HIJACK!!!!!!!sorry speedbead Understanding bass are break oriented, will they swim in amongst the tules? Do they burry back into the stalks? Most of the waters I fish don't contain much if any tules. Just wondering for future reference.
  20. I believe they act similar because both bass and cats are predators. When I go out in the yard to practice pitching, it's only a matter of minutes before my cat shows up and thinks it is time to play.
  21. And to think that I thought you were a great angler....... ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
  22. Thanks for the replies. I will talk to him about it and get his take on the matter first. If he does mind, which I doubt, I'll look for other similar spots and try there.
  23. I am fishing a tournament on April 19th with the club I am in. This Saturday the 12th, I am prefishing with a guy in the club who is kind enough to drag me along. Now I'm not the type of person to get paired with someone who has a 200hp motor and fly to the good spots before my buddy who again, is kind enough to take me prefishing with him and only has a small outboard on his boat. I think it'd be down right ignorant to race to one of the spots he found and try to fish it first. Not to mention I'm sure he'd never take me along again to prefish for a tournament. My question is what is the best way to handle this situation? I think he should get dibs due to him asking me to go with him in his boat, but possibly stay close and wait for him to leave. What should I do?
