  1. Congrats Dad!! Sounds like you got a keeper!!
  2. I fished our final club tournament today 10-26, and finally got my day in the sun. I got first place with 15 pounds 11 ounces!!! I caught all my fish (4 Lm and 1 Sm) on a DD22 in Sexy shad. I also culled 2 LM and caught another keeper that was smaller than my smallest fish in the livewell. All together I caught 7 Lm and 1 Sm, and every one was a keeper!! No dinks for me today!!! I was riding in another members boat and after I got my limit I threw him a similar crank in a different color and he got 3rd Place!!! Today was definatley a great day!!
  3. uh-oh!
  4. If one does get a flu shot is that person guaranteed not to get the flu? Aren't there different strains of the flu virus? So getting a flu shot doesn't necessarily mean you won't get another different strain of the virus? Just a couple things I have always wondered.
  5. What I do to maximize the storage room is I like to put a couple baits in each slot. In both the jig box and the crank box. In the pic below I point to a small spot in the box that is wasted space. It is under the last fold up compartment in the box. I put "extras" in the slot. In the crank box I put jerkbaits and/or a couple topwaters. Anything that is too long to fit into the slots. In the jig box I use the space for larger 1oz jigs and also extra skirts. The spaces between the flip-up slots can also be used for smaller stuff like skirts and I even fit some smaller unskirted jigs that I can throw together as needed. As far as the crank box goes, I do fit 2 cranks in each slot. However you can't fit larger cranks into the slots. No series 5's, no DD-22's, etc.... The biggest crank I can fit into a slot in the 3734 is a Dt-16. Even an Excaliber/Bomber fat free shad 14'-18' doesn't fit, which is almost exactly the same size as the SK series 5 cranks. But anything with a smaller bill will fit 2 per slot.
  6. If these are what your talking about, then yes, I have a couple. I have the 3714 which I use for jigs and the 3734 which I use for cranks. I personally like them. I like them because they help me keep everything organized. The downfall is that they don't hold as much they way they are designed. I especially like them because you can easily see what you have instead of digging through the box hoping to find what you need.
  7. 2 words: That's awsome!
  8. I should know by now.
  9. That was meant as a rhetorical question.
  10. Karma, slashed tires.....what's the difference............
  11. I had an errant cast with a lure I made one day and I had to get it back. My first thought was to come back at night and cut the tree down. That just isn't feasible. A week later I had devised a plan. I took twine or jute whatever you wanna call it. I tied three one ounce bank sinkers to the end. I threw it up over the branch ninja style and pulled the branch to me. I got my lure back. I had tried using heavy line and a heavy jig but the line snapped and I lost the jig too. For some reason when I see a freebie lure when Im fishing, I MUST get it. I have got a ton of lures from errant casters and snags that you wouldn't believe it. If I see a snagged lure in the water I am dead set on getting that lure. Not only is it good casting practice, but sometimes you gather a small crowd.
  12. I should have stated that that isn't me in the pics. He is a member of the bass club I am in. Although I did catch some fish that weekend with a 5" drop shot leech. I was fishing the hook about 14 inches above the weight. But that distance can vary and be critical on whether you get bit or not. I was using the stand out drop shot hook. But just about any hook will work as long as it isn't gigantic. Some do work better than others though. I prefer the stand out hooks best. Check out the articles below for more help. http://www.bassresource.com/fishing/drop_shot_bass_fish.html http://www.bassresource.com/fishing/dropshot_fish.html Once you read the article, scroll down and you'll see a list of related articles for you to gain even more insight.
  13. The 5"leeches work great for drop shot!!! That's 25lbs 10ounces of smallies!!!!!
  14. I struggled for 1.5 years with this one. Fish what you fish best. Tournament time isn't the time to test new lures. Except on occasion when you need to tweak certain things, but that will come in time. Good luck and keep us posted on how you do!
  15. I agree 100% with fishizzle. I also have to add that you are riding in someone elses high priced bass rig. Keep your stuff organized! Don't leave garbage in his boat. When your done with your drink bottle put it into your bag. Keep your gear ready to stow at a moments notice. When the owner is ready to hit a new spot, he'll start strapping down his rods and by the time he has, you should be about ready to go. Basically don't make him wait for you. I find it best to take out the lure I want and then place the box back into my bag. That way you don't create clutter. Don't cast over the center line unless they say it's ok. Kind of like in Ultimate match fishing. Make sure you have rain gear. If you can't get goretex, get something cheap untill you can get goretex. If your riding in a boat with a motor bigger than 150 HP and your wearing plastic raingear, it's gonna rip right off your body. When I fish a tournament here is what I take...... fishing bag with 5-8 boxes 5-9 rods rigged and ready to go. Rig them at the ramp if need be. duffle bag with rain gear, snacks and a sandwich along with a couple drinks or more depending on the temp. I usually buy more snacks than I eat on the water, that way I have some grub for the way home. You might be wise to take a pair of sandles too. You say he like to sit and soak. Make sure you have some finesse lures. Stuff like tubes, worms, etc.... If I was you, I'd start off throwing search baits. Then once the bite slows or you dont catch any, switch to worms, tubes, and similar plastics. Post where you'll be fishing....maybe someone can give you some good lure colors to use.
  16. Most of these would be considered slang rather than actual objects. gumbans - rubber bands pop - soft drink yaint - you are not stillers--steelers redd up - very light cleaning yinz - you ones / all of you dahntahn - downtown hoagie - submarine sandwich Kennywood's Open! - Your fly is unzipped (Kennywood is a local amusement park) Pensivania - Pennsylvania slippy - slippery nebby - overly curious...nosey worsh - wash worsh Rag - wash rag
  17. Check it out!!!
  18. I had something similar happen one morning before work. I was just waking up and switched the morning news on. A bit into the broadcast the reporter came on and said that Iraq had nuclear missles aimed at several major US cities. The reporter acted as though it was very serious and like Iraq may fire them. Usually the news will play 15 or so stories and then they repeat them, only the second time around the missle story wasn't mentioned. It was as though someone called the station and warned them not to repeat that story. It was really odd. I never did hear anything else about it.
  19. Just wondering if anyone plays? What do you think od wow?
  20. Hi folks! I'm back.......... I recently purchased a laptop and a broadband card so I can go online anywhere at anytime. I need the name of some really great free virus protection software. Would I be better off buying it? Thanks ya!
  21. http://www.punisherlures.com/component/page,shop.browse/category_id,38/option,com_virtuemart/itemid,78/ They're good jigs and they don't cost an arm and a leg. RW: For some reason, Craig's link is linking to an electric scooter website.
  22. Keeping in mind what the other posters said, especially about the limber tip being too flimsy to get a good set, I would try 2 things. 1: Go to a bigger hook like 4/0 or even 5/0. 2: I'd switch to floroucarbon line. Mono does stretch a bit especially trying to pull it around things (weeds,pilings,logs,etc..) it hampers the set drastically. Flouro has less streth and is alot more sensative than mono. Braid is good, but you may reduce the number of bites you get depending on the water clairity.
  23. If you watch real close, you can see that marlin pee a little bit when the guy grabs him.
  24. Now that ^ is a nice lookin' smallie!!!! |
  25. How big is this pond? Acre-wise? Look for weedbeds on flats next to deeper water. Also look for ledges and humps and any other sort of structure you can find. This time of year most bass go deep in ponds because the water is cooler and has more oxygen-especially around weeds. Stucture and shade are the keys. I'd try that and then if that doesn't work, try downsizing your offerings. Most ponds I fish have a rock stair step ledge that goes either all the way around or partially around the pond. Chances are, if it is a fairly big pond, say 30+acres, your not fishing where the fish are. This time of year I like to go with purely natural baits. Throw what the fish are eating. If there's alot of blue gill in the pond, your should be throwing blue gill patterned cranks and spinners. If there eating shad, you should be throwing white, or silver lures with black or blue backs. If crayfish are the main forage item in that pond, start throwing tubes and baits that imitate craws, like the paca craw, or YUM craw daddy. And last but not least, don't keep switching lures every 10 casts thinking they don't want what your throwing. This time of year, late afternoon is a tough time to fish. Keep with certain lures aslong as they are appropriate to the area your fishing. ie...don't throw a shallow diving crankbait in 50 feet of water. Your just gonna haul water all day. Good luck and take a camera so you can post pics in the "My outing" section here on the forum. Tight lines!!
