  1. A man who fishes Bay de Noc is a man I can trust! Thanks to both you and bigturtle, 7'3 it is!
  2. Would the x-fast taper make the rod too stiff for weightless/t-rigged senkos?
  3. Hey everybody, It's that rare time of year again where I actually have the opportunity to purchase a new rod to add to my rather limited arsenal. Currently, im looking at picking up a new Fenwick Elite Tech Bass; however, Im not quite sure which length rod to get. Therefore, I have decided to try and pick the all-knowing minds of you members here on Bass Resource. As of now, my current casting arsenal is as follows: -7'mh Quantum Smoke paired with a 7:1:1 Lews -7'1 H Powell Endurance paired with a 8:3:1 Lews -7' M Quantum Smoke paired with a 6:4:1 Diawa -6'6 M Bionic Blade paired with a 6:4:1 Quantum As you can see, I have no real brand loyalty when it comes to my gear. However, for my next rod, I am set on trying out the new Fenwick Elite Tech Bass rods. I am looking to get another versatile rod that will work well for many different presentations and applications. Because of this, I have been looking at the 7'3mh and the 7'mh. In everybody's opinion, do you think there is much of a difference between the two rods? Will one prove to be more versatile than the other? Should I go with the 7'3 simply due to the fact that I don't have a rod in that particular length/action yet? I fish the Great Lakes a ton, so naturally I enjoy throwing spinnerbaits, tubes, jigs, etc. However, I do travel a fair bit and enjoy fishing all different types of bodies of water. So, which particular rod would everyone recommend? **Thank you for reading my long, drawn-out post. TL;DR- Need a new versatile rod: 7'mh or 7'3mh?
  4. Do you find yourself casting the spoon out or fishing it vertically?
  5. Any specific size or brand of spoon for the smallmouth?
  6. -(in continuation of my "Best Colors for tanic water" post)- I have a tournament coming up on a reservoir that is really tanic (tea colored) and deep. This lake has a lot of big smallmouth, but it seems that they become rather hard to find in the summer because they tend to go deep and school up. In this particular body of water, it is illegal to fish a drop shot... Which just so happens to be my "go to" presentation for off-shore fish. I've been brain storming the past couple days in an attempt to come up with other productive techniques that should get these smallies fired up. So far I'm thinking hair jigs, shaky head, deep cranking, and c-rigging. (Any other ideas?) I was wondering if anyone on here has any experience with Carolina rigging, specifically for smallmouth. I was thinking of using simple creature baits, or even tubes! They kill tubes on this lake in the spring. I'm running out of ideas, and I'm trying to get a game plan put together for when I get the chance to pre fish it. Thank you!
  7. Thanks to everybody!
  8. I really appreciate all of the information, guys!
  9. Hello, I have a big tournament coming up on a body of water that I am unfamiliar with and I am trying to out together a little gameplan for the days I get to prefish. From what I've heard, the water is really tanic, or tea colored, has tons of smallies and is really deep. I was wondering which color patterns were more likely to be effective in this color of water. I've always had better luck on darker colors in muddy or stained water, so should I expect the same principles to apply to tanic water color? The lake is an impoundment on a river system that is well-known for it's smallmouth fishing in the spring. Sounds like they become pretty hard to find during the summer months.
  10. When do these samples usually hit the market?
  11. Well, that sucks. October is pretty much the end of the season up here. Oh well. Recently started playing around with Alpha Rods, looks like they will recieve my next purchase.
  12. My guess is that he was referring to the "updated" Diesel line... If so, major disappointment from Powell.
  13. Ok, I'm looking for a bit of input.. I don't have a whole bunch of rods, so sometimes I run into the dilemma of having to choose what to throw on certain rods. This weekend im fishing a lake where I hear that you SHOULD be throwing BIG worms and jigs. I currently own a Powell 714 (7'1 Heavy) and a Quantum Smoke (7' MH). My question is, which rod would you throw the worm on, and which rod would you throw the jig on?
  14. Look, you either like the rod or you don't! There's nothing wrong with people like to use these rods, and there's nothing wrong with those who don't. It's called personal preference. Some people are willing to sacrifice sensitivity in order to have a durable rod, and some people will take sensitivity over everything else. Ugly Stiks are exactly what they market themselves to be: a durable rod for an angler on a budget. However, there is a reason why you don't see any serious tournament anglers using Ugly Stiks. Compared to other brands, even some of the same price range, they aren't very sensitive and they're heavy. Ergonomically, they have minor faults as well. However, there is nothing wrong with that. A lot of people out there could care less about these issues. In conclusion, those of you who use higher end rods need to not look down upon those who like their Ugly Stiks. Conversely, those who use lower end gear don't need to make snide remarks about those who are willing to spend a little extra coin on their gear. It's called personal preference. Respect it.
  15. Yup! Need more info!
  16. No, I mean like a month back.
  17. I saw on here a while back that Powell has a new lineup coming out soon? Does anybody have any type of info on possible price range or anything got is everyone expecting them to be brought out at icast?
  18. I have a tournament tomorrow, and the lake is in rough shape.. This is my first year of seriously fishing bass tournaments and I have no clue what to do. Prefishing stunk! I threw cranks, jigs, spinnerbaits, you name it. There is only about 10" of visibility and the water is hovering around low-mid 60s. Anybody have any recommendations?
  19. He mention price range of these new rods by chance?
  20. I would go as far as to say that it's "girly" that you're worried what you look like while fishing...lol
  21. Oh God, I can see me breaking off the tip already... Haha
  22. Does anybody have any hands on experience with these? I'm debating on what rod I should purchase for my new dropshot setup. I like the design of the Tatula handle, but don't know much about it after that. Doesn't seem to be many reviews online. Was debating between Tatula and Crucial.
  23. Thank you for your reply. I've decided on the 7'2, now just have to find the time to go pick it up!
  24. I guess first I'd need a receipt or some other form of proof.
