  1. To help keep your focus you have to truly believe you are going to get bit on EVERY cast. Even after hours and hours and hundreds of casts with no bites.
  2. Walleyes get my attention from November through March.
  3. Welcome to Bass Resource! My name is also Steve. I also live in the Eastern Panhandle of WV (Falling Waters) and I also fish the Upper Potomac for smallmouth.
  4. Gimme a Strike King Rage Ned Cut R Worm in Moon Juice color.
  5. KVD’s rod and reel sponsor was Quantum, not Okuma. Scott Martin was sponsored by Okuma before he went to FAVORITE.
  6. Yes, there will be a Bass Pro Spring 2024 Master Catalog! My place of work just finished printing it two days ago and we are binding the catalogs now. Not sure when they are due to mail.
  7. WV Resident annual fishing license is valid from 1/1 - 12/31 regardless of date of purchase. Fishing License - $19 Conservation Stamp - $5 Electronic Issuance Fee (only if you purchase online) - $2 Total -$26 If fishing for trout you also need to purchase a trout stamp - $10 TOTAL total - $36
  8. I cope by NOT buying reels that don’t have the anti-reverse switch. 😁😁 I don’t back reel when fighting fish but I still use the switch frequently. Most of the time it’s when there is a weed or something on my bait I want to pick off. I won’t notice it until the bait is a foot from the rod tip so I flip the switch and back reel until I can grab the bait.
  9. My wife and I have a daughter near Phoenix and when we visited last August my SIL and I fished with a guide on Saguaro Lake. We caught a handful of fish but being August the fishing was tough. We are visiting again the last week of February and I was thinking about booking a guide again. Anyone know how the bass fishing will be at the end of February? Would it be worth booking a guided trip?
  10. Welcome to Bass Resource and thank you for Letterkenny.
  11. Congratulations! ”Success is more enjoyable when you have someone to share it with.” - Shoresy
  12. A 3” to 3.5” paddletail on a ball head jig is probably my #1 confidence bait. On the river I fish this catches smallmouth in warmer water and walleyes in colder water. I throw one every time I fish Spring/Summer/Fall/Winter.
  13. You lost me on this one. I can’t imagine lying in my death bed thinking “I wish I wouldn’t have fished so much!”
  14. Sorry Mother Nature, the tag end I’m snipping off hits the ground every time.
  15. @MAN Which Trigon models have you fished with? What do you find awesome about them?
  16. I have 15# braid to 10# FC leader on one of my spinning rods and use uni-to-uni knot. 3 wraps on FC knot and 5-6 wraps for braid knot. Gets the knots about the same size and it doesn’t fail.
  17. I use a small flat diamond file and have had good results with different brands. I’m currently using a 2-sided file from Bass Pro. As for how to sharpen I watched some videos on YouTube, Glenn’s video here on BR, and practiced at home. I snag in rocks constantly in my home river and resharpen a dull hook in less than 15 seconds. It’s well worth learning how to do IMO.
  18. You can put me in the “loosen the drag after every trip” camp.
  19. Impossible for me. I fish a shallow river and the water is rarely deeper than 4 feet. The smallmouth I hook ALWAYS jump because they have nowhere else to go. I’ve used @Team9nine suggestion of pulling the fish over at the beginning of the jump with some success.
  20. The uni-to-uni isn’t the “wrong” choice, it’s a “different” choice. The wrong choice is using a connection knot you can’t tie perfectly EVERY time.
  21. If baseball ceased to exist my life wouldn’t change a bit. SUPERBOWL!!!! ?⬇️ and FTP!!!
  22. Welcome to Bass Resource Kevin. ?⬇️
  23. @Blue Raider Bob Why are you specifically singling out immigrants as the source of the littering? In my experience littering is a human problem, not an immigration problem. YMMV
  24. Welcome to Bass Resource. I was born and raised in WI, now from WV. I fish smallies and walleyes in a river here.
  25. I’m braid + leader guy on a spinning rod so have no opinion on best straight fluoro. But if you are using up your whole leader after re-tying only 3x you might reconsider a couple things: 1) Use a longer leader. 2) Use a different terminal knot that wastes less line. My leaders start at 3 feet long and I won’t tie on a new leader until it gets less than 12”. When I retie with a Trilene knot I only waste about 3 inches of line and it takes a long time to whittle it down.
