  1. He should watch Bass Resource's YouTube channel. I know exactly how you feel when someone doesn't take the initiative to help themselves.
  2. I've also found that wearing the sun gear (long sleeve shirt, buff....) keeps me cooler because the sun isn't on my skin.
  3. I use a sea to summit removable soft roof rack on my 4 door Kia Forte. I ratchet strap my yak to it. Just 2 ratchet straps, that's it. Don't over tighten it though.
  4. You can make anti fog. A little dawn dish soap in water. Spray on your glasses and let it dry. Wipe it off and you're good to go. I had the same problem so I didn't cover my nose. Then I experimented with the solution I mentioned and it works.
  5. Simms UPF 50 long sleeve, buff, gloves and wide brim hat. Sun screen on my nose. Make sure your shirt fits snug around your neck or has a collar or there will be exposed skin on the back of your neck.
  6. I'm glad you asked this question, I wanted to start throwing swim jigs myself
  7. I fish booyah frogs. The paint job on the top doesn't matter. What color is underneath on nearly every frog? White. That's all they see. Booyas are soft enough to get a good hook set and still very durable. I use poppers on windy days, and crashes on calm days.
  8. TIG welding. Very clean (free from spatter), best choice for repairs and I don't have change out spools of wire if I'm going from stainless to mild steel, just grab different rod. I do prefer to sharpen my tungsten on a diamond wheel or belt sander, it's a pain in the butt with a 2" buffer 120 grit pad. (Finish with a 240 if you can).....
  9. I have broken the shroomz hooks off where the keeper is welded on. That's the weak point. The resistance weld that holds the keeper on makes it brittle. (I'm a welder). I've broken them off on snags or after a snag when I'm trying to bend the hook back. I just use ball head jigs now
  10. My wife does not fish, but that is outstanding! ????
  11. Spoons like Johnson minnows with a grub, and spinnerbaits. Pelican has a lot of pike and bass, Dewey does too. Duck is good for bass. Long lake is mostly bass with a few pike. I'm headed up there gathers day weekend
  12. I have Texas rigged them with decent success. I went back to the shroomz jig heads to try to stay true to the "system" but I lost 2 of them and 2 trd's because of snags. Most of the lakes in SE Nebraska are weedy, so using a 1/16 oz bullet weight and a 1/0 ewg hook can work. I've also caught a few on VMC finesse rugby heads in 1/16 oz size.
  13. 17" today one pb&j trd. 15lb braid, no leader. Caught several other small ones.
  14. Cool story. I'm going out tomorrow and the water is in the low 50's here (southeast Nebraska). Had no luck yesterday, so maybe I'll try to go small tomorrow.
  15. Pretty well. the weight of the trd helps. If you go with a lighter plastic like the finesse shad, it's harder to get distance
  16. I use 15lb braid, no leader. I fish stained water though. I just started Texas rigging my ned rig because I fish a lot of weeds. I use a 1/16 oz bullet weight and a 1/0 gamakatsu ewg hook.
  17. I had the same problem because of the weeds in my lakes, and weak hooks on the mushroom heads. Today I tried this out and did very well. It's a 1/16 oz bullet weight and a 1/0 gamakatsu ewg hook. I call it my baby Texas rig
  18. I just bought a pair of glacier gloves and used them for the first time yesterday. I was very pleased. I have burnt my hands on several occasions like you have. I also wear a simms fishing shirt and a buff, started wearing it last year. I'd like to wear a minimal amount of sun block, plus the less sun on your skin, the cooler you stay. It's like fishing in the shade.
  19. I'm a big fan of suffix siege. I use it in 12lb and 17lb, both on baitcasters.
  20. I've never heard of it either, but as far as 15 lb mono on a baitcaster, it will handle well. I just pulled the braid off both my casters and put mono on them (one with 12 and one with 17) suffix siege. I just like the way mono handles on a baitcaster, plus 17lb doesn't have much stretch to it either.
  21. I use a spinning setup because it's more of a finesse technique for me, and I use a 1/8 oz sinker 90% of the time too.
  22. I own 2 tournament trail IM7 casting rods, both MH, one 7' and one 6'6", both great rods. They retail for $60 but got them both on sale at different times. I'd definitely buy another one.
  23. I've got 832 on one of my baitcasters, great stuff
  24. Just put 15# power pro, high vis yellow on my wacky worm / finesse rod (7ft M). I color the last 3 ft of line with a green chisel tip sharpie that I cut a slot in with a razor blade to run the braid through. First time I've used power pro and I like it so far. I like seeing my line too.
  25. I agree with duckmaster, I've had my Lews speed spool LFS for about a month now and I love it! It's light, very smooth and can cast a lure a mile. It will cast a weightless senko quite a ways as well. I also have a Daiwa exceler as well that is pretty solid, I use it for jigs/frogs.
