  1. When the wind blows from the north, do not go forth, when the wind blows from the east, the fish bite the least, when the wind blows from the south, it blows bait into the fishes mouth, when the wind blows from the west, the fish bite the best.
  2. 4/0 or 5/0. I dont personally like the VMC Flippin' hooks(i like all their other hooks though). The bait keeper breaks pretty easily. I do agree that the sizes are wacky, but 4/0 or 5/0 should do you good.
  3. Pad Crashers, Koppers Livetarget and I also like the Evolve Nervous Walker. A lot of people don't like the Nervous Walker though.
  4. There have been so many times when i am fishing in a canoe, and some hothead with a 21 foot bass boat comes blazing past me and almost swamps my canoe. Oh well...
  5. Great jerkbait. Very durable finish. I would recommend it over any other jerkbait.
  6. After an awesome trip I go to bed, get up, go fishing, go to bed, get up, go fishing...
  7. I'm sure they will sell if they work properly.
  8. The gaff sound o.k, but the problem is that in Ontario, gaffs are illegal.
  9. I am drooling looking at that photo...
  10. 6LB Largemouth on 4LB Fireline
  11. I fish alone so a net would not be the easiest thing to use. I am considering a Boga Grip. Any other solutions (landing by hand) would alo be welcome. I have lost quite a few fish because i always seem to hook a muskie when i dont have a leader on and they chew through the braid in no time, so if i dont land them quickly they are gone. Also, i fish from a dock that is about 2 feet of the water. Thanks a bunch
  12. Fish. Fish are what is on my mind.
  13. Yes, that is exactly what i mean. I used to fish with Ugly Stiks, and i went out and got a Legend Tournament. I thought everything i tapped with my jig was a fish. When i finally figured out what a fish felt like, i realized how many bites i was unknowingly getting before.
  14. I see a Calcutta TE DC!!! That is a pretty reel.
  15. Tie on a Rapala Original minnow or Shad rap. Cast it out and reel it back in. Thats all you have to do. Those were the only lures i had for about a year. I caught Largemouth, Smallies, Pike, Muskies, Walleyes, Perch, Crappies, etc on them. Then i found Tackle Warehouse...
  16. I have kind of started seeing a trend. Companies making larger low pros (TranX, Lexa 300 and 400, Komodo 364, among others.). Do you think that these are really just more ergonomic round reels, or do they fall behind in some aspects.
  17. Just wondering, have any of you guys ever had a rod that was too sensitive?
  18. Haha Florida stereotypes, you can blame Scott Martin.
  19. I would go with the 30. I have a 35 size Supreme XT on my Avid 6'6'' Medium, and i kind of wish i had gotten a 30 size, but on the 25 and 30, the handle knob wasn't as nice so i went with the 35 size. I think all the handles on the Presidents are the same though.
  20. I was just thinking, why does nobody use round reels for bass fishing. A lot of muskie and walleye guys use them for casting and trolling, so why not for bass fishing?
  21. I like the Max Tackle Ghost Minnow spinnerbait, and the Terminator T-1 spinnerbait if i need more thump.
  22. I like the 1/2 oz Strike King Hack attack Jig. I'll go up to 3/4 oz if i am fishing in thicker cover.
  23. Depending on how much you want to spend i would check out the St. Croix rods. The Mojo Bass series if you are on a tighter budget, and the Legend Tournaments if you are looking to spend a little more. If you are looking for a mid price range rod, the Avid series has got you covered. For a flipping rod, a 7' to 7'6'' Med Hvy to Heavy rod (depending on how thick the cover you are fishing is) with a moderate-fast to fast action tip should do you good. For your Texas/wacky/Jerbait rod, I am assuming you want a baitcaster, so i would look at a 6'6'' to 7' Medium action rod. If you fish very heavy cover, you could go to a Med Hvy, but it will be harder to throw weightless plastics and smaller T-rigs and Jerkbaits, and a Medium action rod still has plenty of backbone, as long as you dont flip heavy mats with jerkbaits. For reels, a Shimano Curado or Chronarch (CI4+ if you can afford it) would be on the top of my list but the Citica is also a great reel, and a little more affordable, followed by a Daiwa Tatula or Tatula Type R, and a *** ***, C or E. The Revo line up has some great reels in it, and Lews reels (Tournament Pro, BB1, etc.) are great also. For flipping, get a fast gear ratio (6.3:1 or above) and you should be good to go, and for your other rod, a slower gear ratio like a 5.4:1 or a 6.3:1 will do perfectly. For your flipping setup, pair it with heavy fluorocarbon (17-25lb test) if you fish in very clear water, and if you fish in a little bit dirtier water, spool it up with heavy braid (40-65lb test). The line size should depend on how heavy the cover is that you are fishing. If you are fishing in heavier cover, use heavier line, in lighter cover, use lighter line. For flourocarbon, I would recommend Sunline Super FC Sniper, and for braid, I love Sufix 832. For your other rod, I would recommend using either 20lb braid, which can be a pain to use and will dig into your spool on a hookset, or 12-14lb flourocarbon. If you are comfortable using light braid on a baitcaster, go right ahead, but in my experience, you would be better off using flourocarbon. Hope this helps, -OntarioFishingGuy
