  1. I started at around 9. Me and my dad were going to go to the zoo, but it was closed so we went fishing instead. I learned to respect the environment, and all the fish and other life in it. (YES, including the Carp), and it also taught me that you should ALWAYS look behind you before you cast.
  2. Will be going night fishing at a pond tonight, where almost half of the pond is a big scum and lilypad mat. My question is, would it be a good idea to frog/punch the mats, or to try to to find an area where the water isnt matted over and throw a spook or something. There are a LOT of weeds, so any kind of crankbait is ruled out. Any help would be appreciated.
  3. Last weekend I was fishing a public pond, caught nothing, watched some carp jumping, nothing special. Then i got home, and realized that they had found a caiman in a pond connected to the one that I was fishing! Someone had it as a pet and then released it. Scary stuff... Here's the link to the story: http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/caiman-captured-near-toronto-s-high-park-1.2698981
  4. Chigger craws have that too. Keeping them together will severely limit the flapping action that the bait has, but it will keep it more commpact for techniques like flipping. Separating them will give the bait a better flapping action, and is good flr techniques like texas rigging and using as a jig trailer.
  5. Sometimes I'll fish from the morning until around 10:00 PM. The only reason i leave is because in the summer, the mosquitos gather by the thousands around your head.
  6. Think of it as giving the water a gift.
  7. Yeah, it was discontinued. I lost one of the two that I had left to a very large stick. Still trying to find a similar lure.
  8. Rapala jointed countdowns. On Ebay they sell for over 20 bucks a pop, but they are killers for when lake trout are up shallow.
  9. My dad had a muskie remove a hook from his hand. Just ripped it right out.
  10. A 3" Power Minnow on a 1/8th oz jighead.
  11. speedclips are the way to go.
  12. I 'tweak' flies in very small ways, and in low clear water, the trout actually seem to bite more on some modified flies.
  13. Generally, spinnerbait rods will have a softer tip (correct me if i am wrong), for making very accurate casts. Jig rods are a bit stiffer and heavier duty to get fish out of heavier cover. You could fish spinnerbaits on a jig rod, or jigs on a spinnerbait rod, but if you were to do this, you would hook and land more fish by compensating for the action of the rod by tightening or loosening the drag, or by using a line with more or less stretch, depending on what you are using that rod for.
  14. What a GIANT. Too bad we dont have spots up here in Canada.
  15. Yeah, I thought it was the bearing retainer inside the side plate catching on the spool, but actually, the fears are meshing and growling, and the sound makes me sick. Like what you would expect out of a 50$ reel. I have a couple Daiwa spinning reels (Procyon, Ballistic), but the Tatula is a disappointment. Probably a fluke, but I won't be buying any more. It does cast a 1/2 oz lipless crank a mile though.
  16. My Tatula is shot, gears are destroyed. I would go for something else. The new Chronarch CI4 is a beast though!
  17. I fixed it! (It was the bearing retainer in the sideplate catching the side of the spool. I took it out and put it back in and it worked!). Thanks for your help guys!
  18. If you can find a Procyon in your price range, get it. Great spinning reel. I have a 2000 size on an EliteTech River Runner 6'8'' Light rod. One of my favorites for sure.
  19. I don't generally use attractant because the plastics I use (Gulp, Powerbait) already have scent in them. I have tried a couple different scents, but they have not made much of a difference. I just don't have enough confidence in them.
