  1. I use 40lb 832. 65 seems a little heavy, and 80 is just unreal.
  2. Fenwick offers some great rods at a good price point, but doesn't compare to any of St Croix's rods above the premier line.
  3. Use the lures you have the most confidence in, but downsize, use very natural colours, and fish slowly and thoroughly.
  4. Yep, it's a casting reel.
  5. I somehow found a shop near me with these reels brand new in stock for $150. Is it worth it? I plan to be using it for t-rigged plastics, as well as squarebills and lipless cranks. Any input is appreciated.
  6. Yep, my XT has held up to some huge boots.
  7. At Rice the smallies are on rocky shorelines and points, feeding on crawfish. When the winds get up, a Jerkbait works well too.
  8. Owner and Mustad.
  9. I prefer the softer tip of a ML/Fast for dropshotting, paired with a 2000 size spinning reel and 8lb braid, I can feel everything.
  10. 1. 7'3'' to 7'6'' MH/Fast or H/Fast casting rod with a 6 or 7 gear baitcast reel spooled with 30-60lb, braid depending on the cover you fish. 2. 6'6'' to 7' M/Fast casting rod with a 6 gear bait reel spooled with 10lb copolymer or monofilament. 3. 7' to 7'8'' M/Moderate or MH/Moderate (Depending on if you want distance or accuracy) casting rod with a 5 or 6 gear baitcast reel spooled with 12lb fluorocarbon. 4. 6'8'' to 7'6'' M/Fast or MH fast casting rod with a 7 gear baitcast reel spooled with 12-20lb fluorocarbon or 20-40lb braid. 5. 6'6'' to 7' M/Fast or MH/Fast casting rod with a 6 or 7 gear baitcast reel spooled with 10-17lb copolymer, monofilament or fluorocarbon, or 20-40lb braid. 6. 6'6'' ML/Fast or M/Fast with a 2500 size spinning reel spooled with 10lb braid. At that price range, I would be looking at Fenwick rods, but i have heard BPS has some good budget rods also. I like Shimano and Daiwa for reels, but Pfluegers are great reels for the money. For braided line, look at Power Pro and Sufix, for monofilament, Berkley Big Game is really good, and for Fluorocarbon, Sunline and Seaguar are pretty much all I use. Hope this helps!
  11. I think the rod was an old Bass Pro spinning rod, and my first fish came on an Original Floater in silver with a black back.
  12. 80lb 832 is perfect for throwing bucktails and big spinnerbaits.
  13. 1. Dang it, just a rock bass point. For every smallmouth you catch, you get about 50 Rockies. 2. Supposed walleye weedbed. Everyone says it's full of walleye, but i have yet to catch a fish there. 3. Oh look there's a treble hook in that salmon's back pool. I saw a King Salmon swimming out of this pool with about 10 hooks in its back. 4. There goes my phone pool. My dad cast his spinner across a pool, and got snagged on the opposite bank, so he decided to cross the river, and fell in up to his waist.
  14. Gotta love froggin'! if only it worked on Salmon...
  15. I fish medium sized, open rivers, and use an 11'6''.
  16. The ET River Runner is a great rod as is the St Croix trout series. I would assume the panfish series is good as well.
  17. Check out a St Croix Premier and Fenwick HMG.
  18. Flippin' The Bird and Moreau Baits Black Magic are two that I know of.
  19. I fished a craw on a worm rod once.
  20. Use big jerkbaits, such as a 4'' Husky Jerks or X-raps in bright colors, chartreuse spinnerbaits, and spoons. Be sure to use a heavy (15lb or heavier) fluorocarbon or wire leader. Use you heaviest spinning rod with braid, although a baitcaster will work also. USE PLIERS TO REMOVE HOOKS, being attached to a pike is extremely painful (and quite nauseating for those watching). Have fun!
  21. Nice setup, spool with some heavy braid and you should be good to go. Late fall is one of the best times to catch BIG muskie.
  22. Nothing beats fishing with Dad.
  23. Yep, I do it all the time with a thin paddle tail bait, like a Beat Shad or Swing Impact. I also do it to buzzbaits and spinnerbaits.
  24. I had a few problems with the screws that hold the bail in place coming out, but it is a very smooth, strong spinning reel.
  25. The Sheffield and the Aventa are both great reels. Out of curiosity, what length Clarus are you looking at?
