  1. Those look awesome! Love the shallow divers, the one with the light brown back looks great!
  2. 2'' Power Minnows Johnson Splinter Small Countdown Rapalas
  3. What reel are you using?
  4. There is no 'tricking the fish' or sporting aspect to snagging fish. Game fish or not, the fish has no chance when you drag a treble through the water. If they don't eat lures, then don't 'fish' for them.
  5. You may want to look into St. Croix's 'Eyecon' series. I believe they are priced the same as the Powell Inferno, and offer more models. I prefer a shorter rod for vertical jigging, but a long rod for dropshotting. If I had to choose one rod to do both, it would be a 7' ML/F. Also, take a look at a Fenwick, they are great rods too.
  6. Don't drink and drive. Boating is driving. That's all I'm going to say.
  7. Guys were using the Baitball lures on a downrigger for Chinook Salmon here in lake Ontario this past summer/fall. I have a Baitball jerkbait that worked well on smallmouth in the fall as well. Overall though, I think they are a bit gimmicky, and I don't think they offer a practical advantage over other lures other than looks. They do appear to be well built though. The bluegill wakebaits are also really good, and the Perch works great on walleye.
  8. I would look at a Fenwick rod. They have a few budget rods that perform really nicely. Also, check out some of Bass Pro Shops' rods, they have lots of 2pc spinning rods.
  9. Use mono backing on braided line.
  10. If they are overpopulating the lake, find something else to do with them other than wasting them. Just because its legal, doesn't make it right. Bowfin are actually very similar to bass, and I can't understand why they are considered 'trash fish'. If your lake were overpopulated with sturgeon, would you kill and waste them too?
  11. Lucky you! I would love to catch an American Eel one day.
  12. Perch on a 3/4oz salmon spoon, crappie on poppers, I caught a smallie on an 8'' Jake once.
  13. Sounds hard, but i'm sure it wold pay off. One thing though. American Eel, at least in Canada, are extremely rare and listed as 'endagered'. If you do catch one, I would recommend against stocking it in a pond.
  14. Pretty much what he said. Most baits under 1/2 oz and over 1/4 oz should work with this rod.
  15. 100% agree. I take 1-2 bags of plastics, a pack of hooks and weights, a couple of crankbaits and a Leatherman. Being able to walk along the shore of a pond, lake or river without having a tackle bag to deal with is much more enjoyable to me.
  16. You rod can handle lines within the specified rating, and it can handle lures between 1/4 and 3/4oz. When the line and the lure are both in the middle of the rating, you will (theoretically) get the best possible performance from the rod.
  17. Bought a new net, some marabou and hackles, and a couple packs of TroutBeads.
  18. Line Reel Rod I put reel before rod because I fish with a lot of light lines, and a reel with a good drag is important. If you back-reel fish, reel could go last. Line the direct connection to the fish, and is therefore most important. The rod is just the shock absorber and catapult.
  19. Symetre is a nice, but the bail wire comes pretty close to my knuckles when retrieving. If you are willing to spend a bit more, go with the Stradic FJ.
  20. Braid, usually 10lb. I bump up to 15lb with baits over 5/16th oz. Leaders are normally 8 and 10lb fluorocarbon, around 6 feet long.
  21. I really prefer 2pc rods. The portability aspect is worth more than the 'added sensitivity' which is probably such a small difference that it can't be felt. The only reason I even have 1pc rods is that there are not many casting rods made in 2pc.
  22. Hooks bending happens to me too. Using #12 hooks on the Niagara doesn't help either. The 2014 salmon and steelhead runs were a bit off too. But you lucky west coast guys have got HUGE fish. 18lbs is unheard of in Ontario. Although I did see one in particular that must have been pushing 18-20lbs in a small local creek, fish that size are really rare.
  23. 3X Deep Husky Jerks 1X Shadow Rap 2X T-Turn 3 way swivels 1X #5 Blue Fox Vibrax They had the old Crucials for 75$ as well but no 2 piece models so I passed.
  24. Yeah it does suck. But in Ontario we have 2 Bass Pros! And a Cabelas! But eveything is more expensive. To put in in perspective, Chronarch CI4s go for 330 up here, and I have seen shops selling them for 400. Craziness...
