  1. Actually I wasn't prepared for the 37 degree weather and only stayed about 30 min. before my hands went numb...it was 78 yesterday. So, no.
  2. "KVD unicorn tears" hahaha I just told that to my wife
  3. Just Googled it. Looks interesting, don't know much about "hybrid" line. I tried braid for the first time today after this flouro incident and really like it.
  4. I went out and made a few casts this afternoon with braided line for the first time. The increased sensitivity is definitely there but I really liked how it casts...seems to go farther and be more accurate (but that could be my imagination). The "no memory" aspect give it a nice feel too...more controllable I guess, hard to describe if you haven't used it. I used 30# spiderwire ultracast invisibraid with no leader on a baitcaster.
  5. lol thanks, that was after the morning deer hunt
  6. Thanks all! Based on your comments I'll try a different brand in the future. Flouro also seems like a "high maintenance" line which I don't like (line conditioner, weak when dry, etc...). I'm going to explore braid for a while and revisit flouro later.
  7. It was pretty much every cast there for a while in one location. I usually throw spinnerbaits, t-rigs, and jigs which are all pretty weedless. Out of curiosity, how many lipless cranks do you typically lose?
  8. nice fish! Thanks, that clears it up for me.
  9. I haven't really used lipless cranks much so I'm trying to use them more. Tonight it seemed like every cast I was pulling vegetation out of the hooks. Is this normal or should I not be throwing the lure in this area?
  10. Tonight I made a cast and was clearing a backlash when all the sudden I'm holding a broken off piece of line in my hand that had totally separated from the rest of the line in the spool. I retrieved my lure by taking up the line with my hands. This was 17 pound Stren Flourocast and my first spool of flouro...have been using it for a month or two. I heard flouro was brittle but geez. I'm taking this opportunity to try out braid for the first time. Purchased some 30 pound spiderwire ultracast invisibraid. Before this I used mono my whole life and never had this happen...not too excited about continuing with flouro.
  11. great comments guys, that gives me a few ideas...have never heard of suspendots but they look like a cool thing to experiment with!
  12. Tradition says fish deep. However, lots of guys say fish shallow. The great thing about fishing is there are always exceptions to rules and experimentation is key.
  13. Never thought of that, thanks!
  14. It's nice to hear about lures that don't work for folks for a change, rather than the ones that do. Spinnerbaits work really well for me. I would really like my jigs to be productive but have never caught a fish on one.
  15. What are types of lures that you use but have never caught fish? I'm talking broad categories like crankbaits, spinnerbaits, jigs, etc...
  16. See that 8 lb. bass in my picture? I threw her back because I caught her on a small private pond. If I caught her on a big lake I might have mounted her. Google something called "selective harvesting" -- from what I understand it is the same principle as pruning a tree...take the smaller ones so there will be fewer fish with more food available so the ones that are left grow big.
  17. Anyone ever put slip sinkers on hard lures to make them more castable like light spinnerbaits or light crankbaits? This is assuming you don't have a light rod of course.
  18. I gave serious thought to mounting her but since it is a small pond I put her back to make more big fish babies.
  19. I never use a depthfinder. I always look for cover along the banks first, or points, or otherwise something "unusual" about a particular spot.
  20. That's pretty good for only thirty minutes.
  21. Caught this on Nov 22, 2014 standing on a dock on a small pond in Centerville Texas. Used a chartreuse and white 1/2 oz. Booyah spinnerbait with a colorado blade. 3 ft. of clear water during a drizzle.
  22. Caught my personal best this weekend fishing from a dock on a small pond at our deer lease in Centerville, Tx. We didn't have a scale but compared it to pics and videos online and we estimate 7-8 pounds. Caught on a 1/2 oz. Booyah spinnerbait during light rain in about 3 ft of clear water.
  23. Ive heard some guys say they use mono for crankbaits to "give the fish a chance" of getting the bait. Is that what you're getting at?
  24. How were you fishing the spinner and what kind of blades? Slow rolled Colorado?
