I'm currently using a phenix M1 inshore series 7'11 (2-6oz) ... With a Lews BB2 , and with this 7.1.1 I have to reel EXTREMELY SLOW.... But I wanted to be able to pick up line in the event that I need to... Lol... I also throw 6in delta wood bombers with this same set up... I failed to mention, I would like to stick with a low profile reel as well... I like the feel of these better than the round reels... I bought a cardiff 300 a year ago and I just prefer low profile feel... I'm selling that cardiff... Good reel, but not for me... How are the Calcuttas compared to the cardiffs??? (Cadillac to a Buick?) Dee

So I just recently purchased a deps 250 (had a little extra cash so I said what the hell, lol). . .now I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place trying to figure out what set up to buy to throw it on. . .. I am kinda thinking a lexa 300, with #25-30 CXX, rod I'm not sure. . . Im a dedicated swimbait fisherman and I have several 8 hudds, savage gear 8in line thru's , but I want a completely different set JUST FOR the deps. . . What would you guys suggest rod and reel? I'm on the west coast, I primarily fish from the bank ( looking to get a rig soon, but we'll see how that goes) I don't mind spending a few tokens if it's on quality gear. . . Open to all suggestions from my fellow fishermen. Tight lines!

Hey fellas, 'I'm having issues deciding which reel to go with. . . So here's the low down, I'm wanting a reel to primarily throw 6in to 8in swimbaits, however I'd like to be able to throw chatter baits and bladed swim jigs as well ( I kinda feel that my swimbait set up might be overkill for the chatterbait/bladed jig application, meaning I might have to buy a different rod and reel, gosh darn, lol). Im throwing my swimbaits on a Phenix M1 rod (1oz to 6oz) is what it's rated. . . Don't know the exact model off the top of my head. Ive researched and researched and I'm still unsure which reels to go with... I'm kinda leaning toward the Lews BB2, but I know the Calcutta is a beast of a reel and very smooth. I kinda like the feel of the low profile reel better (50/50). I currently have a Cardiff 301A, I like it but looking for something new and smoother. let me know what you guys think?

I agree with all the above. . . I wouldn't rent a yak, I would go out with a guide on either Clear Lake or if you want to stay in the sacramento area hit the delta with a guide. Coach is a great guide, Bobby Barrack is equally as great. If your looking for stripers, I would recommend Barry Carnevaro (spelling might be off, on that last name). . . but any who he has a guide service called "Fish Hookers" this guy is loaded with knowledge of the delta (25+ years) and has a few magnificent vessels. If I were you, I would go to Clear Lake. . . with a guide you will be tired of catching fish (good problem to have). CL is loaded with 5+ LB bass, it's almost unreal. . . You will definitely maximize your chances of catching a DD, (which with a guide you will probably accomplish). Larry Hemphil guides on CL, there are several guides up there. . . Youtube (Paul Bailey, aka Paul "Big Bait" Bailey) I know he is going to start guiding up there. . . He catches quality fish 90% of the time. . . I'm excited for you, you have plenty of options, have fun out here in CA. . . and as usual TIGHT LINES!!!

CLEAR LAKE hands down is the place to go. . . the dirty "D" (california delta) would be my second place to go (hence the 1,000 + miles of water-way). Nevertheless, Clear lake is AMAZING in the quality and quantity of fish you can catch. I have literally caught 50 + bass in a day at clear lake, I never thought I could get tired of reeling in fish. . . clear lake has humbled me. nuff said. . . tight lines to all.
