  1. You should look into a Hybrid, like a Ultimate or Comander. Bass Pro even has a Asend Hybrid now. They are very stable, plenty of room for gear and very comfortable.
  2. If you don't want to install a rack a cheep alternative is to use two pool noodles.
  3. It's all about what works for you, one is not better that the other. There are some very well built canoes out there, you are not going to find any kayaks with scuppers under 40 pounds.
  4. Bending Branches Angler Ace 240cm
  5. You can also put a washer on the back of the rivet to help it hold better. Rivet guns are under $20. You can add a hatch so that you can access those areas. http://www.topkayaker.net/Articles/Customize/KayakHatchDeckPlate.html
  6. Native makes a tandem FX15 and is also selling the older 14.5 again. Both have everything that you need with no mods needed. Jackson also makes a Kilroy in a tandem now.
  7. KJ the Loon 138 was my first yak and I had major sellers remorse. I fished out of it for 12 years, l sold it to buy a SOT. Sold that after 2 years and bought the Ultimate which l love.
  8. Native Ultimate 12 and a 14.5 Started with a SIT 17 years ago the went to a SOT now I have two Hybrids and for me it's the only way to go. To each his own.
  9. I've been fishing out of a kayak since 1998 and love it, it's my preferred way to fish for convenience and access to some great bodies of water often overlooked. Now that kayak fishing is getting more popular ( I used to get a lot of strange looks ) I have a little company on the water. I like the tournaments and group outings in my area also. I still enjoy fishing out of my friends bass boats don't get me wrong.
  10. I fish the KBL tournaments in Illinois and the only restriction is length. Kayaks have to bo at least 10'.
  11. It's simple- long rod, short handle But they are very hard to find.
  12. The OT Loon 138 was my first fishing kayak (Purchased in 1998). I sold it to buy a Ascend FS12T when they first came out, I had serious buyers remorse. I sold that and bought my current Ultimate 12 which I love but the Loon was a great yak.
  13. Looks like an Ultimate "lite". Being an Old Town I'm sure it is a nice paddle.
  14. I'd buy a kayak. But you know the saying "what ever floats your boat"
  15. This is the best of both worlds, paddles like a kayak, open like a canoe, and coverts from tandem to solo in minutes.http://www.nativewatercraft.com/boat.cfm?id=51
  16. If you are looking for light see if you can find a used U12 Tegris, Native doesn't make them any more but they are only 36 pounds.
  17. I have a Ultimate 12, and love it. I've never had a problem with swamping. You have to know you're boats limitations and stay with in them. I've been kayak fishing since 99' and have owned both SINKs and SOTs and the Ulitmate is by far my favorite. The new FX models are set up very well I would defanatly consider them.
  18. For cold water dress for immersion. It could be the difference between life and death.
  19. Yes you need a Chain Sticker, the Chain O Lakes State park ramp is free.
  20. I have a Ultimate 12 and love it. I've never had a problem with swamping it, bit you have to know your kayaks capabilities. The hybrid works for me, I've owned both Sinks and SOTs(I've been kayak fishing since 99). You have to find the kayak that fits your fishing needs.
  21. Check out the Native Ultimate 14 or the new FX15, or the Wilderness Commander both are solid fishing machines
  22. I had the older model of the fs12t, it was a good yak fast and tracked well. The problem I had with it was my dislike for Swamp Butt. The new design looks like they solved that problem with the new seat. They also changed the hull, it looks similar to the hull on the sit in version which would make it better for standing. Everybody that I talked to that has a fs128t refers to it as a tank or battleship.
  23. Fished from a canoe as a kid with my dad and have lots of great memories. I bought my 1st sit in kayak in 1998 (Old Town Loon) to fish out of and have never turned back. I sold it and bought a sit on top and fished out of it for 2 years and loved it until I went to Florida and fished with a guide out of a Native Ultimate and was hooked. Sold my SOT and picked up one. The Hybrid is where it's at. Chad Hover fishes out of a Commander most of the time. Best of both worlds.
  24. Native Ultimate 12
  25. i used to own a Acend FS12T before I bought my Native Ultimate 12, it was a good yak for the money. It looks like they put some thought into the upgrades. it has the same hull as the sit in version (FS12) you could look for reviews of that model for the stablity questions. The FS128T is a BATTLESHIP from what I've heard and seen.
