  1. Yes. When I fish really small streams for trout I often use a Panther Martin size 2 spinner. I will add a small splitshot for a couple reasons. They are killer when fishing these small streams but sometimes the water is moving too fast for me to keep then down in the current. The splitshot helps keep the lure down. I have done this for my son when he is using a inline spinner while fishing for bass. Also, the added weight aids in both casting distance, like you said, and accuracy. An incredibly light lure is hard for me to control. I have not found the weight to hurt the action of an inline spinner.
  2. Pop-R and a Yum Cristie Craw.
  3. I caught my fist LMB on a Baitfish colored Super Fluke.
  4. When I read your title, my first thought was Fluke. I have had great luck with Super Flukes of all colors. In fact last week when the bite was really tough for me, I caught LMB, hybrids and Crappie on a baitfish colored Super Fluke. The three colors I tend toward: White Ice, Baitfish, and Watermelon all seem to work equally well.
  5. I edited my post but would still like to know how/when you guys like to use these.
  6. I just bought a couple of 1/2 oz Strike King Knuckleheads. I have never used a swinging jig head. I've read that some people fish them like a crankbait off the bottom and others use them more like a regular football head jig. When and how do you like to use them? Edit: Upon further research, this is basically a Biffle Head or Seibert Sway Jig.
  7. 2. One M/M spinning and one MH/F casting. With these two I can cover the majority of techniques that I commonly use from shore.
  8. From what I have gathered in here, the hybrids are a schooling fish and prefer a fast moving lure vs a slow finesse lure. Is that correct?
  9. I've had good luck with All Star from Academy. YMMV
  10. I only have one casting set up. It is a 6'6" MH/F rod with a BPS Pro Qualifier reel. I use it for everything but finesse work and heavy duty punching. In short, I think it will do whatever you want it to do.
  11. Yep, you guys are right. They are hybrids. My mistake.
  12. Aaron's Magic
  13. Last year the small private lake I primarily fish was stocked with some striped bass. How is the approach for striped bass different than large mouth bass? Is it different? Edit: I think they are hybrids. Thanks, to those of you who pointed about my mistake.
  14. Aaron's Magic is my favored color as well. It just flat out works.
  15. Haha. No, I guess I just had the length wrong in my head when I typed this up. They are in fact 6".
  16. My favorite fishing methods all involve soft plastics. I love to fish a jig, t-rig worms and creatures and fish a Super Fluke. However, there are times when a Rat-L-Trap or square bill just perform better so no I do not fish them exclusively but my feeling would not be hurt if I had to.
  17. I think it's hard to beat a Rat-L-Trap or a Square Billed crank bait. They aren't necessarily sexy but both are proven winners in my boat.
  18. Oh wow! Here we go. Short strait tailed worm: Roboworm 6 inch Long worm: Zoom Ol' Monster Stick Bait: Yamamoto Senko Craw: Rage Tail Rage Craw Beaver Style: Berkley Havoc Pit Boss Creature Bait: Zoom Baby Brush Hog Soft Jerk Bait: Zoom Super Fluke These are some of my favorites but by no means is this list locked in nor am I opposed to fishing a different brand than what I have listed. For instance, take the Roboworm I have listed as my favorite short strait worm, I often use a Zoom Finesse worm which is a direct competitor. Instead of a Senko, I will often use a Yum Dinger. There are very few soft plastics that have not worked for me at one point or another. If you are new to the world of soft plastics, I recommend you read as much as possible here on Bass Resource and find one or womtechniques you would like to try. Then go buy a couple of packs of plastics and hooks to match, take them to the lake and start experimenting. Have fun and good luck.
  19. Another vote for Blue Craw
  20. Zoom Super Fluke in White Ice or Bait Fish. Both are killer for me.
  21. I T-rig fish small water with a 6'6" MH/F rod.
  22. I am getting a lot of good recommendations. Are there any rods in this price point you would avoid?
  23. Ok. I'll add Fenwick and 13 to my watch list and I'll just keep my eyes open for a good sale. Thanks for the help.
  24. I'm in the market for a new spinning rod. Right now I use a tow piece rod that came in a combo with my Mitchell reel about 4 years ago. I am looking for something that I can use to with a Senko, a drop shot, a fluke and an occasional crank bait. I already own a Baitcasting MH/F setup. I am thinking something along the lines of M/F rod. Does this seem reasonable? Would I be better served with a M/M rod? I was thinking of getting something in the $100 to $130 range like a St. Croix Mojo Bass, Falcon Original or a Duckett Ghost. Any leads or advice would be greatly appreciated.
