  1. Could have just been the one they opened up for me. And yeah, I probably should have opened a few boxes before picking one. I'll just try breaking it in Thursday to see if it helps.
  2. Couldn't resist putting up a picture. Love the feel of the combo. The reel's a bit noisier than the display, but I figure I could add some oil too it. What do you guys recommend doing when you first open the box? Never oiled a reel before.
  3. From the album: The Beginning

My first set-up: Johnny Morris 6'6'' MF with a Daiwa Lexa 2500SH
  4. Huntsman

    The Beginning

    The start of my collection.
  5. Got a 6'6'' carbonlite from bass pro, but the bottom guide is pretty large. Does anyone know of a rod tube that will hold these poles? I'd hate to have it get banged up during transport.
  6. The 2500, the 1500 was nice too, I just liked the extra line capacity of the 2500. It'll take 140 yards of 10lbs if I ever need to step up my line diameter in the future. I was very pleased with bails on the lexa, and they seemed very smooth. Hoping to try it out this weekend (: the supremes were nice too, but they click very loudly when opening and closing the bail. Not the only reason I picked the lexa, but it was a factor.
  7. Went down to bass pro the other day to try a few reels and really liked the lexa. It balanced nicely with the 6'6'' MF carbonlite I decided to get in the end. Got it for around 90 with tax (: Thanks everyone, I'll be sure to post again in the next week or two to let you all know how it's working out.
  8. I ended up going with the 6'6'' Medium the other day paired with a Daiwa Lexa 2500. Thanks everyone!
  9. I think they're pretty light. The signature II series is heavier than the regular carbonlites.
  10. Can get a deal at bps for about 100, that way I can feel the reel before I buy it. The local walmarts don't have em, so I'd have to have it shipped.
  11. Lol, similar situation. Girlfriend wanted to get me a nice reel for my birthday, put it off a couple weeks to pick the right one! (:
  12. Yeah, I understand. I'm either getting the supreme mgx or the lexa depending on how they feel. BPS actually as a rod/reel combo for both of them. So I'll pick whichever feels better.
  13. Going down to bass pro to feel the supreme mgx size 30. http://www.basspro.com/Pflueger-Supreme-MGX-Spinning-Reels/product/10213339/ Can get it for 15% off. Magnesium better than a graphite frame? Also comes with a spare spool. This will be fresh water only.
  14. What quantum models do you have experience with?
  15. I was looking at the 6'8'' MH sig as well, but it has an extra fast tip and I'd prefer a fast tip. So now I'm leaning more towards the carbonlite Medium Fast 6'6'', Just out of preference. Then again, I'm choosing a spinning rod. I decided a medium heavy might be a little stiff to throw some of the lighter worms/lures I just bought. The sig series II has a 7'2'' medium fast, but I'm more comfortable with a rod in the 6'6'' - 6'9'' range. I appreciate the information about the tip guides though, I'll be sure to keep that in mind when making my selection. (:
  16. Hm, how do pflueger reels compare in terms of smoothness/drag to the lexa/stradics? the xt/mg both look nice.
  17. My goodness. I'm never gonna find a reel without negative reviews I suppose, lol. Just gonna have to bite the bullet one of these days and hope I don't have problems. Never really had the opportunity to fish with high quality gear, and honestly never needed it. Still caught fish growing up. Just thought it would be a nice experience.
  18. I was at Sportsman's Warehouse the other day and they were having a sale on the saros FA for 108, but they only had the floor model. Offered to take another 10 off it, but the reel wasn't smooth at all. The floor model for the symetre FL worked much nicer. Too bad those weren't on sale! I'm considering the symetres now, but should I be concerned about a graphite frame spinning reel twisting if I hook a cat/carp? Also, the 2500/3000 sizes are the same weight but the 3000 has 4 lbs more drag. (11 vs. 15) Which size would you suggest?
  19. I'd like to try to use both hard and soft lures with it, as I found a few kicktail shad lures at a yard sale for a buck a piece. But it will be mostly for soft plastics I suppose. I'll be sure to check out the sojourn snook. What range of lures do you normally throw with it? As in type/weight. As for the ugly stik tiger, I know it has more graphite in it than a normal ugly stik, but I'm sure it's still got some bend to it. It's rated as a saltwater rod.
  20. I'd prefer it to be under 100.
  21. I'm not aware of how much they weigh unfortunately. I also haven't been able to lay my hands on one in person. Have you personally used a spinning setup for swim baits? I'll take any rod recommendations I can get. The tiger just seemed like a decent value.
  22. So, I have absolutely no clue how to work a bait caster, and I don't really feel like throwing around the money for a high end reel. Would something like the Tigerlite ugly stik work for throwing smaller swimbaits in the 1-3 oz range? This will be primarily for striper, and the occasional large mouth. What are your thoughts? http://www.basspro.com/Shakespeare-Ugly-Stik-Tiger-Lite-Spinning-Rods/product/71840/
  23. The sig series will be on sale during the classic, and I was wondering if they were worth it over the regular carbonlites. I know they're a little heavier. Can anyone give me a comparison in performance between the two? I know the carbonlites have quite a few breakage reports, but I've found far fewer when looking at the sig II reviews. What are your thoughts?
  24. Yeah, I'll never actually use them for saltwater. I've heard some decent things about the lexa as well, but some said that they were uncomfortable. Like I said I don't really need the best, and if I can save money I will. It seems that the lexa has considerably less drag though, would that be an issue?
  25. Are there any problems with the longevity of this model? I know it only came out a couple of years ago, but should I expect problems? I'm hoping to get at least a few years of peak performance.
