  1. Tim Salmon….wait no, Mike Trout. Actually Mike Carp……nope I’m Kevin Bass.
  2. That first bass I ever caught definitely changed my life in the way that I became a life long bass fisherman.
  3. I try to match them, kinda. I won’t for example use a green pumpkin trailer if im using a green pumpkin jig or spinnerbait. But I will go with a similar color, like a brown or different shade of green. If I’m using a black and blue jig, I will use a trailer that may have some blue or purple flecks. I like the trailers and baits to be slightly different but still fall into the same category as far as “natural” colors, bright colors etc.
  4. Reviving the thread with my best looking pizza yet. Best tasting as well.
  5. As someone who fishes and spends a lot of time in the Adirondack Mountains, I am very familiar with rocky everything. I’ve found that a boulder in otherwise featureless water is usually not enough to attract fish, but boulders that are part of or on structure like a drop off, shoal, island, milfoil bed, and the like can be THE SPOT within a spot. Boulders that are emerging from the water are even better. I love throwing tubes, neds, and other finesse style presentations, as well as poppers around boulders.
  6. This must be what you tell the smallmouth, and they listen. I am probably a 4. My boat is a 2-seat Jon boat, and my electronics are rudimentary 2D sonar. I fish smaller waters, less than 1000 acres typically. I do usually have 10 or more rods in the boat with me, and a 40lb bag of tackle though.
  7. Patio and garden are looking good for a little party next Saturday.
  8. What kind of hooks are you using? A small Aberdeen (long-shank) hook should give you a good hookup ratio on panfish.
  9. A bass is a bass from Canada to Mexico and from Japan to Zimbabwe. Power fishing will definitely work. I’m a fellow northern basser, Upstate NY specifically, and I spent a lot of my fishing hours power fishing. No way of fishing more effective for me than getting some heavy gear, finding some thick milfoil, and ripping spinnerbaits right through it, dropping punch rigs right in it, and frogs over it. When the going gets tough, you will find me throwing a spinnerbait over and over and over again until I might need a Tommy John. It’s as close to a guarantee in bass fishing there is for me.
  10. Casting poppers to clear water smallmouth on mountain lakes at dawn is my favorite way to fish. Honestly, probably my favorite way to be, not just fish.
  11. Top water bite has started! Got the day started at sunrise with a few on weedless frogs and poppers. The day turned into a junk fishing day once the topwater bite died down. Senkos, jigs, and spinnerbaits also took fish. No lunkers today, a couple fatties pushing 3 were the largest of the day.
  12. Welcome, from a fellow NYer. I’m in Saratoga county.
  13. Sometimes during the summer when I’m not worried about water temperature and I’m on a lake I’m very familiar with, I won’t even look at the depth finder.
  14. Like MN Fisher said, you can sell it in the flea market here and it should sell pretty quickly. You do need a certain amount of posts to gain access to the flea market though. If you don’t want to go that route, my suggestion would be EBay.
  15. Litter, pickerel, sustained wind, jet skis, lines at the ramp.
  16. @gimruis “black fly” may be a northeastern colloquialism, but they are very different from horse flies. Horse flies are the big nasty effers, but black flies are tiny and they swarm. When they bite, it leaves a massive welt and an itchy dot in the middle. For about 2 weeks, usually around mid May depending on the severity and duration of winter, the black flies make the north country almost unbearable. After the couple weeks is over you won’t seem them for another year.
  17. When I woke up this morning I was greeted with a bunch of pictures of Aurora borealis all over my town. I was too busy sleeping. Wish I went out and looked.
  18. I’ll trade ya all the black flies we have up here this month for all your horse flies.
  19. Easy. A Siebert brush jig, 1/2oz in “Bama Craw” color.
  20. Lots of willing biters is a good time to work on a technique you aren’t confident in. Build some confidence on easy fish and it will translate.
  21. Got a lot of the seedlings planted in the garden beds as the last frost is hopefully behind us. The green beans are already starting to flower.
  22. @gimruis I agree. I’d rather go the @T-Billy route and head into the woods.
  23. I use mono for all topwaters except frogs. I use straight fluoro on my jerkbait rig and my crank bait rig.
