  1. I appreciate the thoughts. Doing a little research, you guys changed my mind, I am going with the Xplore units. Watched a couple videos, those things look sweet! Thanks.
  2. Hey, thanks for the response. I'm actually not considering FFS. Just not interested at this point. I realize it's a huge advantage, can teach you a lot about fish habits, and make you more successful. It's just a little too much technology at this point. Maybe I'll get off my high horse someday. Specifically, I was looking at the Terrova Quest MSI 90/115. I guess my question more pertains to upgrades in motor technology or wireless connectivity, things like that. I would pair it with a couple Helix series Mega SI units.
  3. I'll be getting a new boat this spring and I am looking to purchase a trolling motor and electronics. Minn Kota currently has some pretty good discounts. My question is, does anyone have any information on new product releases that will be coming out anytime soon? Getting these at a good price is great, but I'd rather wait a few months and get newer technology if it will be available. Thanks.
  4. It will have a clamps so that I can remove it when trailering, but yes, otherwise permanent.
  5. I probably should've prefaced this question with some more information. The intention for two motors isn't for speed, which I already understand will be providing little to no additional speed. My big fishing boat is 22 feet and I have tested the Ulterra and it pushes at 3 mph at 100%. I know the 20ft Jon is a big boat to attempt this with and I would go with a smaller aluminum boat, but I already have this vessel. I need additional thrust to push the weight and mosey along at a reasonable pace and not run the motor at 100% all the time. The amp draw on the batteries will be much lower if I can run both motors at 50 to 75%. It will also be a back up motor in case my bow mount fails. I will try to pick my days wisely, but if it gets windy and wavy, I will also need additional thrust. I already have the 36V lithium's and I've calculated the runtime. I don't plan on going very far in this rig and will have ample energy. Here is a link to the motor I'm considering mounting on the transom. It will be a stationary mount, only providing forward thrust. I just need to know if it's a reasonable purchase and I can run it with minimal accessories. https://lakesidemarineandservice.com/products/minn-kota-saltwater-ulterra-shaft-tube-and-motor-assembly?variant=40129026326594 Thank you, J
  6. I understand I won’t get more speed, just thrust to carry more weight. My issue is the set up does not have a tiller. It is just a motor with a shaft and the wires running out. There is no head or control board.
  7. There is a local “electric only” lake that I am going to start fishing. It’s a wide open reservoir, around 5000k acres. I have a 20ft aluminum jon(my duck hunting boat) I’ll fish out of. I’m going to borrow the 112 Ulterra from my big boat and mount it on the bow of the jon. I want a second motor for extra thrust. Trying to custom build this so I can avoid spending three grand on a new trolling motor. I found Minn Kota replacement motors online. I would like to mount one on the stern as a thruster. I’ll use the Ulterra to steer. I can get a 112 motor with shaft to mount on the transom. For you Minn Kota experts, is this doable? What would I need to get to turn the motor on/off and adjust the speed? There is an option for older models and newer Bluetooth models. Would the older legacy models would be the way to go for simplicity? Side note: to keep it lighter weight I’ll be running lithium batteries.
  8. I just ordered some swing heads for the first time and will be using them next week. I have a few creature style baits selected to try out. The fishery I will be on as a ton of 6 inch bait fish. Seems like an odd application, but I was just curious if anyone has ever run a paddle tail on a swing head. Just thought it might match the hatch and offer a unique presentation.
  9. I appreciate the reply, but I finally found informationon the Minnkota website. This particular remote is not Bluetooth. Per their website: The Legacy and Bluetooth i-Pilot and i-Pilot Link Micro remotes look identical. The best way to tell the difference is to look for the Bluetooth symbol on the remote back above the battery door. The Legacy i-Pilot and i-Pilot Link Micro Remote will not have the Bluetooth symbol.
  10. I’ve always carried this remote as a back up. I recently tried to pair it with my Ulterra IPilot Link Bluetooth trolling motor. I couldn’t get it to pair. Is this an older micro remote that does not have Bluetooth? I can’t find any information identifying which model it is.
  11. Does anybody know if this color was discontinued? Looking to replenish my stock and can’t find it anywhere. I’m assuming this is the case.
  12. I’ve never fished a flutter spoon, for smallmouth or otherwise, but I’m thinking about trying it in a highland reservoir that is heavily populated with Kokanee. I found a few articles detailing guys fishing this way. Just thought I would see if others might share their experience, areas they targeted, and setup they used. I have a 7’1” mh fast with 15 pound fluorocarbon that I was thinking about casting it with. The Kokanee in the reservoir are around 7 inches, so I was going to pick up a handful of spoons about that size or a little bigger. There’s been multiple times running down the reservoir I’ll see Kokanee jumping out of the water. I’ve never considered it before, but I’m guessing that there are possibly bass suspended by the bait balls and are feeding on them. It’s usually in very deep water, pretty far from the bank. And I thought, if nothing else, it’ll just fun to explore a new technique. Thanks
  13. I posted it in another thread that I am going on a long road trip. I have a bow mounted Minnkota Ulterra on a quick release bracket. What is the preferred method to secure it to the boat? I’ve seen a few different brands of locks that are manufactured for this specific purpose. Is this the best option? Any other recommendations? Thank you.
  14. In the process of getting ready for a big fishing trip. This rooms been in the works for 12 years, but I finally have it set up the way I want it. For now… ?
  15. Good stuff! Already have a bottle jack, but I hadn’t considered the boards until you guys mentioned it. That’s a great idea with the multiple size Nalgene bottles. Even for putting Stabil in the boat, it would make it a lot easier instead of trying to measure it out each time. My truck takes DEF and I will have a jug of it with me. I have a fire extinguisher in the boat, but hadn’t considered one for the truck. I have room in my safety kit, I’ll throw one in. I appreciate you guys taking time to give me some good ideas!
  16. I don’t have one, but I am going to pick one up now. Thanks for the suggestion!
  17. Mexico is a bucket list trip! I know a few retired gentlemen that go down there every winter. I’ll make it happen eventually! Yes sir, I have the map card for the area I’ll fish. And I have a sister in Bismarck, I’m aware of the desolate North Dakota landscape. ? Can’t forget the beef jerky! Mine can. Says is it rated for up to 6 1/2 L diesels. And I did use it on my truck once before.
  18. Thanks for the suggestions. I’ll break the trip up into a 2+ day drive. I don’t want to be super fatigued when I get there and I know it’s going to take longer pulling the boat. Coincidentally, I had to replace my batteries at the end of last season, so they’re pretty much brand new. I appreciate that idea about the air compressor, I do have a small one that I can throw in. I’m all about redundancy, so this is good stuff.
  19. I’ll be driving the whole way, but I have someone riding shotgun over and back with me. Good thought on the test run. I do plan on a few local fishing trips before I go. Just to make sure everything is in working order.
  20. I’m going to take my boat on an 1800 mile(one way) road trip in two weeks. Idaho to Michigan. I’ve already done lots of preparation to the trailer/boat/gear. Just thought I would post up and see if anyone had any good ideas for me. My rig is a newer Chevy 3500 diesel pulling a custom 22’ aluminum boat with a 250 Yamaha on a double axel trailer. I use a wheelchair, so I’m trying to eliminate/prepare for any problems that could arise. ? Things I’ve done so far: repacked trailer bearings/had everything inspected put on quality tires, Goodyear endurance mounted two spares on the trailer truck has newer tires already have transom straps and heavy duty winch, taking extra ratchets just in case i’ve already located recharging locations and I’m carrying extension cords. Of course, all the required safety stuff and some above what’s needed. Per Glens new video, it will be centered on the trailer and strapped down tight ? Engine has been serviced and running good this year I’ve gone through my gear multiple times. Clothes/hats/gloves for every weather condition I might experience. sunscreen/bug spray. All the rods/reels/line I might need. Triple the amount of soft plastic I could use, as well as terminal tackle, same goes for hard baits. I purchased some security stuff for the boat so I can lock everything down. I’m sure I forgot to mention some stuff, but that’s the bulk of it. Anybody have any other ideas? Thanks!
  21. Good suggestions. I called Phenix and they are putting one in the mail today. I had an excellent customer service experience.
  22. Pre-marriage interview process…
  23. I crushed the very end of the tip guide on a Phenix Feather casting 7’1” MH. Since I’m not able to measure the guide diameter, I was curious if anyone can let me know the appropriate size guide to replace it with. The blank wasn’t damaged, just the metal end. Thanks
  24. Distance is somewhat of an issue. I would prefer to do it myself, and not drag it all the way to a service center. It's an Ulterra IPilot Link 2016
