  1. I prefer my niche to be whatever I can get those buggers to bite on that given day. That being said though, I absolutely love fishing frogs. There's nothing like a gigantic explosion followed by an eye crossing swing to let you know the battle is on.
  2. Side Imaging/Side Scan is the best tool
  3. As TxGator said GPS these days is almost a must. Even just for safety of running, you can run a safe pass and then on the way back follow your tracks without worry of hitting anything. You can mark anything you find and come back to it at any point and time. The other thing that's important when you have a GPS is a color screen. It really helps to make the maps and waypoints pop as well as just all around being easier to read in the sun. On a side note, I've got a used Lowrance LMS 332 for sale. It's got a 5" color screen and it's also a GPS. It comes with the GPS puck, transducer, and all cords needed. The only reason I'm getting rid of it is because I upgraded to the new HDS 7 Gen2 Touch with side scan and down scan which ran me two grand. :/ It'd be within your price ranged. If you're interested send me a pm and I'll give you the rest of the details.
  4. Yeah, unfortunately it doesn't work over ethernet. I found that out after I forked out the $50 for an ethernet cable after being told it would. Oh well, that just gives me reason to upgrade lol
  5. I've caught them all over on a drop shot, usually with a finesse worm, or some other small bait made for the technique.
  6. I would think it'd be fine to use. If it's not chalky and or brittle I'd say go for it.
  7. Looks like you've got a good start, now the real question is....will it stay that organized? lol
  8. KVD uses it, and it's good enough for him I'm guessing it will suit you just fine.
  9. St. Croix is always a good brand to go with. I've heard some mixed reviews about their Rage rods, not so much in performance, but in the feel. Some people love the grip and some absolutely hate it. I'd suggest going to a store and seeing if you like it or not. Otherwise it's a good rod. The Avid is built on the same blank, but they have a traditional cork handle and are also built in the US in my neck of the woods. The other advantage to the Avid is that it comes with the lifetime warranty vs. the 5 years of the Rage. I think either would be a great option for you.
  10. Not the best, not the worst. I think you'll be fine though.
  11. Hey guys, just made this post to let you know that the Chippewa Valley Bass Attack is looking for members. We have a team format, and generally fish lakes within an hour and a half of Eau Claire. As a team, we fish for a 5 fish limit so if you're a boater and want to fish alone, you can still compete. The Bass Attack is a B.A.S.S affiliated group that is part of the Federation Nation. For those of you unfamiliar with this, it means you are able to fish a series of tournaments (a kind of playoff format) that if you place high enough in, will earn you a trip to The Bassmasters Classic. This will be my 3rd year in the club and I've gotta say the members are all pretty stand up guys, not to mention they can fish! If you want to know more about us, check out our website at http://www.chippewavalleybassattack.com If you have any questions, you can always hit me up on here and I'll get you the info you need or put you in touch with someone who can.
  12. Personally I think a good rod for both would be a 6'6" - 6'8" rod. You don't want the tip to constantly be slapping the water, but you want it to be long enough to get that bait out there a good distance. If you're exceptionally short, you could probably even get by with a 6' rod.
  13. If you already have it, go ahead and give it a shot. If you're looking around, I'd try to find a 20 or 30 size instead.
  14. I'm guessing that he was sponsored by Luck-E Strike in 2012 or at an earlier time whenever the video was recorded, and now he's sponsored by Megabass.
  15. I would say probably a rod anywhere from 7' to 7'6" H with a fast tip. That should let you do your frogging as well as flip an pitch or punch the heavy stuff.
  16. There are plenty of places that make them. Some of the major companies that do are Gemini Custom Apparel (they make all the BASS jerseys), The Winnin Team (all FLW jerseys), Rayjus, Atomic Bass Fishing Apparel. I'm sure that there are a few more but I know these are the big ones. I've got jerseys from all these companies, and I can honestly say they're all top notch and they make great jerseys. The other thing that you need to be aware of is that they are not cheap. You can get some semi-custom jerseys in the $60 range but full custom will be closer to the $100 range if not more. Also, you're going to have to get approval from the companies to use their logo to have the jerseys made.
  17. http://www.jcpenney.com/men/big-tall/workwear-scrubs/parasuit-long-sleeve-jumpsuit---big-tall/prod.jump?ppId=pp5002750293&selectedSKUId=54537060422&selectedLotId=5453706&ppId=pp5002750293&fromBag=true&cm_mmc=ShoppingFeed-_-GooglePLA-_-Coverall-_-54537060422&ci_src=17588969&ci_sku=54537060422 bring it back bro it's amazing what you can find in a 2 second google search I know it's online, but look at tackle warehouse. They've got stuff from all the brands and free shipping if your order is over $50. That way you're not having to order a bunch from each brand to get free shipping.
  18. I have from time to time gotten caught up in the moment and let one fly. Never really do it if there's another boat in sight though.
  19. Weighted vs. unweighted Types of weights to peg or not to peg
  20. http://www.sundolphin.com/pro-102/ These are a good option. I had one when I was a kid. It's stable for a small boat and ideal for one person. It also offers you the ability to move around more than a kayak, gives you more room for your stuff, and offers a built in livewell. Also, 28-40lb thrust trolling motor will push you along just fine, but if you want to upgrade, you can put an outboard on it. I put an 8 horse on mine and it'd run 15-20 mph. Only disadvantage I can think of for it is it's too heavy to put in the back of your truck if you're by yourself, but a trailer for it isn't a whole lot more. I absolutely loved mine and would have kept it if I didn't need the money to upgrade. These boats have been around for quite a while and over the years have went by different names. If you look up Bass Hound 10.2 and Bass Tender 10.2 you'll also find they are the same. Most of the time you can find one on craigslist for around $500-700.
  21. Personally love the sound of braid going through the guides, especially when you're winding in a big'un!
  22. I'm guessing they're pretty similar, if not the same shape. I'm sure Lucky Craft has different internals on theirs though which separate them. They look like pretty legit baits though.
  23. If you're using it for Texas rigs and jigs, I think you'd want a medium heavy no matter the brand.
  24. That's a pretty good all around gear ratio. What you use it for just depends on the rod you choose to put it on. I'd look at the St. Croix Avid line. They make some amazing rods, and you can get them for any technique you want. A good all around rod would be anything in the 6'6" to 7' medium power with a fast action.
  25. Great for you, but not everyone is in that type of position. Some people here don't get to see the new gear, or have friends that have it. I know around me there's not a lot of retailers that carry certain brands. That makes it pretty hard to get to use it and get a feel of it before they buy it. There's nothing wrong with asking peoples opinions on gear. It's one of the biggest investments an angler makes and there's nothing worse than forking out a bunch of money for something, only to find that it's nothing like what you expected. There are parts of this form dedicated to what you are looking for. If you don't see what you're looking for, then start a new topic.
