  1. I use backing almost all the time. Some of my spinning reels are the only exceptions. When I do I just use mono. There's no need to waste money on something that'll never see the light of day.
  2. Generally I fight most of mine unless they're dinks.
  3. I'm not sure if it's the same with the Elites as it is with the Touch units, but on those you can actually export a region onto a map card and name the file. So basically if I've got a ton of waypoints on a lake, I can make a box around it, go to export region, and all those waypoints are backed up on the card in a file with the name of my choosing. I'd recommend looking over your users manual to see if your unit is capable of this as well. Another thing worth noting, that unit will store 3000 waypoints without the use of an sd card so if you fish 8 to 10 lakes you can probably get away without even using one.
  4. They've ran combos on and off with "PQ's" before. They had a Christmas special one year that had a color changing paint scheme that had more bearings than the regular PQ but was about the same price if not cheaper even with the rod.
  5. 2008 had the old model, 09 did not have it. I believe it was was probably left out due to space and other reels in the category (Rick Clunn and Pro Lite both $99) Also, considering that in 09 the catalog had both the PQ spinning reel and the PQ rods, I'm guessing it just didn't make the cut. Them not having the 4.7 in the left hand retrieve isn't surprising. It's has to make them a profit in order to make it and although there are a few die hard anglers out there running reels that slow, they are for sure few and far between.
  6. Not sure that they ever had it, but usually BPS releases the new reels before they clearance the old ones out.
  7. If you're looking to upgrade spinning rods I'd suggest either a St. Croix Legend Tournament Bass series or a Legend Xtreme. The Xtremes are absolutely insane!!
  8. The real question is do you think you need another one?
  9. I'm pretty sure a 15" shaft will be just fine.
  10. Anything on a drop shot, craw imitation, bluegill colored spinnerbait if they are guarding eggs, and a wacky rig.
  11. Excalibur baits were originally a series in the Bomber line called the Excalibur Series. They featured upgraded rotating treble hooks and premium finishes. They changed the packaging over the years to enhance branding and eventually ended up with the Excalibur packaging you bought them in. Although I'm not sure why they phased these out, I believe it was mainly due to the fact that other bait companies were offering those things as standard. They are still making them exclusively for Dicks or they phased them out and Dicks bought out everything they had in stock and overstock from other companies which is possible. Either way they are a great deal and there's no reason not to buy them!
  12. Pretty sure you have to the first time in WI. After they have you in their file they use your DNR number. I guess I haven't heard of anyone refusing to provide theirs to know if they still got their licence or not.
  13. Sure why not, I'll play!
  14. I see Bald Eagles all the time, and once saw a small school of topless ladies sunning themselves on a dock.
  15. I hear ya! It can be tough to judge. I deal with this issue at times probably more than most being that I'm 6'6" Fish that look big with others don't look as big when I hold them. Sometimes angles can play a part of it too. A great example is this picture The smallmouth in that pic was just under 4 lbs and it looks tiny. I know it weighed that much because I caught it in a tourney and It was big smallmouth that day.I actually took home a check because of it.
  16. If I remember right, I think I've seen them at Gander. I could be wrong though and I can't promise yours will carry them. Otherwise I'd go ahead and check those places around you. If not BPS seems to be the cheapest I've seen at least with the bigger packs. TW has them too but it's $2.50 for 6 or 7 depending on size. BPS also has their online spring fishing classic with sales now with free shipping on orders over $75.
  17. It's a cool concept, but it's got a pretty poor rating on Bass Pro.
  18. It should be on the transom right in the middle.
  19. You could turn some of those EWG hooks into screw lock hooks with the addition of a hitchhiker. You can get 24 for $5 and you're still getting them cheaper than an Owner. As far as VMC hooks go, I've used them and have nothing against them. They seem super sticky and they get the job done. I really like their spin shot hooks. As much as I like the VMC's I REALLY like my Trokars! I loaded up on the TW sale around Christmas!
  20. Awesome! I think it's really cool you're taking him under your wing like that.
  21. It's true that post frontal conditions can hurt fishing. In the summer it means bluebird skies and raising barometric pressure which really turn fish off then. Being that it's spring it could actually help some. If it was a warm rain, it'll help to raise the water temps and the sunny skies will help to do the same. In the summer it will turn them off more than it will now, but either way it's no reason NOT to go. It's still fishing after all!
  22. Anything is possible, but the question is would you WANT to fish off a jet ski? I've only been on them a few times, but they aren't overly stable when they aren't under power, they have very little storage, movement is restricted, the jet on them have a tendency to clog fairly easily with mud, sand and grass. Like I said I'm sure you can, but I think most other platforms are a better option.
  23. My winter spinnerbait technique goes a little like this: chunk it out and wind it in while watching it slide across the ice. I'd recommend going against that one as I've never had any luck with it. lol
  24. Hey guys, just a heads up. The Bass Pro Shops "online" Spring Classic sale just went up on their website.
