  1. I believe my first one was a little plastic rod that was about a foot long that was a bath toy complete with floating fish that I'd use in the bath tub haha.
  2. I was going to say 2.5#'s too but it's hard to say from a picture with no point of reference. Nice fish though!
  3. It's also worth looking at what the weight recommendations are on the rod you're using. Your bait may be too light for the rod which causes the rod to not load properly resulting in poor casting performance.
  4. I'd use fluorocarbon.
  5. It might be easier to help you out if you had some pics of it.
  6. I'd probably go with a 55 if I could afford it. If it's the only means of propulsion for your boat, get two 27 series batteries and wire them in parallel.
  7. This doesn't sound like it's a line issue.
  8. Don't feel too bad, you didn't decimate the population, you didn't ruin fishing for years to come, and you probably did less damage than mother nature does on a daily basis!
  9. I've used them in the past and they're ok. They will get the job done for cheap. I still use their vertical drop hooks though as they seem to perfectly fit a BBB Cane Thumper. For pretty much anything else now I use Trokar.
  10. I've got a GoPro and love it. It's super easy to use, and has all the features and more that these other cameras have. They do cost a bit more, but I think it's worth it especially if you want to expand with it in the future. Like NJ said you can get others that will do a good enough job though. As long as it's not one you can get for like $30 - $50 at Walmart it should be ok. One other thing worth mentioning though is the frame rate. I know NJ said you don't need to record in a very high FPS for fishing, but if you're planning on taking snapshots straight from the video you really start to appreciate the higher FPS. It also ends up being clearer pictures as well, at least if there's movement (such as a bass tail-dancing boatside).
  11. A locator is well worth the investment. They are your eyes for underwater even if it is shallow. I'm a predominately shallow water fisherman as well, but I feel lost if I don't have one. There are a few lakes I know well enough I could get by without one, but it's always better to have one than to not.
  12. http://lmgtfy.com/?q=Zebco+Atac+Casting+Rod It's a graphite composite and they make a few different models. Grips/handles are personal preference so unless you've handled it you can't really say.
  13. Most of the reasons have already been stated, and most are because a frog has heavier hooks and is usually fished in much heavier cover. The other reason is, with braid having no memory it has a tendency to foul up hooks on a popper or walking bait. With mono, the slight stiffness usually keeps them a lot more tangle free.

  15. St. Croix wouldn't tell you that you can use braid with their rod when you can't, nor do I think they'd build one that you couldn't use any line you wanted to. Besides, if you ever do have an issue they have one of the best warranties/customer service in the business!
  16. I would think you'd want at least a 10 amp or close.
  17. I'd go with 12 lb fluoro on the bait casters and 8 lb mono or 20 lb braid on the spinning. You could go with 8 lb fluoro on it too, if you use something made for spinning reels such as Berkley 100% Fluoro XL, but braid and mono will still handle just a tad better.
  18. I'd go up to 50 for frogs. Pads can be tough to get them out of at times.
  19. This past weekend my dad and I fished in an annual benefit tournament to go towards lake improvement projects on Otter Lake. The tournament was a big fish tournament with payouts going to the top 3 of each of the 5 species in the lake in two different 4 hour sessions. The weather man had predicted on and off showers throughout the day, but he was a little off as we ended up having a light rain throughout the day. Despite the rain there were plenty of people who turned out to give it their best shot. The bite was definitely on, for us at least. The morning was fast a furious, with us catching fish on almost everything we threw at them. The most productive presentation ended up being a squarebill. At one point I even caught two fish on the same cast with it, and both were even keepers which made it that much sweeter! When all was said and done, I had won the morning bass session with my dad coming in second, and he also won the northern division in the morning. The afternoon was tougher as we both missed out on the 3rd place bass by a few ounces. Overall, it was an awesome day spent on the lake with us boating at least 60 fish. Not big but these are the two that I hauled in with one cast The 19 1/2 incher I caught that won
  20. Congrats on the new PB!
  21. The lein is the bigger issue. Go pay it off for him and leave with the title. If Iowa doesn't require trailer registration, you might have to go through a few more steps in MN to get your trailer titled. Make sure it's included on your bill of sale. I'm not sure who handles the titling in MN for the boats and trailers, but after you pay for it they will usually give you either a receipt or a temporary title that shows you are just waiting for yours.
  22. You WOT range is the range you want your engine to be able to turn when running wide open. It ensures your engine won't be lugging excessively throughout it's RPM range causing excessive wear and causing the engine to work harder than it has to. Usually you want to prop your motor so it's running near the top end of your WOT RPM range when your boat is at a normal load.
  23. Congrats on the new rig! I'm sure you're going to enjoy it. I think it should run decently in rough water. Maybe not quite as good as glass, but once you get used to running it it shouldn't be too bad.
  24. Mine is under the console as well.
