  1. Picking up of late. Got out last couple days. Did well tossing the jerk bait. Mostly pickerel but that's better then nothing. Crappie and sunny also active. Bass were small. Felt good to get back out there.
  2. I didn't think you could catch carp on lipless cranks. I thought they only went after dough balls and such. Interesting topic, up intill now I thought they were a boring catch. I'm hoping to land my first this year, might have to target them some outing this year. Brian
  3. Hey Gino. Glad to have you here. Fellow tri stater myself. Seems like you'll be able to teach as much as you learn here. Unfortunately being a newbie to bass fishing I don't bring much to the table lol. That's a crazy looking bass. And should outs on the hat. Good fishing! Brian
  4. Welcome
  5. Wow that's really exciting to know about the blues. I'm looking forward to them now more so then before. Good to know on the backing, now that you say it it makes perfect sense. I'm going to invest in some 30lb braid. I hope to get out soon but I have a feeling its much to early. I don't eat freshwater fish but I do eat saltwater. Would you recommend blues or stripers as a meal? Thanks
  6. I didn't even notice that. Wow that's dedication for a newbie. I'm a newbie myself and I wouldve guessed 4-5
  7. I've got about 75yds of suffix 20lb 832 briad I was thinking about putting on with a 10lb mono backing. I also have suffix 12lb mono that I've considered spolling on. Thanks Brian
  8. It's a St. Croix Tidemaster 7' med-heavy fast action 10-20lb. 1/2 - 1 1/2. The reel is a pflufger president model ppsw40 with a 5.2:1 gear ratio. 8Lb/260 10lb/195 12lb/175 with a 10 bearing system. I'll be fishing mostly the Long Island shore coast. I wouldn't mind adding the rod To my freshwater arsenal might i had to but I'm not sure what it would be good for. Thanks BRIAN
  9. I love Gander too bad I only get there when I visit my brother 6hrs away in Rochester NY. Have fun. Brian
  10. Thanks for all the great advice guys. My buddy picked up a pair of amber framed spiderwire sunglasses from wal mart, from the advice of this post for $17. So far he's impressed, we will find out soon enough. Were trying to get out there this weekend. I think I'm gonna pick up a pair of Berkeleys or spiderwires at wal mart and save for a pair of Wiley x's. Thanks guys. Brian
  11. Was thinking the same thing. Spinners and hand tied jigs maybe?
  12. I've inherited a Pflufger size 40 spinning reel and a St.Croix tidemaster rod. I've never done much salt water fishing but since I live more or less on the shore in CT I've decided to give it a go. Does this sound like a decent setup for shore/pier fishing for strippers and such. Also what line do you guys recommended. I'll probably also use it for big catfish/carp and Pike. Thanks Brian
  13. Hey guys. I'll start off apologizing in case this is posted in the wrong fourm. Anyway I'm on a tight budget and was looking for a good all around pair of fishing sunglasses. I've noticed company's like strike king and Berkeley along with some others make what they advertise as polarized glasses in the 30-50 dollar range. Has anybody tryed a pair? I know they won't compare to a nice $250 pair but what does everyone think? Am I better off savings and getting a 100+ dollar pair? Thanks Brian
  14. Got out sat and Sunday for a couple he's each. Hit up a little flood controlled lake in town. It's always been good to me but I got nothing the last two days. Didn't even see any signs of life. I tossed a jerk/Senko/jig/tube and slow rolled a spinner. Brian
  15. My first thought was moisture possibilities and my second was I'm more concerned with how my rod feels in my hand then I am with how my cork looks. Brian
  16. Seen a bunch of hook removal vids on YouTube, and I'd have to say Swindle was by far the most B A. Thanks for posting it was very informative. Brian
  17. Been there. Stay strong. It's almost time. Brian
  18. I don't think it does. Gonna run over and take a stab at my local farm pond before the rain. I'll let you guys know how I make out. Brian
  19. Glad there ok. Maybe the ones who don't will take it more seriously. Brian
  20. CT: Candlewood lake
  21. The Megabass Pony Gabot? It has a catamaran mouth. The mouth bites into the water, as it does this the rear lift a little so it can hit against the surface. Looks cool! Might give it a try. Brian
  22. I liked Hanover. Seemed like a Nice little bank fishing spot. Lots of shoreline. good when you don't have time to take out the boat. I'm assuming you can toss the yak in there but I'm not sure. Brian
  23. Welcome. I'm not to far away. How's the fishing there? ever been to CT to fish?
  24. Welcome Bob. Where you from?
