  1. Thanks for the replies everyone. I'm aware of the Bass weight = Length^2 x Girth^2 / 1200 formula as I did bust out my google-fu for this before we got started . So even though there is a formula for this already, I'd like to see if there were some new insights that we could pull out, which would take a large set of data. Thanks for this! I'll be inquiring about their data
  2. I want to find a correlation between the length, height, and weight.
  3. I've been looking for data for a fishing app that I'm trying to make but I can't seem to find what I'm looking for. I've contacted the California DFG and it was a long wait for nothing. So would be awesome if the Bass Resource guys could help me out! Here's what I'm looking for: Bass length, height, girth, weight, and ideally a picture of this fish but it's OK if there isn't one. If anyone knows where I can find this, or even if you have your own catch log that you wouldn't mind sharing with me, I will be forever in your debt. Thanks guys!
  4. All luck my man, was hoping it was a bass lol.
  5. I was fishing with my brother when he metered a spot of fish so I dropped my line. Felt a little something hit the line and set the hook. I pulled up this Somebody must have been using a live bluegill for bait and I hooked the eye of his hook. I removed old hook and he swam away with a big hole in his hump. After the session, I went to buy a Powerball ticket and lost. Does this count as lucky?
  6. When I used to fish the local park lakes, catching 1 bass was my goal. I would be consider 2 bass a great day and 3 would be completely mindblowing. Now I mostly fish a private community lake and consider 10 to be pretty standard. The ones I catch are mostly in the 1lb range but as long as I'm catching then its all good. Even now, as long as I catch 1 fish then I feel good about fishing that day. Getting skunked sucks...
  7. Glad to help and good luck! Post a report if you head over there
  8. I eat beer and finish dehydrated, drunk, and regretting not bringing water or food. Then I pass out on the couch and all is well.
  9. Hey Lunker, don't know if you saw my post but here's a link to it anyway: http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/90885-new-to-korea/ Looks like a 1.5 hours subway commute if you're starting from Songtan Station, so there might be some closer options
  10. A 25lber on record means one bigger than the current record exists, so someone should eventually catch it. Probably Karl Von Dibble.
  11. when your woman doesn't ask questions when your fingers smell fishy.
  12. Its skill and experience. When I first started fishing I went with 7 of my friends to Irvine Lake and none of us knew what we were doing. We caught 1 trout amongst all of us in 8 hours and got drunk as hell. Next time I went with someone who's been fishing for his whole life and we all limited out. Lucky bites do happen when the fish will bite anything, but you gotta be someone special to be consistently lucky enough to throw out anything and catch fish every time you go out.
  13. I think it's just me Thanks! I have been finding that this is a very friendly bunch already.
  14. Thanks for the tips ya'll. I'm gonna still call her Big Daddy though
  15. I have seen Big Daddy chase the smaller bass we throw back but haven't witnessed her actually eat one.
  16. Whenever I go out bass fishing to a certain spot there's always this monster 8 lber hanging around the boat. We call it Big Daddy. I used to try to throw baits at it but at most I'll get a casual glance and then the bass just ignores it. We've given up trying to catch Big Daddy but it ticks me off every time I see him just chillin'. I'm not going to be able to catch it until the weather warms up, but any suggestions on how to catch this bass?
  17. Thanks for the warm welcome!
  18. Actually born and raised in SoCal, but my parents are of Chinese in descent
  19. This thread is pretty old but I thought someone could benefit from the info. Having lived in Korea from 2010-2011, I remember casting into my sink in my apartment when I didn't know where to fish and the bass bug was biting . Hopefully the info is still relevant. Here goes. I lived in Siheung for a year right next to the Oido station and fished a local reservoir regularly. The place is called Ma Jeon Jeo Su Ji, or 마전저수지 in Korean. If you copy and paste it into google maps you should be able to find it on google earth. I used to ride my bike there and it would take about 30 mins and I'd smoke 2 cigs on the ride over during the downhill portions. I did take a taxi twice with Korean friends and they dropped us off at the intersection where a tackle shop is. We also had this tackle shop call us a taxi for the ride back. Anyway, from there, its about a 10-15 min walk through under the freeway and up a dirt road. You'll pass an indoor fishing type of concrete pond but keep going up the path, I think it's just stocked carp in there. Once you get to the spot, you'll see some random dogs walking around. I had one bark at me aggressively but besides that they've never bothered me. While your fishing, a worker will come by and collect the fishing fee from you, which was 5,000 won at the time, and give you a ticket for the day. The worker didn't speak English but you should be able to get your point across. I told him in Korean that I was Chinese American and didn't speak Korean well. It just happened that he was a Chinese immigrant so we just spoke Chinese to each other lol. So if you speak Chinese, you might be in luck. You can fish anywhere except the penned off areas. If you want to fish the stocked trout, it's 20,000 won. I'm not sure about the carp area though. I fished all around the lake but caught most of them during the spawn at the docks in the entrance. There's some 5+ lbers that you can see cruising around but I've never gotten them to bite. I did catch my biggest on a 3 inch senko clone in the furthest right or western area of the lake. It was a 3-4 lber that bit randomly. I've gotten maybe 2-3 fish from there. You should really focus on the docks at the entrance of the lake as they seem to congregate there, but there's fish generally holding in all the docks. Lures that worked for me were purple texas rigged power worms, 3 & 4 inch senkos, small white jigs with small craw trailers, shakey headed robo worms, and I've also seen locals fishing hardbaits catch some big ones. White jig worked the best during the spawning times and you can literally see and catch a fish 6 feet in front of you if you have the patience. It took me 1.5 hours focusing on one fish. All bass are catch release too, so don't try to keep any. I'm sure I might be missing something so ask any questions that you might have. The fishing is not great, but I rarely left skunked after focusing on the docks at the entrance. I'd at least get 1-2 fish every session, and I'd go about once a week. In case you're wondering, this is what a Korean largemouth looks like yeah... its the same. And this is what the entrance area looks like from a different angle. Its also what 1 guy trying to teach 3 others how to fish looks like. Best of luck those fishing in Korea, feel free to ask me any questions on the spot if you have any.
  20. Been bass fishing for about 4 years and remember reading bass resource from time to time. Just wanted to introduce myself and look forward to the insights gained from the forum. Been catching too much trout and the bass bug is biting!
