  1. Anything less than 2lb for large and smallmouth and anything less than a pound for spots
  2. For some reason I've found that smallmouth like bright colors when it comes to cranks, spinnerbaits, grubs etc other than jigs. A chartreuse grub or chartreuse crankbait or spinnerbait believe it or not will produce big smallies in crystal clear water no matter the time of year or water temp. Only thing I leave natural when smallmouth fishing is really only jigs. Also hair jigs are a great smallmouth bait in the winter along with the float and fly especially on dale hollow (it's an hour and a half drive from my house) lol
  3. I tried a 1/16 hair jig in various darker colors and still nothing. Maybe just a bad day we all have them I guess
  4. I fish almost exclusively 10-18" worms ranging from huge trick worms to ring tail and most of the time ribbon tail. I have caught 7" fish on 15" worms and I have also caught 6lb fish on 4" finesse worms. A lot of people underestimate a bass's ability to inhale large lures but in reality if the fish gets close to the hook more times than not it's a caught fish. Usually with the larger baits I let them take it for 3-5 seconds before setting hook just to be sure they got the whole thing. Just remember what matters the most is you will be using a larger gauge hook and need a rod and setup stiff enough to drive the hook home more times than not a hard snap set is key with bigger hooks. As far as retrieve I like to let the fish tell me. Sometimes drag sometimes hop but what I like to do is fish it kind of like a jig when it runs into timber or rock or something I'll pause and shake it a little and if nothing bites I'll rip it up 2-3' and a lot of times if it didn't peak there interest you'll get a reaction strike. You haven't lived until you've caught a 5lb fish on a 12" trick worm on a shaky head lol
  5. First by cold water I mean 45 degrees and lower. I had a tough tournament Wednesday with two fish being caught on my boat neither of which would keep. The situation I had was high muddy waters with the temp ranging from 38.8 to 41.6 on the dam at mid day. We stayed on the dam and around rock when the sun came up and temp started rising while throwing the trusty silver buddy and jigs, shaky heads, grubs, wiggle warts, jerkbaits, even the small sr5 shad raps. And nothing. The only two fish came on the silver buddy so we layed with it all day only switching to different lures when we got tired of the silver buddy. Lets hear some of your favorite baits for cold water be sure to include water color, depth, rod/reel/line set up and the forage you are imitating. I think we all can benefit from this especially me since cold water is my main weakness in fishing.
  6. The brand is called profound outdoors and Timmy Horton is the creator of it. I do look forward to seeing what is released and if they don't mark up the baits like other companies you can bet if they're good baits then my boat will be full of them. Goodbye lucky craft, spro, megabass, sebile etc.
  7. Black/blue is my all time favorite jig color followed by PB&J. I do agree the sapphire blue is my favorite trailer but more times than not in clear water I like a green pumpkin blue flake trailer just seems to me they prefer it over the sapphire when the water is clear. I think it's because the sapphire has a little to much flash in clear water and just doesn't look natural enough.
  8. For a lot of action and vibration I like the rage tail chunk/craw/lobster just depends on the size of the jig. For subtle action and not a lot of vibration I like the zoom fat Albert twin tails and for a really subtle action with little to no action I like just a regular zoom super chunk. But my secret with jig trailers lies in the packages they come in. I spray the inside of the bags about 4 good sprays of the Powerteam Hogtonica and the plastics just soak it up like a sponge if you look in the bag about a week after you spray it there will be little to no oil but the trailers themselves will be gorged full of it and I've found that the Hogtonica and the regular clear JJ's magic garlic are the best out there but the hogtonica IMO just can't be beat
