  1. I used to use power pro, but always 40lb and up. The lighter stuff dug in a lot no matter what brand I tried. Last 2 reels I have spooled up with Power Pro MaxCuatro and I love it. It's a fantastic line. The 40lb is the diameter of 30lb regular power pro and it does not dig in. Line is strong and does everything I need it to do.
  2. With the higher waters lots of the areas we fish on boats around here are well not that great. I've been doing a lot of bank fishing. That has also been a bit tough.
  3. Bubblegum senkos and trick worms, both catch bass.
  4. The extra money for the Type R to me is not worth it. I see no real performance upgrade from my Type R. I have upgraded bearings on both the ct and type r. The two reels fish just about the same. I would go CT. Upgrade the bearings and you'll be good to go. Now there is a difference between the CT and SV. The SV does perform better than the CT and the price difference to me is worth the money.
  5. Boomerangs are excellent and compact. Pitbull Cutters are phenomenal.
  6. I've thrown the big live target a few times. I have a few of them in white and black, black and brown. I have yet to get a strike on one. They seem to weed out the smaller fish. So for me its one of those lures like a BIG swimbait. You're looking for a few strikes in a full day of fishing. But those few strikes will be big fish. Personally I prefer the medium sized frogs that attract fish of all sizes and still catch the bigger ones. I don't have the patience to use them super sized baits to get only a couple of strikes in the day.
  7. Yeah the boats only have TM, but you can get around ok with it. It does limit you a bit but regardless it lets you get to some areas you can't reach on land. Glad you had a good day out there and figured out a bite.
  8. ^^^ Tamiami Trail is an excellent place to go. It is a good place to bank fish the everglades. It does have miles of canal to fish with easy access. I like going out there a lot because even though it isn't completely remote, it isn't urban either. Just make sure you keep an eye out for gators and snakes. Keep your head on a swivel.
  9. If you are going to be using a leader who cares what color line you get? Heck make it match. Make it visible so you can see it.
  10. Love the Daiwa Tatula rod. It is slightly tip heavy but with the right reel it is good stuff. I have the 7'4" Frog Rod. As far as their regular, it is supposed to be closer to "Fast" than Moderate. Fantastic rod, very sensitive. Heck I threw a weightless senko a mile. Just had to be careful with my hooksets. The backbone and braid combined made for some stiff hooksets. But I felt every bite without issue on it.
  11. For any swimbait that is 4 1/2 inches or longer I use a 5/0 VMC hook. Generally with a weight of 1/8oz.
  12. South Florida is a big area. What area of South Florida will you be in?
  13. Thanks for the report Geo G! Turf you know out of all the times I have been out to Lox I have only seen 2 or 3 gators. They don't seem to be as common out there as they are in the glades canals. The Oscars are a mystery to me as well. Like Geo G and Turf those things were a PITA on every single cast, no matter how shallow, or deep you cast. Where in the heck did they all go?
  14. If she flips the bail with that finger, she could be allergic to whatever material that bail is made of. Whatever metal? Or like you said the line. She can get some fishing gloves. There are some inexpensive ones that may help her. There are a few brands that make full finger gloves instead of the cut offs.
  15. I bought one of them during the ebay 20% sale. I got a MH Fast and I do all those things you mentioned. I have tried a spinnerbait on it, and several worms. So far the MH is doing everything I need and want it to do. It casts very well and actually is not as stiff as my Fenwick Methods MH rod. It's also very sensitive. Because the Methods is stiffer though, I find the spinnerbait is a little less tiring on the Methods than on the Avid X. But that is just personal preference as well. I still thing it is an acceptable rod for the spinnerbait. BTW I throw 1/2oz spinnerbaits.
  16. I've never fished the Shock, I have fished the regular Berkley Lightning. I would say it is a heck of a good rod at it's price range.
  17. I'd go straight braid. No FC leader. If you decide to go with a leader, go mono because Fluorocarbon sinks and you are throwing topwater lures and baits. You'll get better action out of the lure with straight braid, or mono leader.
  18. Yeah that is my understanding of it as well which is why I recommend it. The T wing quite honestly isn't a huge deciding factor for me when getting a reel. But the 90mm handle, the Magforce Z brakes and the quality of the build smoothness all around if it is like the Tatula CT then it's a heck of a reel at a very low price.
  19. I would stay as far away from a BPS megacast as possible. That thing is pure junk. I bought that as my first baitcaster to learn and I ended up having to buy another baitcaster. I couldn't cast that thing unless the brakes were set to the highest setting. I took it out back a couple months ago to try it again and I still can barely cast that thing without all kinds of overruns and line twists. BTW I can cast a baitcaster now. In fact I use a baitcaster 85% of the time. But the megacast is just 40 dollars worth of junk. If you are looking for a budget baitcaster you are still going to have to pay a little more than 40 for something decent. The Daiwa Aird is a good reel for 79.00 You can get the Dawia Fuego CT for 79 right now which is supposed to be better than the aird. This would be my choice for a starter baitcaster.
  20. LOL I thought you said you didn't have any left! Ohhh I see a sales tactic. I actually have like 3 left in a pack. I need to buy more.
  21. I think they go deeper. Or if they can find some really thick cover they will go hide in that. In the summer down here you'll have your best chance at a bigger fish early in the morning or late in the afternoon. OR at night if you have the luxury of fishing at night. The fish I have on my profile pic was caught around noon or 1pm. Fish was deep in the middle of the canal as I worked a frog from one side over to the middle, this fish slowly crept up from the depth and stalked the frog for a moment before it gulped it up and dove. That was a near 5lber on the scale. Another one about the same size hit a jig on that same canal it was shallow hiding in a pad field.
  22. There you go!
  23. Check out Bitters Baits. I believe that may be one of their craws.
  24. Best producing stick bait color down here in our area is Watermelon Red. Sticko Morning Dawn does well for me at certain times of the day.
