  1. I have the previous model which is the Savvy and it does run 1 power lower than rated. Mine is a casting rod though. I have the 734c which is a "Heavy" but it fishes like a MH. It is my all around rod and it is fantastic!
  2. I am curious about this. How do you know they actually focus on this dot you placed in front of the front hook? I fish shallow 4-5 feet and my cranks usually go from 3-6 feet. If the dot is at the bottom of the crank and the crank is at the bottom of the water, how will this dot work? Wouldn't I want the dot on the top of the crank? I write the depth of my crank between the bill and front hook. Will they focus in on that the same as the dot? I'd say make sure you have no slack on your line. Keep constant pressure on the fish. I do a good hard side sweep with my cranks. Don't crank too often but ever since I made sure my cranks had good hooks out the box I've only lost 1 small fish. I use the KVD cranks, and Academy H2O cranks. Not all cranks are made the same and some just have crappy hooks. I would say the KVD cranks have pretty decent hooks. I don't think that is your issue.
  3. I personally use the following: Braid - Palomar Knot for everything except punching. Punching I use a snell knot so that the hook flips up when the weight pushes down on it. In theory helps with the hookset. All other lines - Improved Clinch Knot because its easy and I haven't had any issues with it. I don't use leaders so I don't have a knot preference there.
  4. Speaking of dobyns, I have a Dobyns Savvy which is the previous model to the sierra. It isn't a crankbait rod or anything, but it does well with the heavier stuff and does really well with spinnerbaits. I have the Savvy 734C. Like Fishnkamp mentioned in the 110 dollar range that fury should be a good choice. They are highly talked about.
  5. Not sure, haven't held one yet. lol As far as the *** *** well, turns out it's a bad word here on bassresource...Or bad numbers with a bad word. You can do a search for the model of rod I mentioned on TW and you'll see what I am talking about
  6. Love me some snook fishing. Like bass on a larger scale. lol.
  7. I don't go to walmart specifically to buy baits and lures unless I know they carry something in particular. I do buy my powerpro braid there, so when I go in for line, I check the baits and lures. If I am at Walmart for any reason I always go check wht they have going on. Sometimes they have the baits and colors I throw, sometimes they don't. Sometimes they have stuff on sale. Mine usually has a bunch of YUM brand baits on clearance. With them being cheap to begin with sometimes you can get bags of of YUM stuff dirt cheap. Also great prices on Zoom products.
  8. Yeah you guys are getting more action out of it than I am lol. I know the size 40 and 50 are supposed to float better and they actually function as wake baits.
  9. Was out there yesterday. Water is still very low. Most boats had a hard time getting into the cuts near Slims Fish Camp. Between the low water and hydrilla mats and very muddy water it is very risky to maneuver in those flats. I would say stay away from the lake till its up unless you are going to fish the rim canal or some other areas that aren't as low as the flats by slims. We tried the Rim canal for a couple of hours and didn't get a bite.
  10. I recently got 2 Gambler swim jigs and really liked them. Fished them in pads, around hydrilla and reeds and didn't have any issues. Good skirts on them and caught some fish on it, strong hook too.
  11. I have the size 30 in grey and have yet to get a strike on it. I've used it in 4 different days, probably put in about an hour and a half to 2 hours per day with it. The only thing I have seen to give me some sort of hope is a school of bass that chased it to the bank but kept their distance. I tried to slow it down, and then even stop it. Changed retrieve speed but couldn't get them to strike. I was also a little disappointed that the size 30 drops down about 6 inches in the water column and runs like a crank bait instead of a wake bait unless you retrieve it really really slow.
  12. I tie an improved clinch knot on my mono and fluoro lines. No issues, but if you have a bend at the end is it possible your line is slipping at the knot? If it is slipping you're doing something wrong when tying it that you weren't doing before. Palomar on my braid. Never tried a san diego jam, so I can't give you any feedback on it.
  13. I have been a fan of the SK S11 glasses up until a week ago. I am not sure what happened, but I was wiping down my lens and all of the sudden I started seeing some spots on one of them. I looked closer and on the inside it looked like I was taking off some of the tint. So now one of my lens has spots on it. I don't know if it was sunblock and sweat that got onto the lens and wiping it down with a sunglass cloth rubbed the tint or some layer of their coating off. But very disappointed in that. I may have to look at these renegade glasses if they are as good as you say they are. For me the S11's performed just as good as my Wiley X's. My only concern with these cheaper glasses now is, will what happened to my S11's happen on other glasses that have a "coating".
  14. I like crayons. Can't beat crayons AND stickers! This book is going to be awesome!
  15. That's what I thought. I would assume the Teckel Sprinker frog does walk though. Even with that leg coming out of its behind.
  16. Yikes in the 20 dollar ballpark, that's a tough one. Tints on the glasses give you the visibility into the water. Depending on the brightness of the day there are different tints designed for different brightness. I personally use Amber tint with green mirror. I find it to be most useful on the water and most brightness of the day. Take a look at the Costa del Mar website, or the Oakley website, and check out what their tints look like. Both sites have a side by side of what a picture looks like without, and with a particular tint.
  17. I spooled up 2 reels last week with KastKing Masters Hazard Yellow mono. Only used it one day, but caught 10 fish on it and the bass didn't seem to mind the hazard. Must do more testing, but so far I am really liking this mono. As far as what color I normally use? Well for braid, I have always used moss green. I bought yellow but haven't used it. For mono and fluoro I have always used clear lines. Some clear florescent as well. The florescent adds visibility for me, but it disappears well in the water and becomes clear. Used to be big on line visibility, but I am slowly trying to debunk the theory that fish can see my line and stay away from my bait due to it.
  18. I'm with you. I only read books with pictures.
  19. Out of curiosity, does this toad completely float like a HB? Cast as well as a HB? Does it walk easily if you don't want to do a straight retrieve? Never used it before.
  20. It really depends on the line. Some lines need it far less than others. But yes it works. It works very well. I've fished some lines that I just couldn't stand the coiling and the memory, backlashing all the time. Used the line conditioner on it and it made the line way more fishable. Now if you spray it on a line that has very little memory then obviously the result will be a on a smaller margin.
  21. The Daiwa Tatula rods and they are under 200 a piece. Other than that I would say Dobyns Sierra line. I have an Avid X spinning rod. Haven't really used it enough yet to make a determination on that.
  22. They go on sale for Christmas, and a BIG sale usually for the Spring Classic.
  23. That stuff is trash. I had the same experience on a spinning rod with 20lb test. I could snap that line with my hands. Lost a really nice snook at the boat with that line. Right after that trip I ripped it out and tossed the rest of the spool. I would have taken it out back and burned it but it didn't deserve any more of my time or effort.
  24. As mentioned above, look at the BPS Sticko. They flat out catch fish just like the GY brand. You can get bulk bags.
