  1. Was micro cranking again and thought I stuck a solid bass, turns out it was a scrawny channel cat 17 or 18" long. Pulled pretty hard on a light spinning rod with 6lb test, even jumped! I had never seen a cat jump before that.
  2. ...Muskies won't be the only thing fattening up on trout...
  3. Red Label Fluoro is very thin and compared to mono, incredibly sensitive. Sensitivity helps tons with crappies
  4. Fish a spook JR in the spring and see if you run into a couple slabs
  5. The guys up north with ice are probably the most familiar with "bass wishing" in the winter
  6. If you fish ponds it's definitely worth a shot. If there is ANY wood cover, deflect the bait off of it, usually results in a bite. I put out my own "deflection cover" because I get so many more bites if there is something to bounce the bait off of. A tiny little twig is all it takes.
  7. Chunky little guy
  8. Your "cold" water doesn't count!
  9. The micro crank bite has started for me...Only little guys but I'll run into some decent fish eventually, as long as the water stays open they'll eat these baits. Anyone else do this? The main reason I fish little cranks is that the fish are holding in 2-3' of water with lots of grass and bigger baits designed for water that shallow aren't subtle at all, and tend to get big wads of grass and algae on the hooks that won't come off when you rip it. I fish them on 6lb fluoro and a light action spinning rod. Rebel Floater 3" Rebel Teeny Wee-R
  10. What did you catch it on?
  11. Black&Blue EVERYTHING
  12. Nice fish! One heck of a kype on that buck. It was below freezing all day on friday when I fished, my guides turned into popsicles and chafed my 6lb fluoro so bad that I had to re-spool for the next day! I like drifting mini spawn bags (that I make with eggs from stocked trout) under little balsa floats and pretending that I'm steelhead fishing ...
  13. WOW! Do you catch them while bass fishing or do you target trout? Do they fight pretty good or just squirm and thrash?
  14. Duck and goose are both very good eating, as long as you DON'T OVERCOOK IT! A simple way to do it is cook it like country fried steak, but my favorite way is wrapped in bacon, stuffed with bell peppers, onions, and sausage, grilled. If your buddy gave you diver ducks.......uhhhhhhhh.....good luck!
  15. Slingshots, blowguns with 6lb test tied to the dart (kind of like bowfishing), bow & arrow, pellet guns, .22, fishing rods, gigs.....They all end up sizzling in some hot oil!
  16. I'm pretty sure this wasn't a brood stock fish fresh off the truck, I was fishing a section listed as "Trophy Trout Water" (not anywhere near central VA). It's only a matter of time before I stumble upon a 5lb stubby-finned-football brood stock fish in one of the creeks around here though. I don't understand why some creeks in other areas of the state get so many brood fish, you would think the DGIF would distribute them more evenly.
  17. Biggest fish would either be a giant stingray or a 6' blacktip, but I like to call my 51lb cobia my biggest fish, swam up to the boat and I pitched a 2oz bucktail on its nose---WHAM!. I have landed Amberjack over 51lbs too but the cobia is what I tell people about when they ask
  18. In lakes around here they usually get white/silver bellies and green or even blue backs if they have been in there for a couple weeks, is that what your fish look like?
  19. One time I was catching some crappies that were schooled up, I was using a 1/32oz jighead with a 1" curly tail and catching them on every cast, this lady who had been standing 50 yards away comes and stands about a foot away from me, without saying a word, and starts tossing a 3" curly tail on a 1/4oz jighead and is confused as to why she couldn't catch anything, I moved down the bank a bit and found more fish, she came over and did the same thing but this time asked what I was using. I told her exactly what I had but I guess it didn't really "click". I put about 10 crappies on her stringer and she headed home. Gotta kill them with kindness
  20. Fished a C&R artificial only stream today, I landed my biggest rainbow to date @ 20.5" and almost 4lbs. Absolutely a gorgeous trout, probably one of the prettiest fish I have ever landed. The pictures are good but the coloration of this fish in person was amazing. I doubt it was a wild fish but I assume it had been in the creek for quite some time and was in good condition.
  21. Says "the video has been removed by the user"
  22. Were you fishing spring-influenced water? Those are some SOLID bass! And to catch them right now in WV is amazing.
  23. It's in a pond so I had access to the deepest water from the bank. Most small ponds are the same way, if it's super cold just fish the deepest water with a float-n-fly, if your hands don't freeze off you can catch some good fish. On a warming trend in the winter, bass can definitely be reachable from shore.
