  1. The catfish leg bounce had me wincing!!! Nice video
  2. Just about knocked the rod out of my hands when he hit it! That's how a southern smallmouth is shaped Dwight
  3. I caught a stocked trout on powerbait once, he was only 7 or 8" long and in my opinion not worth keeping for food but had swallowed the hook so I cut the line, I didn't think he would last long but a injured trout that size would be bass candy so I didn't feel bad. I retied, tossed my rig back out, and the next fish I caught was that same trout. I decided he had a death wish and kept him that time.
  4. Did some kayak fishing today. Did pretty well! Between my friend and I we easily landed 75-100 bass, most of them being smallmouth in the 8-13" range, but we caught a few nice largemouth as well. Biggest fish of the day 3.3lb, one of the prettiest largemouth I have ever caught. Watched him swim out of a laydown and eat my jig! A little swimbait love too Brown One Fish were caught on squarebills, texas rigged creatures and worms, wacky rigged trick worms and senkos (wacky jighead), spinnerbaits, and an s-waver. The bait of the day from around noon til 5 when we left was a stupid little 4" t-rigged senko with a 1/16oz bullet weight. Fished it just like a ned rig. Not the most interesting way to fish but we sure did get a lot of bites.
  5. X-rap, 1/4oz redeye shad, and KVD 1.0 have caught trout for me.
  6. It has a lot of shoreline for 8 acres!
  7. Long casts and light line
  8. Drop shot all the pilings, cast to the corner posts on docks if you need to fish fast, and skip a jig up under it if they aren't holding near the edges. The difference between having the drop shot land 2 feet from the post and 2 inches from the post can be shocking in terms of how many bites you will get.
  9. You can add a pound since it was caught from a kayak
  10. The power of live bait is pretty incredible
  11. In 2-3 hours one morning last September throwing a BBZ 8" and a 6" Bull Shad (didn't have a scale) I caught three 18" largemouth, a 19" largemouth, a 20" largemouth, and a 21" largemouth. While 2 guys in a canoe throwing wacky senkos (who told me my bait was too big) watched and didn't get bit. Watched every fish eat the bait, and the 21" largemouth hit so close to my kayak that I had to hit free spool so I could net him. Left the river and shot a limit of dove.
  12. Storm Arashi Squarebills. I whack the bass on KVD 1.5s and 1.0s but I can't catch a darned thing on an arashi.
  13. Dang, thought no one else knew about that rock pile...Judging from the pic you were right over top of it when you took this . We caught our first fish over 16" right there last time too.
  14. 6 or 8lb Power Pro and 6lb fluoro leader
  15. Did a short float on the little river by my house. Caught a couple smallmouth, half a dozen largemouth, and even a fallfish. All on a Cavitron Buzzbait, the 1/4oz caught smallies and the 3/8oz caught largemouth. I stopped by a pond on my way out and hooked a giant kitty on the cavitron but he pulled off!
  16. <1lb Unless the water is below 50 degrees I hate these fish 1-2lbs Average, enjoyable unless I have to use a wacky senko to catch them 2-3lbs If I find a place where that is the average, I'm never fishing anywhere else 3-5lbs Solid fish, I'm excited now 5lbs and up only bite when I don't have scales with me
  17. 12-14" are the ones I eat (I very rarely eat bass at all). They are excellent fried, as are 12-14" largemouth. Bleed them and ice them quickly.
  18. My dad got me started at a very young age. I think I started going on smallmouth canoe trips on the James River with him and my uncle when I was 6, very good memories. The ol' texas rigged hula grub is as good for smallies now as it was then! He may fish freshwater once a month nowadays, the only stuff he gets excited about are when we go to the beach with our boat and wreck fish or troll offshore. I have the bug way too badly to be selective about what I fish for. I have a friend in Maryland who completely got into the sport by himself. I met him when he was a freshman in high school after he had only fished for two years, and he is one of the best anglers at my age that I know.
  19. AND, rubber mesh does provide a strong enough surface for a fish to use to flop out of the net and back into the water. Be mindful
  20. I'm 17, fortunately my iPhone doesn't keep me away from the bass. I rarely go a day without at least an hour of fishing. There are a few fish bums my age, but definitely a rare breed.
  21. I would go super early and throw a buzzbait. The bass will sit right up on top of the shallow grass and along weed edges, you should hammer them.
  22. C&R proven once again. This is the fish from my profile photo that I caught 2 years ago, I'm shocked she is still alive, this is a REALLY old bass, her head is massive and she's very skinny, I'm thinking this fish might get one more spawn in but that's it. My brothers and I have caught her a few times over the years, (one of her pec fins has always been chopped in half so she's very recognizable) this fish normally doesn't look that rough, especially the one time we caught her pre-spawn. Drop shotting a 4.5" yum sharpshooter. 6lb fluorocarbon leader. 24" only 5.35lbs. Hasn't grown an inch from the time I got her 2 years ago.
  23. Had a pretty spectacular evening today. I'll let the pictures do the talking. Best 5 were 3.69lbs, 3.06lbs, 3.02lbs, 2.95lbs, and 2.33lbs. Three were on a senko with a wacky jighead, and two were on a 3/8oz Cavitron. An absolute blast! Public water by the way guys, I'm not on some magic farm pond
  24. Couple three pounders from my latest outing. River rose about 3' over night but since it's a tailwater, the reservoir kept the muddy water from making its way into the river. Made for a killer spinnerbait bite, tons of fun!
