  1. I'm still trying to figure out how I was hooking trout in the belly and gill plate while drifting artificial salmon eggs. My brother caught an 18" wild brown drifting an egg in the bottom of a deep, slow pool. Hook was right in his belly
  2. I have had several people try to scare off my brothers and I when we fish docks on local lake with lots of boat docks. They all have the same little spiel about "you can't be within 50' of a dock" and they sometimes threaten to call the police. "Ma'am I would be happy to wait for an officer to get here so he can tell me what I'm doing wrong".....At that point they realize we aren't going to be scared off and leave us alone.
  3. Did you measure it? Those fish look like they could be their own species haha. "Micropterus Grosso"
  4. Finesse worm or tube. Maybe a blade if you don't mind losing some. If you need to figure out whether or not there are even fish there, a live shiner will find them
  5. Caught this striper a few summers ago on my kayak. I was trolling a 6XD, thought I was hung on a rock at first, and then for most of the fight I was pretty certain it was a big cat, but this was a pleasant surprise!
  6. I heard neon pink rattle traps consistently catch 10+lb bass all the time
  7. Hey don't doubt the rebel minnow
  8. I fished the top in 40 to 50 feet of water this weekend.
  9. I saw a Cumara for $159.97...
  10. \ Two Wright & McGill cranking rods for $4.71 each 75% off clearance. They retail at $90. Thank you DSG
  11. Probably a Fat Albert in a smoke color with silver flakes on a 1/8oz strike king football shakey head. Put me anywhere in the country, at any time of year, with any water clarity, for any of the 3 black bass, and I can probably catch some on that.
  12. First bass I ever caught on an a-rig knocked slack into the line in 50 degree water, the wire had a kink in it from when he hit.
  13. YES. This can be a good thing if you are just covering water (I love working a bank with a spinnerbait because it acts like a trolling motor), but if you are trying to work a spot or group of fish, not so much.
  14. I fish from a kayak so my experience with casting the rig is limited, because if I'm on a school of fish it's better to troll back and forth over them. I do know that when they hit it, the rod just about comes out of your hands. I'm all about learning new techniques and the rig is something I haven't grown comfortable with yet so the fun for me is figuring it out. The people who say it's unfair probably love to winch a fish out of a laydown on a flipping stick.
  15. And we know where there are PLENTY of dink bass for the big girls to eat
  16. My TW order came in on Friday. A pointer 78, a picasso a-rig, and a ton of keitech swing impacts. They tear easy but those things friggin' work. Caught fish on everything within 24hrs of arrival
  17. My parents quit paying for direct tv a few years ago so I don't really watch fishing shows (not complaining, I do a lot more productive things with my time now!). I really like following youtube channels though. I will say Spanish Fly was probably my favorite fishing show ever, no screaming and yelling when they caught fish, very informative, great camera work, and the products they advertised were Shimano so I want to get that stuff anyways (and they didn't push it like most shows do where they make a whole episode about one product). RIP Jose Wejebe
  18. Get him a 4" BBZ shad, I bet they would eat that. All you gotta do is crank it
  19. It's hard to be excited about one 3lb fish when you watch dozens that size and larger swim under your kayak all day. The power plant wasn't generating much, and now I know what it's like when the guys on the Tennessee river lakes say "they ain't pullin' enough water so the fish ain't bitin'".
  20. My friend and I went to a power plant lake on Saturday with our kayaks. We fished dark 30 to dark 30...Landed 49 largemouth between the two of us, and 5 stripers (three of them over the 20" size limit). We may have set a record for most baits used to catch largemouth in one day. Bass were caught on: Keitech 4" swing impact, Keitech 4.8" swing impact, Zara Spook, Lucky Craft Pointer, Drop shot, wacky trick worm, ned rig, alabama rig, shakey head, and wacky senko. No matter what we did, we could see lots of nice fish, and only caught small fish. But it's January so I can't complain! All of the stripers were caught trolling with alabama rigs when we found a large area with sporadic schooling largemouth on top, we would just troll until fish started breaking and then cast to them. My only "nice" one of the day. 19" on a 4" keitech swing impact on a 1/8th oz jighead. You can tell it's a shad/herring chaser from its body structure. Not quite like a bluebasser hybrid, but it's a start! Today I went to a neighborhood lake for an hour an caught 4 small ones on a shad rap, I haven't forgotten how to catch them in cold water!
  21. I can't wrap my head around that fish on the squarebill. FAT
  22. I'm a better buzzbait fisherman than you because I fish from a kayak. The difference between having a buzzbait paralleled within a foot of the bank or a piece of structure *cover* versus throwing straight at it and bringing it back out is huge. I can cover hundreds of yards of bank while staying within a rods length of the bank the whole time, this has produced lots and lots of fish for me. I fish my buzzbait exactly how I do with my big swimbaits, giving the bass something to pin it against. It works!
  23. "We've got the buck bass on the beds, and the females staging on the first break, but I'm currently fishing a pattern for what we call the inbetweeners."
  24. But it's January, they all count don't they?
