  1. I only fish shakey heads with straight tail worms, every plastic besides that is usually on a t-rig. If I'm fishing from the bank and/or in a very snaggy area I will use a t-rig so I don't get hung up as much. A shakey head loves to roll over and sink into a tree limb when you try and pull it over. I think shakey heads keep fish pinned better too
  2. Salmon Peach Powerbait is all the rage with the stock truck followin' 12lb test 1/2oz weight plunkin' folks around here haha. Seriously, I work at Gander Mountain and we are stocking several hundred jars of that color on the shelves this spring, one guy has already placed 20 jars on hold for himself. I quit using dough and went to power eggs a while ago, they are hard to find but way easier to use and IMO catch more fish.
  3. In VA we don't have a closed trout season so I've been catching since the water levels and temps "got right" in October . The only baits I use are Berkley Power Eggs (almost exclusively drifted in streams and rivers with as few split shot as I can get away with), Trout Magnets with 1/64-1/16oz heads, and sometimes Gulp minnows on 1/32-1/8oz heads in big water.... I would REALLY reccomend these baits. 2lb is the only mono I fish, 4-6lb seguar red label fluoro is great too.
  4. I doubt the marks are from spawning activity. Nice fish!
  5. I once caught a big green sunfish, released him, and he swam out about 3' to rest in the current. I cast to him again and WHAM he hit the bait again. I cracked up and tossed him back after a photo, this time he swam back to the stump he came from. Next cast WHAM, low and behold it was the same green sunfish, He had two "black spot" parasites on his gillplate and the photos matched so I know it was the same fish. Those guys are crazy. A quote from a guy I fish with is "I've actually caught more green sunfish on musky lures than muskies on musky lures"
  6. Nikko Worm (Japanese Company). Flat out fish catching bait. From the nose to the end of the ribbing is an air pocket so it stands straight up and quivers with any line movement. Since when you rig it you pop the hook in one side of the air pocket but not through the other, it's very weedless and doesn't hang up. I fish them IN beaver huts. Made of something similar to elaztech so one bait will last you 30-50 bass, and they are biodegradable. There aren't any more in stock after I bought most of them at a fishing expo but the website is itsumofishing.com if you wanna try and get your hands on some. Fair warning you won't want to use anything else afterwords.
  7. The plumbing commercial with Mike Tyson was by far my favorite https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RO4IRuCJcM4
  8. I work at a Gander Mountain, these things are flying off the shelves. I have zero desire to purchase one, seems silly to me. I'll stick with my $6 pad crasher.
  9. I have LOTS of these This may be my favorite ever....Really awesome colors. This one is just sickening to look at as I look at this Saturday's high of 28 and low of 8. This was 40 miles offshore in North Carolina but worth sharing. That's me on the bow...I was in awe for the entire morning. Then the mahi and tuna started biting Anna in the winter is usually this spectacular every morning and evening
  10. Gotta love power plant lakes. It's like a perpetual fall bite.
  11. If it is a swimbait I bet it will be tiny. They have to catch fishermen not fish.
  12. Figured we should have one of these, bass aren't always the target species. I caught a few stripers and largemouth on Lake Anna the other day. Good fun as always, finally got some fish to eat those 2015 Bassmaster Classic Hype Baits.
  13. Straight 20lb fluoro I don't like using braid but I will for frogs and heavy vegetation. A knot and a leader is just another spot for something to go wrong. With all the pressure that goes into a hookset and getting a bass away from whatever he is in while pitching/flipping I just don't have much faith in it.
  14. You think they have ever seen a hudd, glide, or wakebait?
  15. I've caught many bass with one gill arch hanging completely out from behind their gill plate. They are tough fish.
  16. I've thought about fishing from my kayak in a high school tournament this spring just because I know I could do it since so many fish get released at the ramps in spring and I wouldn't have to go anywhere. The guys at Kentucky lake should keep that in mind haha. Last April the top 2 bags of the tournament were caught by the only two boats who blew their motors and had to fish on the TM all day. If that says anything.
  17. Hot Side Lake Anna because it keeps me sane in the winter. Edit: I have a bigger reason than that to appreciate it now
  18. That makes way more sense. $3 is cheaper than most ramp fees haha. We might have to start calling everything a pay lake. I bet you can find someplace with more crappie than that. Just do some exploring when they are on the beds.
  19. Isn't there a warm water discharge called four mile run?
