  1. I'm interested in a review too. Let us know what you think.
  2. I believe the Shimano is a much better baitcaster than the Abu. I've owned both, still own the Chronarch but sold the STX because it just didn't feel to be on par with the other reels I own. BTW, I'm a Daiwa fan.
  3. I choose to use the Duckett White Ice Velvick Casting Rod 7'11" Heavy for swimbaits, It is a great rod and does the job very well but the problem is I'm not much on throwing big swimbaits so I don't use it a whole bunch. Here in La. we have way to many cypress tree's to flip and pitch around, so swimbaits are not fished quite as much as other states. I'm more of a flipping/punching person myself. So I'm not really sure how much I can help you with your questions, The Duckett is an amazing swimbait rod though. Try it out and see for yourself.
  4. I guess we will just have to agree to disagree on the frog fishing. You can't "just reel them in" after a blow up. There is more of an art to frog fishing than Senko fishing. While I LOVE Senko fishing it is an easy way to fish but I do not see it being easier than chunk and reel. To me the easiest way of fishing is a spinnerbait. Throw it out and reel it in, can't get much easier. To me low level fishing is spinnerbaits, crankbaits, swimbait, buzzbaits and other chunk and reel type fishing where the fish will set the hook for you on most all hits, just throw it out and reel it in, atleast with Texas rig's, jigs, Senkos, flukes and frogs you have to work the bait and then set the hook. There is nothing like feeling that bite on a Senko and reeling down to set the hook, while wondering just how big this one might be, it is a very exciting time.
  5. I find it very funny that people think fishing Senko's is any different than fishing flukes, Texas rigs, jigs and other baits. It is my favorite way of Bass fishing and I am so happy to hear people use it as a last resort, that may explain why I've won so many tournaments fishing Senko's. The most boring way of fishing is chunk and reel, I hate it, throw out a spinnerbait or crankbait and reel it in and cover water, after a 100 cast you may catch a couple of bass. It is much better to find a grass line that is holding bass and start flipping a jig or a senko. P.S. The most fun you will have catching Bass this time of year would be on topwater frogs, IMO. Work the frog in the thick stuff and when you have a blow up, wait a few seconds until you feel the fish and then set the hook. Frog fishing takes some practice, it is hard to get a good hook set until you have worked at it a while. You will get it though just keep practicing. Frogs are much tougher to fish than baits like spinnerbaits that pretty much set the hook for you but they are well worth it. Very exciting to see a big Bass blow up on a frog.
  6. The Denali Kovert is a nice rod for its price, the only thing that bothers me about it is that it is a very tip heavy rod. The Denali Rosewood is a nice line of rods that do not have the same tip heavy feeling. Powell makes great fishing rods too. The *** is a good line of rods if you can get past the handle, which hurts my hand but if you are comfortable with it then it would be a good fishing rod. The one I like the best is the Duckett White Ice rods but there are many nice rods in your price range to choose from.
  7. Nice review. Thanks.
  8. I am not a Quantum fan but I do have a 7'0" MH Quantum Smoke Rod that I've had for over 2 years. I've boat flipped 4# bass with it and I've yet to have any trouble with it. I bought it because of a sale. For $75.00 I figured I would try it out. It isn't that bad of a rod, light and pretty sensitive too. It isn't a White Ice by no means but few rods are......
  9. I've never used the GLoomis but the way all of the guys keep talking that Brand up I'm going to have to try them soon, I hope they are not as big of a let down as Dobyn's was. I'm sure everyone know's what I will list......Duckett White Ice is the best I've used so far but I'm going to be buying a GLoomis very soon. I'll have to see what everyone who has used them has to tell me first though.
  10. Awesome looking red, white and blue reel there. I'll be placing an order.
  11. I have both and I feel that the Tatula is much better
  12. I'm not laughing at you, The Tatula is a hell of a Reel
  13. No question in my book. Daiwa Zillion
  14. Duckett 7'3" Heavy White Ice Daiwa Tatula Type-R
  15. Well, I guess you can say I don't run with the crowd. Almost 90% of the post I see with any ones name I expect to see the name Dobyn's in it. I'm just like everyone else who has to name what they like and that just happens to be the best I've ever used.
  16. Quantum has some good stuff, I do not dislike Quantum, I just like Daiwa better. I own three or four Quantum reels, a Smoke 150 a few Energy's and some of the KVD reels. I also own a couple of Smoke Rod's. The Problem is I just don't fish with it. It sits in my game room on the rack unless my Son goes fishing with me and then his favorite set up is the Quantum Smoke rod and reel.
  17. A long time ago I wanted to buy my first high end Fishing Rod too. I was excited and read a ton of stuff on line about fishing rods. After I bought my first one I just couldn't Stop and soon after I had Fishing rods from almost every maker of rods there was. I tried them all except for MegaBass and GLoomis (I'll soon be trying those) For $200 there a lot of great fishing rods you can try, You need to go somewhere that has a lot of the different brands and hold a bunch of them but not just hold them, get the store to mount the reel you will be using to some of the ones you number it down to, because the rod will feel different once you mount the reel. The best rod I've used, (IMO) Is the Duckett White Ice line but there are some other great Rod's such as Powell, Denali, St Croix, Falcon, ***, Kistler and many more. If you can though, check out the Duckett White Ice line of rod's, you will be happy that you did.
  18. At the regular price there is much better but at $100.00 I would buy it
  19. I use a Duckett White Ice 7'3" Heavy with a Shimano Chronarch 200E7. I use 65# Power Pro braid and I have yet to find a better Frog set-up. I've pretty much come to the conclusion that their isn't one.
  20. That is good the hear. Duckett has some of the best rods made with the best service around.
  21. I would also recommend this rod for the $150.00 price range, unless you can find a 7'0" Heavy Duckett Micro Magic in your price range.
  22. Duckett White Ice 7'11" Heavy
  23. You are miss understanding what I said. They are very nice rod's, no doubt about it but you really don't want to compare them to a White Ice rod. That wouldn't be fair to the Crucial, it is a night and day difference there. Now when you go Ghost VS Crucial, it is a fair compairison. OP, It is always fun to buy and try different things. I think you made the right choice and I also think you will enjoy that fishing rod.
  24. You should be fine, the Shimano rods are good rods. The Ghost is also a very good rod but while I am a big time Duckett fan I will admit I do not like the line guides on the Duckett Ghost Rod's. I think you will be happy with your choice, it is the perfect length imo for worm fishing and it is also a nice fishing rod.
