  1. All three of those are great reel's. I do not think that any one of those will cast less than you would ever need for it to cast. If I were you, I would go to the store and hold them all and see which one I liked the best and just go with it because I really believe you would be very happy with any of the three you listed.
  2. The reel seat on the Exo's has rivets in it and after a while they become loose and then the reel will fall off of the rod. I personally do not like the ACS system that Quantum uses but the Exo reel doesn't have that. Really the only problem I know of on that reel is the rivets. My fishing partner bought one and he returned it shorty after because of the rivets falling out, he replaced it and soon had the same problem, he then traded it for a Shimano reel and never looked back. I think it is a good reel except for that problem but it is a very big problem so I couldn't see buying one for the price they cost with rivets in the reel seat.
  3. Thanks for letting us know. I think I will get one to try myself. I have been thinking about trying out the winn grips and almost bought a Hammer rod just to try that grip. This will be a much better price just to see how good the grip is, so thanks.
  4. I am using a Duckett White Ice 7'1" Medium Heavy with fast action. It has a very soft tip but good back bone and it works really well for the scrounger / skinny dipper combo's I like fishing.
  5. I use a snell knot 100% on straight shank hooks.
  6. I am very sorry I did not get back to this thread until now. I had some family problems, my father had a heart attack and things have been hard for a while. He is doing much better now though and I am able to slow down a little. Thank you all for the replies and Yes, I was feeling guilty about getting such a great deal. I did go back by and I talked with the lady's husband. He did know she was selling it for such a low price and the reason was because their son was in a four wheeler wreck and had broken his leg. They were in need of money. I tried to give the man another $100 but he would not take it, after talking for a while he did take another $40.00. I had the money to give so I was glad to help out and I got a very nice rod and reel to boot. For some reason I still do not feel like it was enough money though. My wife said I was not cut out for the yard sale life but I told her it seemed more to me to be a take advantage of some ones bad luck sale and I couldn't do it, she said that is why she loves me.

    Bought at Garage Sale

Team Lew's reel and Carrot Stix 21 carrot gold rod.
  8. I went with my Wife last Saturday to Yard sales and I was very happy that I did. I found a 7'6" Heavy carrot Stix 21 carrot gold rod with a Team Lew's reel on it. I took the combo up to the lady and talked with her about it, she told me that her husband had told her to get it out and sell it because they needed the money. She was telling me she would sell it to me for $75.00 and after thinking about it I gave her $100.00 for the combo and brought it home. Now that it is home and I've went over it and seen just how good it is, I'm talking almost brand new quality, I'm starting to have second thoughts about it, I feel like the lady was ripped off, I mean a $280.00 reel and a $200.00 rod and I bought it for $100.00? So my question is should I bring them some more money for the combo? And if you agree with me that it is worth more, then how much more should I bring them? Thanks and I look forward to your replies.
  9. I feel that bluebasser86 is correct. The Ethos are not bad rods for the price and them might be worth looking into if you were wanting a BPS rod then I think they could fill those shoes. The Duckett Ghostt cranking rods are very nice too and they can be had a good price. I looked the new Veritas 2.0 rods over at the local BPS and I was surprised by what I seen. The handles were not lines up right on many rods and the line guides were way off. They looked very bad and I really wonder how those made it onto the shelf. If you buy one look it over really well before you get it.
  10. I 100% agree with this.
  11. I would have to disagree with the others posting here. IMO, those rods are pure junk. The local tackle shop here at Toledo Bend had a sale on those rod's, buy 1 get one at half price. My son in law and I bought a couple and on our next fishing trip, I broke both of mine and my son in law broke one of his on hook set's. We went by the store and traded the broken rods out and on the next fishing trip we both broke another one. I didn't even bother trading the unbroken one out and gave it to my uncle, he told me with in a few trips that rod broke also. I would not give them $10.00 for those rod's, I still have two broken rod's sitting in my wash room.
  12. I'm impressed, Was a great review with good info that can be used. Thanks!!
  13. I like my Type-R a little better but only because of the color. Everyone is right on the money though, you really can't tell a difference between the Type-R and the Regular Tatula. I sold My Curado I and kept my Tatula's because I thought they felt better, plus I hated the side plate button on the Curado I.
  14. No chance I will ever buy another Halo and I for sure wouldn't touch one that cost that much. I made the mistake of buying a Halo Twilite and that was money wasted. The rod felt dead and really, really cheap feeling. I fished with it for five or so trips and then traded it to a guy for a Duckett Ghost and felt that the $99.00 Ghost was much better. Halo really let me down on that one because I had wanted one for months and just decided to order it one night. Never again will I buy a fishing rod sight unseen.
  15. I would have to agree that the Daiwa Tatula is by far a better reel than both of those.
  16. That Lew's Team Gold is a very solid reel. It is well refined and smooth both on casting and reeling. The frame is solid and palms easy. Both are good reels so you really can't go wrong but I believe the Lew's is better and it cost less, so you can't get a great reel and save a little cash.
  17. Right now you can find Duckett Micro Magic rod's for $99.00 with free shipping. You can not beat that rod for that price. I would go with the 7'0" Heavy for Frogging.
  18. A great deal of that sensitivity is going to come from the Line you are using. If you use Fluorocarbon and a Tungsten weight, it will add volumes to sensitivity on Texas-rig's/Jig's.
  19. At $99.00 the Duckett Micro Magic is unbeatable.
  20. I will be trying out the new Zillion as soon as it is released.
  21. DTack, I don't take the bait any more on the Dobyn's, so you guys can chill out, I could care less. Any way you ask for the store info and I sent it all to you in a PM.
  22. Well, each one of us has our favorite company's and ANY rod can break. The local boat marina store here quit selling Dobyn's rods because he was sick to death of replacing all of the broken rod's. (any one wanting to call the store and ask the owner can PM me for the store name, The owner will tell what a nightmare of broken rod's) I'm sure that doesn't make any one not want a Dobyn's though, just as any other rod, they can and do break. The Duckett Rod's have a 20 year warranty and they stand behind that so I would say they believe in their rods. Also you're saying that the Duckett rods are nothing more than a carrot stick? OK, so that would mean a Dobyn's is nothing more than a Powell Max rod too then right? If you skip out on Duckett rods, you may be missing the best fishing rod you would have ever owned. The rods are well worth the money and some of the best on the market but you need to decide that for yourself, do not take my opinion that they are really great and do not take the other guys opinion that they are super bad, make that decision for yourself and just enjoy Bass fishing.
