  1. Agreed. I recently took a dip on 40* water when mine decided not to autodeploy when unloading. They are very voltage sensitive and when on the water it can turn a great day into a nightmare.
  2. I like the Bass Mafia stuff but have been adding a lot of the Academy boxes here lately and am really pleased. I like the double sided ones, especially for separating my 1/4 and 1/2oz lipless on there own sides.
  3. Just a friendly reminder to Ulterra owners as we start the fishing season: - make sure batteries are up to par as these are voltage sensitive - clean and lube belt/shaft - check and/or regrease thread rod under sideplate *** Last but not least, if it has sat for months and you decide to go fishing at 6am with an air temp of 20* and water temp of 40*, do not assume it will autodeploy when launching your boat by yourself. Don't ask me how I know this! 🏊‍♂️🥶

  4. Lived there until I turned 32 and ran quickly to NC. I love it here and do not miss living in the Chicago burbs. The only thing I miss is the food and constant sports news/tv. If I was sent to live in the north woods of Wisconsin, I would do so gladly. My NC wife says the same and she loves her home state.
  5. Curious as to how you did. If I can get a new cranking battery before the weekend I want to go out, probably to High Rock.
  6. Hello from Yadkinville, NC!
  7. The wife and I decided to try something new yesterday. We made crappie California rolls and they were really good. This was our first time doing so and now she is looking for a class to teach us how to make sushi and rolls correctly. Our rice wasn't sticking well enough. We got the idea from fishnmore on youtube.
  8. I caught a 43" musky on a weightless Berkley Pit Boss. I have also caught some of t-rigged tubes.
  9. I was thinking about heading up there in May to try something new so I will be following...
  10. I get my paints from Hobby Lobby and try to wait for the 40% off to hit. I started with the Harbor Freight Avanti kit and quickly bought a badger which made a world of difference. I bought a bunch of cheap exacto knives and use the "pen" to hold lures. I sit them in a 4x4 block that I drilled holes into. Walmart has some color changing acrylics that I really like but you need to thin them out a ton and add about 2-3x the layers to achieve a good effect. I also use uv resin instead of spray clears, dipping or epoxy. The fabric store has all sorts of materials for scaling patterns. Practice...practice....practice. Do this on a poster board or even paper grocery bags to see how air pressure and trigger control changes how the paints lays down. It's a great time consuming and mental break!
  11. Deep dish is a tourist fad. Don't get me wrong, it's delicious (I am a Giordanno guy), but true Chicago pizza is thin and crispy. I prefer mine to be cut into squares.
  12. Growing up in the Chicago burbs, I really miss food. I have daily cravings for Portillos, gyros, shoot just a basic hotdog. Things foodwise just aren't the same here in NC. I like the bbq here but everything else doesn't compare. My wife thought I was crazy when we met but all that changed after her first visit to Chicago. Now, she craves it more rhan I do sometimes! Topic wise, I stand by the whole southerners can't drive thing and don't even start complaining about the humidity to me. Most don't understand that late July/August is super humid and temps are sometimes 100* (90s are normal) in the midwest. All in all, I wouldn't ever move back to Illinois, Wisconsin maybe.
  13. cedarunoutdoors alternativelures sugartitcustomlures I have placed orders from the 3 above and have been very happy with the service and quality. They also have the best "normal" and/or prices that I have found. Shipping with all is appropriate as well.
  14. I use uv resin and I coat the bill as well so...
  15. I prefer Falls, mostly because I have fished it the most. I haven't spent much time on the other two.
  16. Worms under a bobber...make them dress the hooks and touch the fish. In the immortal words of my grandfather: "It'll put hair on their chest!"
  17. If you go the dremel route wear glasses. I have found that cutting certain plastics toss small bits everywhere and be aware as for a split second, that plastic can get hot enough to burn your skin. I found that out the hard way.
  18. I've been debating on getting one or two to build a long wall storage system for combining my bait making and woodworking hobbies. A miter saw station would also double well for building rods me thinks.
  19. I used to make the trip to Hartwell every year with my 18.5' G3, I thought it was great for that lake. Now my son and wife tag along and I even pull a tube sometimes when I want to toss them off the boat. My wife feels more safe with the higher gunnels.
  20. I bought some Liv2Fish ones and like them a lot more than the mesh ones. Yes, they are tricky at time to get on easily (not bad in reality) but I like them more for a few reasons: - float - reel strap - roll up and velcro rather than snake everywhere - don't hang up on rod guides at all in rod tubes (occasionally I would have this happen with mesh) - no stuck hooks or guides popping through - more rod tip protection - heavy enough not to fly off rod going down the road/lake
  21. I made on for an old Skeeter out of lexan and a heat gun. I made a rough frame out of some 1x lumber, routed the edges and let the lexan drape around it. I then use the heat gun with a scrap one by to bend/stretch small areas. When I had it the way I wanted I cut to fit the lines on the console and used factory screw holes to mount.
  22. I think that is what I am going to do. Thanks!
  23. Those of you who like the flashy swimmer, how important do you think the free swing of the blade is (connection to lead)? The reason I ask is I am about to modify a jig mold to pour my own but was going to cast the wire into the lead. Now I am rethinking it.
  24. My dad has a mule and I put it through the paces this weekend clearing trails, logging timber, etc. in the NC foothills and I was quite impressed!
  25. I wish it would have been taught as well. I did have a class that discussed bank accounts, balancing checkbooks, and intro to the stock market where we just picked stocks and monitored growth. What we really needed in high school was filling out job applications, setting up deductions and filing taxes. I remember that being the most confusing part of high school as I began my working/adult life. As always, thank you gentlemen!
