  1. I have a Lew's Speed Spool and it is way more reel than they charge for. Super smooth, quiet, mag brakes work well and only backlashes when I do a stupid. I throw 5/16oz up to 5/8oz on mine with 40lb Power Pro and get great distance. I've no experience with the Tatula so I can't help you there.
  2. I use the triangular stones from my Spyderco Sharpmaker. There's a small groove down one side of the stones that work great for large hooks.
  3. Forgot to add this link as well. It shows all our natural lakes by region. http://www.azgfd.gov/h_f/where_fish.shtml I haven't been to Lake Pleasant for quite a while but if I recall correctly there is a fair amount of decent bank fishing to be had. Tempe Town Lake has decent bank fishing too.
  4. Hi there and welcome to Arizona! We have an urban fishing program here so here's a link to all the lakes we have. http://www.azgfd.gov/h_f/urban_fishingPhxMap.shtml
  5. A fella gets so used to seeing them lipped out of the water they almost look strange with their mouth closed.
  6. Though in of itself it isn't odd most folks look at you weird when you say you fish the SRP canals here in Phoenix.
  7. I've never fished the east side but I've heard Chaparral Lake has some very nice bass. http://www.azgfd.gov/h_f/urban_lake_chaparral.shtml
  8. I can vouch for P-Line 100% Flouro in 4lb. I recently respooled my UL (7' Daiwa Presso/Shimano Sienna 500) with it and I'm over the moon with the switch. Knots hold great, it casts incredibly good and it stays put on that tiny little spool just fine.
  9. I'm extremely late to this conversation but can tell you that every bass I've caught in the canals has been on topwater in the evening. Rebel Pop-R, StrikePro Walking Stick, Heddon Spit'N Image and Z-Man Pop Frogs have produced well for me. Ironically the biggest bass I caught (15" I don't carry a scale) was on my ultralight Daiwa Presso/Sienna 500 using a 3/4" Matzuo Nano Crank that has just a single #16 treble (Owner hooks rock). I was fishing for bluegill but I guess there might be some truth to downsizing lures for bigger bass. I fish by 59th and T-Bird - no flow gates, just the bridge and the bass move out from under it in the evening.
