  1. Large catfish don't taste as well as the smaller ones. Large catfish have a lot of yellow fat that runs down their backs. The fat gives the catfish a stronger fishy taste.
  2. Without a boat and a fishfinder winter fishing is tough. I would use live bait. Large minnows are best.
  3. I hate having to load my kayak on my van. Once I arrive at the launch site, I hate having to transfer and secure my gear onto the kayak. Packing up and going home is no thrill if I don't get any fish.
  4. The problem was resolved. Dicks Sporting Goods does not sell the gasket for the center hatch. It can not be ordered. The gasket is specific to the Field and Stream Talon 12 kayak. The Manager at Dicks allowed me to swap out one of the floor models center hatches. He was also nice enough to let me swap out a drain plug. Mine was leaking.
  5. Thanks to everyone for responding! I'm researching the ideas and suggestions that you've posted and will be practicing tying knots to find out what type of knot works best for me.
  6. Thanks! I appreciate the advice. I was hoping someone in the forum had a kayak like mine, so I could avoid driving 45 minutes to Dicks Sporting goods. I hate driving in that direction because the cities I have to pass through, have too many red light traffic cameras. The last thing I need is to be forced to donate money to a city . Thanks again!
  7. I have a used Field & Stream Talon 12 Kayak. It set atop my van right side up for 2 days. It rained during those 2 days almost non-stop. After opening the bow hatch storage area, I found about a 1/2- 3/4 gallons of water (maybe a little more). After doing a test for water leaks I discovered the center dry area cylinder (next to the seat) leaks very heavily. Has anyone else had this problem? Is there a rubber gasket that attaches to the screw on top cylinder cap? I'm asking because maybe mine is missing the rubber gasket. Thanks in advance!
  8. Thank you! However, I was looking to use knots for now (something more economical). I do like the systems that you suggested for me. I'm already invested in a Walmart $25 tie down system. If Walmart will issue me a full refund, I will invest in something better. I should have asked people online before I purchased the Walmart tie down system. I do not like making a chore of loading and unloading my kayak. Trust me, eventually I will purchase one of the types of systems that you suggested.
  9. Hi everyone, I am seeking a safe, easy and effective knot, so I can tie down my kayak to the bow and stern. I will be traveling at highway speeds up to 70mph. Thanks in advance ! I will be watching comments but may not be able to respond quickly!
  10. Thanks everyone for your comments!
  11. Hello everyone, I live in the Polk County Florida area (Lake Wales, Winter Haven, Lakeland). I have called numerous bait shops and inquired about live crawfish and leeches. Bait shops in the area do not sell them. They do sell (expensive $8-15 a dozen) Golden Shiners, Fat Head minnows, worms, etc. Where can I purchase live Crawfish? Why are the types of bait fish for trophy bass limited to Golden Shiners? After all, there are many varieties of minnows that a bait shop can carry besides the "over the top" priced Golden Shiners. Where can I purchase minnows (not Fat Head minnows) that are at least 2-3 inches long? Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems like bait shops, promote and only carry certain expensive minnow baits (Golden Shiners) to attract the uneducated tourist that are seeking to catch the big fighting elusive record breaking Bass. Whats your thoughts?
  12. Yes, I agree, a bank/shore fishing forum would be great. By using the websites search engine for bank fishing/shore fishing, many posts are lost in the search because keywords are not always included in the original posters comments. It would make the site more user friendly for bank/shore fisherman. I like reading about fishing in general but, I also like to read about specific posts regarding bank/shore fisherman.
