  1. I can't post my favorite pair on this forum but those are some dang nice fish!
  2. I hope I didn't blow your cover Ghoti
  3. I just upgraded both of my units and went with HB. I have a 798si on the console and a 597ci di on the bow. I, too, don't know too much about the different models/brands but I believe with the Lowrance, to get side imaging, you must purchase an additional piece. Where with HB, it's all internal in one unit. And as many will say, buy as much as you can the first time.

    Ghoti

...been a long time since I have seen that term. My dad was born in Lithuania, came over when he was a child, during the war, and had to learn English. He's very fluent in both languages now but said English is the hardest to learn out of all of them, too many variables. he showed me "ghoti" when I was a kid.
  5. I just dont see that dish staying put at warp 7...
  6. I think you got it brother! Thanks for all you do! I felt bad complaining about such a trivial issue but it does make the forum more user friendly. I'll take this moment to thank you for creating such a great environment to discuss our passion. It's very friendly and comfortable here. I'd love to get together with some of you and fish. Thanks again.
  7. Sorry to hear about Copper. Losing a pet is tough. They bring us lots of joy when we need it. I like to remember that my family and I gave the pet a good life. Take care bud.
  8. I have broken the first 8 inches off 3 of them by swinging fish. And these weren't giants, we're talkin 2-3 lbers. I swing 3's all day with every other rod I own and never had an issue. I don't think I'd buy another All Star.
  9. OP, you're gonna be pumped when you first use that thing! I don't know how I ever caught a fish without one.
  10. I won a tourney on a lake I had never been on. I buy maps from these guys and really like them. http://www.fishinghotspots.com/e1/pc/showsearchresults.asp?keyWord=lake+travis remember though, the depth they show is at full pool so be careful. Subtract 50ft from all readings. What will water temps be?
  11. I noticed mine has stopped working as well
  12. I tried blades for the first time this year, on my last trip out. I was so stoked I caught 4-5 on them. The blades I bought were some home made ones off Ebay. They came without hooks so I could put the trebles I wanted on them. I added split rings. is this bad? I see most come with a split hook right on the bait. Any issue using a split ring? I used the KVD Mustad short shank ultra grip hook in a #4. 1/2 oz blade.
  13. Rage chunks. If I'm outta those, I bite off a Rage craw. If I'm outta those, I bite off a Rage lobster. If I'm outta those, I go home....
  14. Good job man! Hopefully these positive replies will help be your strength to keep it going this time! You can do eeet!
  15. This is my favorite
  16. http://www.animatedknots.com/knotlist.php?Categ=boating&LogoImage=LogoGrog.jpg&Website=www.animatedknots.com Probably so, but I see a lot of topics on braid to fluoro and wasn't sure if everyone has seen this site yet. It shows the tying process pretty well. Just in case someone missed it.
  17. ^^^Those are some nice fish Wayne.
  18. Happy T-Day to all bassers!
  19. I'm in the "go when I can" group. I also like to time a good moon too but I don't let it dictate when I can go.
  20. I have come to overlook the position of the fish. I look at the fish in comparison to the hands that hold it. I compare the size hand to the jawline/head size, then the other hand compared to the tail height. It helps take the distortion out of the picture. When you see a 2 lber held out far, with a hand the same size as the fish's head, you know it's not a 9. But when the mouth and tail dwarf the hands holding it, that's a pig.
  21. I use the braid/fluoro leader on all my rods as well. The main reason I do it is I fish lakes with tons of rock. And braid has no abrasion resistance against rock whatsoever.
  22. I'm sorry sir, no worries. What I meant was I was going to say the same thing. Great minds think alike!
  23. came in to say this
  24. I would like to warn you here that you must be very careful in how you present your idea. I had an idea for a jighead with a certain style hook on it. I, too, did not have the resources to manufacture them myself so, after searching everywhere (literally hundreds of web sites and not finding this style made), I contacted a manufacturer (name will remain undisclosed) and they asked for my video and some info on it. To this date I still have not heard back from them. This was around 4 years ago, and after numerous attempts at contacting the rep I had been in contact with. Then, lo and behold, I see my idea in a package for sale.
  25. I like the HB units myself. They seem easier to use (I have had both HB and Low). HB seem to have "all in one" units. What I mean is, if I'm not mistaken, the Lowrance units need a second piece of the puzzle, the structure scan, to have si. That HB 598ci HD di combo is a great bang for the buck if you are only going to have 1 finder. You could find one used on Craigslist for $3-400. Just make sure it comes with power cable, mount and transducer. I have a 798 si on the console and a 597ci hd di on the bow. Love em!
