  1. I have both. I love the grasshopper but the bumble bee isnt as good. Lands up side down alot and hooks tend to get wrapped on the line alot. It still works, ive caught counts perch on it, just a little annoying at times. I use the grasshopper all the time when i bring people who dont know fishing or are just learning. Mainly catch bluegill and perch but will work for bass too
  2. I am trying to get into striper fishing from the surf here in NJ. Ive done some research and it seems bucktails are the way to go. ive been looking on line to try out a few brands but it seems most sites only have vertical jigging bucktails, eyelit on the top versus being in front. Does anyone have any suggestions of brands/where to buy from online? I know of some local tackle stores but their inventory is very limited.
  3. Unfortunately thats the only rod i have to travel with ease and it can double as a pier fishing rod. You bring up a good question.....im hoping the canal ill be fishing is freshwater....never thought about this....
  4. Thanks for the great info. Wasnt sure how many responces id get since it was a broad topic but this is all very helpful. Thanks!! Crossing my fingers for a new PB when im down there now that Primetime has coached me up!!
  5. In two weeks i will be going to Naples Florida. I am flying there so can only bring my travel rod. A 7'11" h citrix 4-piece rod spooled with 50lbs braid and need to severely limit my lure selection. I will only be fishing the canals around the house when i get a free minute What baits would you suggest i bring? Right now i plan on getting some weights 1/4, 3/8, 1oz. Flippin hooks. 1 bag of trick worms, senko, beaver style bait, and a frog. I've never fished Florida or canals so any advice will help, Thanks
  6. I use the gamma touch in 5 lbs test for my UL set up. At first i hated it was so thin i kept breaking it while tying knots. Now i make sure its nice an wet when i tie and love it. Dont recall ever breaking off and i almost exculsivly split shot with this set up and crimp a split shot to it. and for a fluoro its pretty managable with some conditioner. Sensitivity is what u expect for flouro. It does have some stretch to it but nothing close to a mono id say average in terms of fluoro
  7. I am in the same situation. Im going to flo in april and didnt want to travel with a full rod. Went With the okuma citrix 4 piece travel rod for 100 bucks. Looks like a good rod but havent used it yet. But the best part is it comes with a nice travel case already no need to buy seperatly. i went with the 7'11" heavy and will have it as a pier/inlet fishing rod. Please note, this is a casting rod, dont know if okuma makes a spinning version, never looked.
  8. Hey any advice for fishing in Naples in early April? looks like snook, tarpon, spanish mackerel, and jack carvelle are peak targets i know its kind of a broad questions but im looking for any advice, spots, lures, baits etc get as detailed or as simple as youd like anything will help unfortunately ill only have one combo with me since i gotta fly, an okuma citrix 360 on an okuma citrix 7'11" H travel rod with 50 lbs braid tied on. Please keep this in mind
  9. I just bought a kistler helium 3 off the flea matkrt here. Havent gotten to use it but have bern messing around with it inside and so far seems to be worth it my slight concern is ive noticed when i load the rod up the line rubs against the blank. Should this be a concern?? Has anyone ese noticed this on their kistler rods?? Any input would be great thanks!
  10. Thanks thats kind of what i thought, just thought id throw the question out there any way
  11. I have been looking into the new enigma arron edge spinning rods, like the foregrip look and the microwave guides. There aren't too many reviews on them so i have been doing my own research. Does anyone have more info on their blancks they use? All i can find is that they are high strain jap carbon fiber, and I dont really know how to interpret this. Not looking for reviews just some thoughts/info about their blancks thanks!
  12. I call it "First Cast Syndrome". For some reason my first cast is always a gamble whether it be getting a birds nest, getting snagged, or losing a lure. So what i do now is my first cast with a new lure is always a short cast to open water. Ive found this helps a ton, because now i get a feel for the lure, its weight n flight so i can be more accurate when i actually cast.
  13. Ive had my eye on the castaway skeleton v2 since it came out. Im not one to jump on a new product, want to wait for some feedback first. Its been out for some time now and i cant find much info on it. Has anyone fished these rods? i would like to invest in something a little nicer this year (only spend about $100 on rods currently) and the fact that the skeleton v2 is a rainshadow rev blank is quite tempting. (But its only 30 ton graphite i recently foundout) my main concern is that the lower budget rods are so competitive the are incorporating higher end components and the jump from a $100 rod to a $190 isn't that big. I could be wrong on this just my thoughts
  14. No, I bought it used and the guy before me had a trolling motor on board and i just never removed it
  15. Looking into a rod to handle primarily 1/4oz t rigs to pair with my Curado I. Im looking at 7 foot MH fast or extra fast, seems to be the best fit for this application. As of now im planning on getting a thirteen n-y 7'1 mh xf for this application. Ive read they fish heavier then their rating. If youve used this rod could u let my know ur thoughts? Feel free to post what you use for this application as well if you have no experience with that particular rod. Thanks!
