  1. Agree! Johnson in Collierville or Germantown?
  2. Caught a few bass in the extreme heat last weekend at Herb Parsons on a black/blue jig. They were holding in the rip rap at the dam. Best was just under 4 lbs. But I wouldn't recommend a metal jon boat in that kind of heat!
  3. Thanks guys! Life got in the way and I had to cancel, but I'll file your suggestions away for next time.
  4. I'm heading to the Spring River in AR this weekend to chase a smalljaw or two. Any suggestions for lures to throw at them?
  5. My son and I fished Grove yesterday evening. We couldn't get 'em to take a dark brown Pit Boss but they were loving a green Rage Craw - each Rage-rigged.
  6. The pond is posted no boating, swimming, etc.
  7. Nice fish ... but it would look even bigger if held in front of an Auburn hoodie. ?
  8. Check out tackletour.com (review archives). They have a detailed review of the St. Croix Avid MHM rod.
  9. Pics or it didn't happen Kent! JK -- nice catches and great details!!
  10. How about a pic of yours?
  11. No. There was record rainfall in the area recently and the Wolf River flooded the pond - and most other ponds near the river.
  12. Thank you for the helpful replies. I was able to handle a similiar Avid X spinning rod, and I liked the feel of the reel seat better on the X (the threads are covered) ... so the rod monkey has spoken!
  13. Looking for comparative opinions on the performance and feel of these two rods (Avid vs Avid X) from those who have fished both. Thanks!
  14. Wow! What a great first outing!! His fishing bar is now set pretty high! Now where did you say that pond was??? ?
  15. You'll be glad you did!!
  16. Well, as you can imagine (or see for yourself), many of our local fishing spots are flooded by the historic rainfall received the past few days. I stopped by Grove this morning, and water from the Wolf River was still flowing INTO the pond at a pretty good clip. Hopefully, we'll gain more fish there than we'll lose.
  17. Ditto. Apparently the big boys made up and are now playing together again!
  18. Hmmm. Did you try a spoon?
  19. What depth were they suspended?
  20. I'm comparing these two Avids for throwing lighter baits in the 1/8 to 1/4 oz range, but haven't put my hands on either rod yet. Appreciate any thoughts from users of these models as to which has advantages over the other. Thanks!
  21. If you're wondering what to throw around the local waters, the jig has been good to me lately. A Siebert's Dredge jig with a Sweet Craw skirt and Rage Bug trailer in Bama Craw is reeeeeeel purrrrrrrty!
  22. What I especially like about the Pit Boss is how buoyant it is which, as a jig trailer, allows it to sfand up nicely on a jig with an angled hook (e.g., Siebert's Dredge jig). It makes for a good imitation of a craw in the defensive position.
  23. For a nice mix of green with brown color, you might take a look at Bama Craw. Like Green Pumpkin, it's a very versatile color and matches well with brown and green jig skirts.
  24. Hmmm... you hate your Croix rods?? Send them to me and you'll feel better!! Curious as to what you don't like about them.
  25. I contacted Mike just this week and asked him what his more popular swim jig colors were. Bloody Shad Bluegill Sunfish Bream Chartreuse Shad Sapphire Shad Golden Shiner
