  1. I have to agree with you, I've been using the Strike King Shimee Stick in Pumpkin Black flake, and they can't resist it. I think also the pumpkin color makes it look like a real worm.
  2. What lake was this on? It's nice to fish out of a boat. A couple of weeks ago I had my first boat bass fishing experience, caught the most bass at one place, and my pb. Feels good to be able to get to spots you can't get to from shore.
  3. Been there man. Now my son can't stop talking about fishing, and he likes to rub it in.
  4. Plus,I ain't eating LMB or SMB I rather enjoy catching them and then releasing. Now if it was gut hooked our bleeding and no chance of surviving that's a different story or if it it's a Sea Bass...yum.
  5. That's fine, but not when they are undersize, and it's catch and release only because it wasn't bass season yet.
  6. And I've told my wife and her cousins that if I saw them catching bass and not throwing them back there would be repercussions. Like me rowing up to them and throwing them in the water.
  7. Good job P. I had a similar situation with my 3yr old son when we went to the lake in upstate NY. He was fishing with his mom and her cousin out of a canoe, and he caught like an 8" bass. He put it in his little cooler with ice, and when he got to shore he showed me, and I told him I was proud of him. As a dad and a loving the bass fisherman I had to tell him that we don't keep bass that we catch them take a picture and let them go. He wasn't too happy when I told him we had to release it. Now that little bass was on ice for like 10 ore 15 minutes and figured it was done for, but we took it out held it in the water, forced water over the gills, and wouldn't you know it, it started breathing and swam off. Later that day my son ran up to me and said he caught a big bass (2lbr), and that they took a picture, and he let it go. I told him that I was proud of him and that he did good.
  8. Then you realize that they are your best friends, but still weirdos. ;-)
  9. I've used the VMC 1/0 Octos with a Strike King Shimee stick with no issues. Even caught my personal best with it.
  10. I use the 1/0 size hooks from VMC, then I also have the 1/16 weedles whacky jigs from VMC, and the weedles whacky hooks from VMC. I only got the 1/16 whacky jigs because I fish from the bank where a majority of the time it's 5' or less. In IMO anything heavier would fall to fast for it being that shallow.
  11. "Are you on druuugs"..
  12. I regret not taking a better picture of the PB because it was a nice fish. I kind of took the picture angled down, and made the fish look smaller. Oh well I'm just glad I had a chance to catch it, and tell you guys about it.
  13. Hmm, a fluke stick.... COME ON!!! I'm just getting familiar with the whacky rig. I SHALT NOT GET TEMPTED BY THINE YE BAIT MONKEY!
  14. So I guess I'm a Professional employee.:-\
  15. What is the Blue Gills range? Are they this far North?
  16. I tell you the truth I haven't seen one Blue Gill yet. All I see are these Pumpkin Pies you guys are talking about. I'm getting hungry...
  17. Get your facts straight before you go posting on here, SIR! ;-)
  18. That solid chunker almost pulled him into the water. Luckily my wife was near him, and gave him a hand. Plus it was only about a foot and a half deep, so he would have survived.
  19. Thanks WIGuide. I tell you what being on a boat doesn't hurt either, even if it was a 12' Jon with oars. Gets me to thinking, an 16' moded v Jon, a small 10 hp motor and a decent trolling motor... sounds like a good starting point.
  20. But I wasn't the only one who had a good weekend.
  21. Caught several more during the outing, but these were the more significant ones of the weekend, where a light went off, and I was like I think I'm starting to get this..
  22. Thanks
  23. Since I started Bass fishing in August of last year when I caught my first bass I was hooked. This year has been killing me, my confidence was shot until this past weekend, which was my best by to date. It also gave me confidence in plastics, fishing structure, and What to use in certain conditions. Thanks to Bass Resource.com. The fam planed a trip to Minerva, New York which is about 20 miles North of Lake George. We stayed at a cabin only "camp ground" called Morning Side Cabins on Lake Minerva. It was nice and quite because school is still in and no summer vacation crowd. You can have your choice of canoe, kayak or 12ft Jon. I opted for the Jon so I can stand without worryng about falling in. Visibilaty was about 4 to maybe 5 ft. This is How it went. Caught these guys the first day on the water. The day was tough going, because a front moved in the night before, and cooled the temperatures down. Plus to make it worse it was pretty windy. Good thing we had an anchor. I went out by myself at 6 am, stayed out till 2 pm, and got skunked. That all changed when me, and the wife went back out around 4pm. The wind died down a little and the sun was more frequent. Caught the pike when the sun was out on a White spinner bait with chrome blades. Caught the bass when it got cloudy about 15 minutes later on a sexy shad color spinner bait with a gold blade. First good bass of the year, and I was pumped. Took the wife back to shore had some dinner and just relaxed for the next day. Saturday got up around 8 am and went out on the lake at 10 am. Was nice and warm and the wind died down drasticaly. Took the Jon out by myself beat the shore l with spinners and some swim baits, and nothing. To note this lake is littered with lay downs every where. Took out the whacky rig put on a green pumpkin black flake Senko some JJs, a wrist roll cast into some timbers and the line takes off to the left, set the hook and a nice one like similar to the above. Like an idiot I forgot my camera (Phone), and couldn't record it. Rowed back to the dock, and retrieved said device. Then decided to do some top water in some grass and pads... No dice. Came back in around 2p fished with my 3 yr old son some, and had dinner. Went back out around 5p, and thats when the magic happened. Started hitting things like this towards the middle of the lake with a weighted, glass beaded Trigged Watermelon red flake Space Monkey. Just roll cast it let it sink lift it a little wait for the pressure, and BOOM! And somebody didn't want to be left out... After this I decided to go here... This cove was littered with lay downs along the shore. Rowed up it, fished all the lay downs with the Space Monkey... Nothing. When I got to the end of said cove I decided to switch to the whacky rig with a Pumpkin Black Flake Strike King Shimee Stick, and just drift back down, fishing the same lay downs.... Nothing to brag about, Drifted to the next lay down, and.... My inner Dave Mercer took over, and "Look at that dude right there" My PB. Man was I pumped. My cheap spring lip grip scale said 2lbs, but I think it might of been more. I couldn't measure it so I put it next to my foot for comparison, but it still is an awkward angle. I couldn't get it right even with my boot. I'm a 9 1/2 and add a 1/2 inch for the tip of the boot. It was way bigger than the first one at the begining of the post. So I'm happy now. To note I also missed a few fish between that small bass and my PB with the whacky rig. Definetly gained alot of experince fishing this past weekend, and hopefully it carries over with more success. Thanks to everybodies input and help.
  24. This past weekend I was in up state New York at a cabin on Lake Minerva. It was windy coming from the North and had to scoot into coves just to be able to not get spun around while we were anchored in a jon (pics to come in the Fishing Report section). Luckily on of the neighbors in the cabin next to ours let us borrow the said Jon and trolling motor. Rowing would of sucked. So to make a long story longer I was rotating between 2 different spinner baits. When it was sunny I would throw the white with chrome blades and when the clouds rolled in I would switch to a sexy shad color with gold blades. That seemed to work ok. Fishing was kind of tough that day because of the cool front that rolled in. Sorry about the lengthy blah, blah, blah.
