  1. This is a lot of help thanks guys!
  2. Hey guys so I want to give braid for my deep diving crankbaits a shot. Usually I use 10-12lb Seaguar Red Label. What size braid should I use in order to get my crankbaits to the same depth as I was getting before? I saw that Sufix 832 30lb is .011inches in diameter, and that falls between 10 and 12lb Red Label. I wasnt sure if that should get to the same depth then as I was getting with fluorocarbon, or if braid has different properties than flurocarbon that should alter the depth although the diameters are the same. Thanks again!
  3. That is very helpful thanks so much!
  4. I just saw this is in the wrong section, sorry about that guys! Ok thanks!
  5. Hey guys so I am interested in getting started throwing deep diving crankbaits. I mean things like the 6th Sense 500dd and the 10xd. I am not really sure though what colors to use as I have not thrown a crank that deep before. I read in an article before that divers went down 20ft and watched blue back chartreuse sided crankbaits and reported that 20ft down they look to have a black back and a white body. That makes me wonder just how well something like sexy shad stands out down that deep. I live in NC so a lot of my water is not very clear due to red dirt banks. I usually have somewhere between 2-4ft of water clarity. 4ft maybe being a bit generous. Thanks for the help!
  6. Awesome thanks!!
  7. Hey guys so I am looking to replace some treble hooks of mine that have become a bit dull. I dont really know the difference between ewg and round bend trebles though. These hooks will be going on a 5xd and a DD22. Which should I get, and what are the pros and cons of the two different styles? Thanks!
  8. Hey guys so I need some help. For the past year I have really been trying to get better with these baits. I have thrown different weights, and sizes. I have played with different trailers. I have also tried different blades on the spinnerbaits. For retrieves I have tried burning them, slow rolling them, crashing them into laydowns, and so on. I just can not get bit with these baits. Any ideas what I should try?
  9. Hi guys, My Dad and I are coming up to SML next Thursday and fishing thru Saturday. We will be fishing for largemouth and hopefully some smallmouth. We live in NC and fish every weekend. Our water color is very stained. We are both pretty versatile anglers and are comfortable fishing plastics, jigs and moving baits. We are staying at the bridge but do not have an issue with running the lake to catch fish. Can you guys give us some good ideas as to what baits are hot right now and the depth or type of water we should be looking for? Thanks guys!
  10. Hey guys so I have recently picked up a *** Crazy Blitz. I really like it other than it comes up very fast. I was wondering what I could do to make it raise up a little slower? Any ideas? Thanks!
  11. Ok thanks guys!
  12. Hey guys so is it ok to leave an Elaztech bait on a hook for a while? I know other plastics will rust a hook, is that also a possibility with Elaztech? Also I know you are not supposed to dip Elaztech in stuff like Spike it or JJ's, but can you spray scent on it? Thanks!
  13. Last year I decided to really try to learn how to fish a squarebill, the first several outings were filled with hang ups. I have heard other people say to work the bait slower through cover will help, and I'm sure that does work. However, for me I have better luck when I am reeling it fast. If I go slow I seem to get hung up a lot more. I throw my squarebills on a 6:3.1 ratio and I burn them into cover. Sometimes when I hit something I stop and pause, other times I just keep reeling. It seems different ways work better different days. I maybe way off here but I think burning the crank will get it hung up less because the faster speed helps it hit harder and deflect farther away from the cover. Kind of like a bouncy ball. If it hits something going slowly then it just bounces off of it a little ways, but if you throw it hard at the same thing it will bounce farther away. Squarebills are really really great tools though so keep working at it!
  14. Ok thanks guys!
  15. Hey guys so I am interested in trying out the ned rig. I have two questions. For just starting out with it what weight would you suggest as a good all around weight? Also is it primarily a clear water technique? I was wanting to use the Zman TRD with it. On a good day I have 2-3ft of visibility. I would say average days are closer to 1-2ft. Thanks!
  16. Hey guys so I have been watching the project z webisodes, and I have become interested in some of the different z-man plastics. What are your feelings on elaztech? How is the action of baits made from this material? What are some pros and cons? Thanks!
  17. Hey guys I was just having a talk with dad and we were talking about how effective a green pumpkin trick worm is 15-20ft deep (deep for most lakes around me) if on the surface you only have 2-3 ft of visibility? I know fish can see much better underwater than we can, but do you think that deep in that dirty of water green pumpkin on a bait that does not put out lots of vibration is an effective color?
  18. I have only fished some of their crankbaits and a topwater bait but I have been very happy with those baits. Their pistol minnow is one of my favorite topwater baits I have used.
  19. Hey guys so my first question is do you turn off your depth finders when you are fishing shallow water? I have heard some people say the noise from the transducer may bother the fish. My second question is if I drive into a cove by my outboard looking for fish and start seeing them on side scan. Am I safe to start fishing for them right away or should I wait a bit and come back? I am thinking about depths around shallower than 10ft. Past that I question if the noise of my outboard would bother the fish, but shallower I am not sure.
  20. Crap I forgot to list that. We actually did try a jig as well haha. I didnt try different trailers though. I was using the missle flip jig with a baby dbomb on the back.
  21. Sorry, what do you mean if you believe in water temperature?
  22. Hey guys so Im in need of some advice. I went fishing on a lake today that 8 days ago was around 55-59*f. Today at 7:30am the water was 64. By the end of the day it was mid 70's. Im not sure why it is warming up so fast, last year it was much slower at warming up. Early on it was pretty overcast but ended up getting pretty sunny by the end of the day. We had times with no wind and then some pretty stiff winds at other times. We had 2-4ft of visibility. Anyways I fished for about 10 hours. We caught 10 bass, but the biggest was maybe 1.5lb at the most. The bites were pretty spread out. We had some hit as shallow as 1-2 ft and others hit closer to 10 ft. This lake has some 50ft deep places but mostly deep is 15ft-30ft. I also pulled out and fished some points trying to find fish that were still working towards flats, but could not get bit doing that. All in all I covered water from 1ft to 17ft. I saw plenty of larger fish cruising around slowly in shallow water on the banks, but could not get anything of size to bite. Between me and dad we tried spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, squarebills, lipless, t-rig, c-rig, weightless senko, buzzbait, spook, and mid-diving cranks. I am wondering what we should have done to try to get on some bigger fish? In those conditions what would you try? What do you do if you see shallow fish roaming around that dont seem to want to bite or chase? Can the water temp just come up to quickly and mess with the fish?
  23. Awesome thanks guys for all the help!
  24. Hey guys I have seen some people talking about fishing the northwest parts of a lake in the spring. What about a the northwest part of a lake makes it a better place to target this time of year? Thanks guys!
  25. We have one close to me. I like it a lot because it has some tackle that I actually dont see at BPS. My favorite thing about the store though is it has the best rod and reel selection of any store I have been in, that is including BPS.
