  1. Hey guys so I have a lot of crankbaits that are a few years old and still have stock hooks on them. They are rapala DT 6 and 10, Berkley diggers in the shallow and medium depth sizing, as well as some Norman DD22's. I fish for fun and not tournaments, but I am ok with putting some money into this so that I know I have some quality hooks. What would you recommend? Thanks!
  2. Hey guys I was wondering if you have experience with these cranks and if so what your opinion is. Thanks!
  3. I will say that my dad has the medium spinning rod from this brand and it is very nice. I just have not handled the ml and i wasnt sure if it was the right feel for this technique. I am leaning towards it though Thanks for all the responses guys! I appreciate it
  4. Ok thanks guys! Do you by chance have any experience with this rod? I was thinking about picking it up for the technique as my other spinning is not light enough. What length do you like for this? This is 6'10 and I wasnt sure if I should get a longer one or this would work? https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071JTZN1R?th=1&psc=1&camp=1789&creative=9325&_encoding=UTF8&tag=jgweiss2005-20
  5. Hey guys I want to get into throwing the Ned rig. What would a good starting weight be to get going with this technique? I mostly large mouth fish but once ot twice a year I get to go for smallies. 20ft is pretty much the deepest I ever fish. I read a lot of people using 1/5 online. Of course if the wind is up ill need heavier, but if we say on a very low wind day what weight would you pick for 10-20ft?
  6. Thanks I appreciate that!
  7. Thanks guys for the replies! I have not seen any beds at all yet. The water I fish is pretty dingy so it can be hard to sight fish, but as much water as I covered the last 2 weeks I believe if they were bedding I would have seen at least a few beds by now.
  8. Hey guys so I am getting frustrated. I have noticed a trend of mine over the past few years. I can typically catch good fish when the water is in the 50's. However as the water continues to warm and hits the 60's I start to struggle a lot, and at best will have a lot of smaller fish but struggle to get any size. Typically in the 50's I am catching on jigs, spinnerbaits, lipless, the normal things for this time of year. Then when the water gets a little warmer I cannot buy a bite in the same places I was catching before, nor in places similar. Typically these places are on banks going back into shallow coves and flats, places I would think they are trying to spawn in eventually. What advice do you have for fishing when the water is warming up this time of year? Thanks!
  9. Thanks guys Im going to get the 735 for sure. I appreciate it!
  10. Hey guys so I am thinking about picking up a Dobyns Fury rod for throwing football jigs, heavy texas rigs, and maybe carolina rigs. Most weights would be 1/2 plus the plastic. I have read that dobyns power ratings differ a lot from other brands power ratings. Would I want a MH or H for this? I was looking at the 7'6 MH but it says it goes up to 2oz. That seems like over kill possibly, but I do really like that length. Would that rod be a good fit for this? Ill be fishing 10-25ft deep most times. Thanks!
  11. Ive got one but I have not fished it a lot. So only downside I have noticed is I have to run it slowly. If I give it any speed it lifts up on one side and one plopper is out of the water. When it is coming through the water the right way though it looks and sounds great
  12. I really am loving my shimano reels lately. I know a lot of people fall into almost fanboyism so I am trying to avoid this post sounding like that. Between my dad and myself, I have seen 3-4 different tatulas see extended use in my boat. 2 of them are still going strong and they do have a great breaking system. However the other 2 seem to require a lot more maintenance than any other reels I have used. They quickly start feeling gritty and are very noisy on the retrieve. So what I will say is that the Tatulas that are still working are really great reels, but the other ones cause me to be a bit iffy on them.
  13. Hey guys so I went to the lake today and almost every single fish I found was suspending. I know that things like swimbaits and spinnerbaits can be really good for suspending fish. So I was hoping I could get some direction in what weights work well for different depths. For a swimbait, I typically throw 4.5-5.5 inch Keitech swing impact FAT. Today for example the fish were 10 to 15ft deep. I know you reel a swimbait slowly, but I dont want a weight that I have to barely turn the handle to keep it down so what would you suggest? For a spinnerbait in this situation, what weight would you have thrown? I will typically be throwing double willow blades. Also other than getting a bite with counting it down, what are some ways I can have a better understanding of how deep my bait is going when I am keeping it off the bottom like in today's situation? thanks so much!
  14. my mistake thanks for clarifying I was thinking it was magnesium. I will likely be picking one up shortly then thanks!
  15. Hey guys so I was thinking about picking up a Chronarch, but I was not sure exactly what the difference between that reel and the Curado I is. I know it is much lighter due to the magnesium frame, but is that it or is there anything else different between the two? thanks!
  16. Thanks guys for all the replies!
  17. Hey guys so I am needing to get some new line for cranking. Typically I use 10lb Seaguar Invisx, but I was thinking about trying Yozuri Hybrid out. I know 10lb hybrid is a lot larger than 10lb Seaguar. Would that hinder the depth of the crank that much? I was thinking about going down to 8lb hybrid since it supposedly has a higher breaking strength than what it says it does. Would that work to allow my cranks to get to the same depth they were getting with the fluorocarbon without being easy to break line?
  18. Thanks guys for the replies. I do like Spro I have had some good days on the little john and the md. I will give the rockcrawler a shot most likely. Has anyone else tried out the Berkleys? I am really liking the looks of them
  19. I want a crank that I can fish fast or slow and deflects well. Getting down fast is important, but I would like them to float back up to help avoid hang ups. I have fished the DT's before but didn't catch much on them. Honestly I figured I just didnt give them a fair shot and switched away from them to quickly. I saw the Deep Little N's only weight 3/8oz so I was a bit concerned about how well they cast.
  20. Hey guys so I have been trying to find a new line of cranks to try out. Right now my crankbait box is filled with tons of different cranks from different brands and I would like a little more uniformity. It can get confusing trying to remember depths and different things like that with all the different ones. So I am interested in a few different ones and I wanted to see what everyone's opinions are on them. So I am looking at the Berkley Diggers, Rapala DT, Norman Deep Little N's, and the 6th Sense 250MD. I am looking for cranks in the 6-10ft range. I liked the looks of all of these, I just would like to hear from people that have used these different ones to see what they thought about them. Thanks so much!
  21. About what temperature do you guys usually consider the spawn to be finished at? I know they are not all at once, but what temperature seems to be when you start fishing for post spawners the most?
  22. This is a lot of help thanks guys!
  23. Hey guys so far when I clean my reels I just open them up wipe off old lube or oil and then put new lube and oil on. I would like to start flushing my bearings. What would you recommend for soaking the bearings in? Also what oil should I put on the bearings to get the best performance? Thanks!
  24. Hey guys so I need to pick up a few reels in the next few weeks. I had a curado before and returned it, but now I have seen a few different posts say that Shimano reels often need to be cleaned and relubed when they first come in to make them perform the best. So I want to give it another shot. I am having trouble figuring out the difference between these two reels. I think it is just body material and one of the bearings is different? Is that correct?
